Hi Wanda,
Armour is a hormone replacement drug that is a mixture of T4 & T3.
T4 is levothyroxine, (Synthroid, Levoxyl etc) the hormone replacement
given to us all with thyroid problems. Taking T4 alone is OK for most
people, and as far as I know all we need, because our body can make T3
from T4.
T3 (brand name Cytomel) was given to me by my doctor, but only when I
had to stop taking my T4 prior to a scan. T3 would give me the energy
boost I needed to keep going each day, and helped prevent a lot of hypo-
thyroid symptoms.
My thyroid was removed 4 years ago, and I have taken cytomel twice only.
Armour as I have already said is a combination of both T4 and T3.
I am definately with you on the weight gain too, and understand
completely, I was told that I should expect to put on at least 40lbs
after my thyroid was removed, but I followed the 'LID' (Low Idoine
Diet) for 8 weeks, this was extremely hard for me, but I did it and it
meant I did not put on any weight at all (honestly!).
How long ago did you have your thyroidectomy? Are you taking any kind
of thryoid hormone now?
You have found a good group here, there are lots of members who have
gone through what you are going through.
