wow. Well the therapy is definitely out of the question for me then! By
the end of this year I will have 5 kids all under age 10 and there'd be no
way I could stay away from them like that.

I too had thyroid cancer, mine was removed in March 2002. I also had
RAI ablation therapy.

Have you had any RAI therapy at all? Have you been told yet how they
are going to do this? I was in a lead lined room in solitary
confinement in the basement of a hospital for 3 days. The staff were
very friendly and wonderful. I then had to spend 2 weeks at home,
keeping at least 6 feet away from my son (who was 5 at the time).

We had to wash down any metal door handles, and swill out the shower
and toilet at least twice after I used them. I slept in a portable
bed in a seperate room from my husband too. I was not allowed to
sleep next to him.

These are some of the many precautions I had to take after receiving
the radiation.

You must be finding things extremely exhausting with a 9 and 5 year
old.

I know when I stopped taking my thyroid meds prior to the RAI therapy
I became very slow thinking, and could not even drive. Going on
the "Low Iodine Diet" helped me tremendously, it not only helped me
to depelete my system of iodine, it helped prevent me from putting on
lots of wieght while I was not on thyroid meds.

Have you any idea when you will be going for treatment, or are you
still in the planning stages?

I'm English by the way, mother of two, (girl - 24) and (boy - now 9)
moved to New Hampshire 5 years ago and LOVE it here :)
