Hi my name is Jessica and I am a 29 year old stay at home mom to 4 and am
expecting #5 in November. I was dx'd with hyperthyroidism in December 03
during my last pregnancy, had a echo and an ultrasound of the thyroid in
which they found several large nodules and goiter. I was not put on any
meds at the time because the doctor said that there was more risk to the
pregnancy with the meds than without. He also later told me that I would
need surgery, but that he wouldn't do it because then he loses a patient by
me not having to come back to him as often! Needless to say, I never went
back to him. I did see another endo after the delivery of my son to have my
levels checked again to make sure it wasn't gestational, and it wasn't.
However, my insurance ended and I wasn't able to go back for treatment.

I've always been a thin person, I am 6' tall and my average weight is around
120 but I go through spurts of rapid weight loss where i've even gotten down
to around 90. I had my levels tested last month and my TSH was .006, Free
T3 was 6.41, and free T4 was 1.97. The only thing that I have to really
compare these numbers too is the reference range that my labs say the levels
should be, which is .4 - 5.4 for the TSH, 2.57 - 4.43 for the free T3, and
62 - 1.7 for the free T4. I go in to see the endocrinologist on the 25th
of this month, in which I am assuming he will want another echo and u/s of
the thyroid. My heartbeat has been very fast lately.

Anyway, I would love to hear from other people that have hyperthyroidism and
learn about what kind of treatments you went through, what your numbers were
like.............has anyone been pregnant while having this condition and
been allowed treatment for it?

oh p.s., not sure what the cause of mine was but they say it wasn't Grave's
disease.

Jessica
