For those of you that are interested to hear what the ITPA is all about,
this is what Sheila Turner (Owner of TPA-UK) has to say:

"Honestly can't take on a thing at the moment because in the background,
a group of 7 of us (including Dr. Thierry Hertoghe) are working flat out
in creating an International Thyroid Patient Association (ITPA) which is
long overdue. We are a team from different countries. This is why I am
so desperate to get some help from any of our members who have some
spare time to download the contact details of all thyroid organisations,
associations, Websites that recommend a combination of T4/T3 or natural
thyroid extract. If you can do a little bit, please let me know. This is
not an onerous task if a few of us do just a little bit, but it IS an
onerous task if left to one person only. Such an association will be for
your benefit as well as the millions of hypothyroid sufferers throughout
the world.
Luv - Sheila"

"The MAIN criteria are that each and every thyroid organisation,
group, association, individual etc we use to start to make up
an 'International Thyroid Patient Association' MUST be 'friendly'
i.e. working towards the same goals as TPA-UK in promoting the use of
synthetic T3 and/or natural thyroid extract (Armour Thyroid) which
was the drug of choice prior to synthetic thyroxine (T4) now used in
mainstream medicine, and for these to be prescribed as a matter of
course for those patients who do not do well on T4 only. We are NOT
ruling out thyroxine as treatment for some sufferers if that works
for them. The majority of thyroid associations around the world go
along with the British/American/Australian organisations etc and
therefore, we will NOT be asking them to become members. They do not
normally recommend a combination of hormones. Who knows, if one day
the Thyroid Patient Association works, they might join us. This is
what this association (ITPA) will be all about.
Initially, we need to look at ALL thyroid websites very closely in
order to understand what they are recommending. We need to find their
contact details (hopefully this will be an email address) so that we
can send out an introductory letter asking if they would like to add
their name/organisation/group to "The International Thyroid Patient
Association" setting out roughly the aims of this ITPA. It is going
to take some time, but if there are enough of us working together,
we will get there.
We need to contact people around the globe to find out how much
interest there is. The immediate problem is that of language. We need
somebody who has language skills, and if not on the group, we may
need to contact language schools, where we could send links of
thyroid websites to find out whether any of them fit our criteria. We
don't want to throw out any websites simply because we don't speak
their language. If anybody has any contacts or ideas about this
latter problem, please let me know.
Luv - Sheila"
