Hi ME,
We are about the same, I had my thyroidectomy in Mar 2002, and I too
suffered from similar symptoms to you. The first thing I did after
my heart 'felt funny' too was to stop drinking caffiene - it was
amazing how quickly I felt better!
There appeared to be no help for my dry hair and skin either until I
started taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules daily. Somehow they
help produce the necessary oils to keep my skin from drying out too
much. (Which then of course helps with the hair!)
Since my thyroidectomy I have steadily put on several pounds a year.
I try to keep to a healthy diet, but the pizza and chocolate wins out
every now and then.
My biggest downfall is I do not excersise. I wish was a much fitter
person, who could jog a few miles a day and eat what I wanted, but I
am not. I just try to take the stairs when I can, and walk when I
can.
The doctor's can only do so much for us. If they see our TSH is
within acceptable perameters then they can not do anything else. It
is up to us to help ourselves.
How has the Cytomel helped? I tend to get extremely tired around
7:30pm - 8:00pm and don't have much energy anyway. Then sometimes
even though I am tired I will be awake for the whole night.
Go figure!! It's like a mad roundabout, and it doesn't matter in
which direction you go in, it still won't settle down.
I am wondering if Cytomel may help me.
Take care, good luck with your move.
Debbie
