I was diagnosed about 2 years ago with hyperthyroidism. Even though I didn't
have a cyst on my thyroid I did experience that choking sensation. It was
like someone had their hands around my throat 24/7. This made me very
nervous along with my heart palpitations and everything else. I mentioned it
to the nurse because I was waiting for my initial visit to the Endo. Dr.
(you know standard 3 month wait). She said as long as you don't have
difficultly swallowing these are "normal" symptoms due to the swollen
thyroid. After I was on my thyroid medicine for some time, all of my
symptoms decreased and eventually disappeared. However, after reading about
your symptoms I think they sound serious; choking, gagging and a cyst I
would demand to see the doctor again. What are they exactly waiting for the
cyst to do- - shrink or get so large you can't breathe?

Hello, I was dxed with Hyperthyroidism in August or September due to my
heart literally flipping out on me. I have had a scan and ultrasound
and blood work. I have a cyst on my thyroid and right now my doctor
wants to do a wait and see approach. Lately though I have been coughing
like crazy and I feel like I have something stuck in my throat. I also
have a hard time swallowing pills and sometimes choke on my food. When
I lay on sides (my prefer sleeping style) I feel like I am choking or
gagging. When I am on my back, I just feel like I have something in my
throat. Could this be from the cyst? Should I see the doctor again? I
am not sure if it is the cyst doing this or perhaps I have sinus
draining or something. Any input would be appreciated.
