Hi all,
It's been a while since I have read my emails. I had a total thyroidectomy on
Oct. 18th. I would totally get a second opinion. After 6 years of my doctors
feeling my swollen neck and ordering blood test they NEVER came back with
abnormal blood test results. It was not until I demanded more tests after my 6
week OB checkup, because I could clearly see that my neck was twice the size. I
had the ultrasound and it showed that I had multinodulars and a goiter. My
blood tests were normal, but I had been experiencing symptoms for both hypo and
hyper over six years [i have had 3 kids during this time so i attributed it to
pregnancy].
I was nervous about the surgery [thank God I found this group to ease my
worries] because it was the easy part. My surgeon said that the thyroid was so
large that it started to wrap around my trachea. The ultrasound did not reveal
any of this. So, I'm just saying that the blood work and the test do not show
everything. I can't beleive that you had yours removed and you are not on
medicine. My doctor was an excellent surgeon. I had tons of quesitons when I
went back for my post op visit. One of the questions was if you could develop
hypo or hyper symptoms after your thyroid had been removed. He said yes you can
if your medicine is not the proper dosage. I am presently on synthroid .175 and
I beleive that if I stopped taking it for the next 3 mos. my blood test would
again show no abnormality!

Hi!! I'm new to this board and am I ever glad I found it. I had my
thyroid surically removed almost 4 years ago. Since then, I have had
the good fortune of not having to be medicated. Recently though, I
have noticed several of the symptoms of hypothyriodism creeping in.
I thought it was just the stress of buying a house, getting married
and turning 30 all in a matter of 2 weeks. So when I went to my doc
last week for the flu I asked if it was time to go see the vampires
again (that's what I like to call the blood work). I had the TSH
test AGAIN and it came back in the normal ranges. But I still have
90% of they symptoms. Am I crazy? Should I fight with my doc and
get a second opion? What do you all think????
