I just wanted you to know that the 10% off all hairsticks not listed on the sale page, and the $12 and $15 pairs (on the Summer Sale page) will go off sale Monday night. So if you are interested in getting in on the savings right now, this is your last day.
Thanks for all of you who have placed orders. I do hope you will enjoy your sticks!
Summer greetings to you! Ok... it's still spring according to the calendar, but summer is right around the corner! So, we have decided to launch a big summer sale on hairsticks! Get them now while they are available!
For those of you who read this, I will also take 10% off all other sticks not listed on the sales page if you mention the summer sale in your email to me about your order.
Sale sticks are being sold on 6 inch, straight sticks only. If you want a different length, there will be an additional fee.
The pairs are being sold for $15 and $12 a pair. If you only like to wear singles, I will give you the same deal for singles (regular singles, not semi-precious) 2 for $15 or 2 for $12 depending on your choices. So just email me about any singles you might want.
Spread the word to your hairstick loving friends! Get these bargains while you can!!
I hope that you are enjoying this wonderful Christmas season! Now that winter is here, we have some tips that might help make your hair care more effective. In many ways, winter hair care needs are very similar to summer hair care needs. Extra conditioning and oil treatments work great both for stressed summer hair that has been in sun and pool a lot, but also for winter hair which is often dry due to dry heating in homes and businesses that create a dry atmosphere. Try to do REGULAR deep conditioning and oiling treatments, like once a week for really dry hair, and once every 2 weeks for regular hair.
Try wearing hats! You don't have to wear a ski hat to get your head covered. There are lovely, satin-lined hats out there that serve not only as protection, but style as well! They don't have to be expensive either. Check K-mart and Wal-mart out. My favorite winter hat came from K-mart. I got it on clearance for $1.00 and it's satin lined! You don't have to wear an updo, but when you are out in bitter weather, wrap your hair up and tuck it in your hat. When you pull off your hat, your hair can tumble down. You might even get some extra body out of it. If you just can't bear to wrap your hair up, be sure to keep your hair inside your jacket! Hair does not like freezing weather! If your jacket is rough, place a silk/satin/slippery scarf over the nape area and let it fall down the length of your hair, then slip your jacket/coat on. The scarf tipwill hang by your collar, so pick something that matches your coat.
You might need to change products as well. Just because something worked in the summer or fall, doesn't mean it will be as effective in the winter. You may need a heavier conditioner than you might currently be using. Can't afford a big change? Add some oil to your conditioner bottle. Start with 1 Tablespoon and see if that makes enough difference. Depending on your hair you can add up to 1/4 cup per bottle. I add even more to mine. It's fantastic! I use Grapeseed Oil, but you might want to try Jojoba, Olive Oil, or any good vegetable oil. You can even add oil to your shampoo to help boost it's gentleness and moisturizing capabilities. Since I mostly use shampoo on my scalp only, I stick with adding it to the conditioner, but if you use it on your length, consider adding a touch of oil there too.
If your home is dry, and many are in winter, use a humidifier. You don't have to be sick to use one! Turn it on and let it add moisture to your hair while you go about regular, daily life.
Continue to drink water! Lots of us want to sip on hot drinks, but you can't forget water consumption. Water hydrates our entire body. Not only is it good for our organs and cleansing, but it keeps hair healthy and skin glowing! If you are going to sip on hot drinks, and we know we are, go for herbal teas that do not contain caffeine! Caffeine dehydrates you. If you do drink caffeine, drink an extra glass of water to make up for it!
Do you take supplements? You might want to try adding Flaxseed Oil, Borage Oil, Evening Primrose or Fish oils into your supplement routine. If you already take them, you might want to increase them. This will help with the dryness in your skin and hair. To help you understand oils a bit more...
Omega-3 and Omega-6 are the two main oil categories, and you want both.
Omega-6 includes linoleic and gamma-linolenic and are found unsaturated vegetable oils like...borage, grapeseed, primrose, sesame and soybean oils. Look for a supplement that gives you around 240 mg of GLA per dose. This is not the mgs in the gel cap or serving of the oil you are taking, but rather the dose of GLA's in that serving. Please not if you have or have had breast cancer or are at high risk of getting it, avoid Evening Primrose Oil and choose another from the list. Evening Primrose can effect your hormone balance, which is beneficial in most women, but not those with breast caner risks.
Omega-3's include alpha-linolenic and eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA) and are found in fish oils, and certain vegetable oils like... canola, flaxseed, and walnut oil.
The idea is to get a balance from both types of oil, so be sure to take an oil from each list, or find one that mixes the two types together. If you don't like to take oil supplements be sure to choose food groups that contain these oils. Munch on walnuts and grind up some flaxseeds. Eat sesame seeds and fresh fish.
Another supplement I want to mention to you is Vitamin E. This is also great for hair and skin with dryness problems. Start with 400 IU and work up to 800 IU if needed. There are various forms of Vitamin E, but the alpha-tocopherol form is the most potent form, so read your labels. If you take other supplements, make sure you have some zinc in there. Vitamin E likes zinc... it helps it to work better for you. Zinc is another supplement associated with help for dry skin. You can take up to 50 mg of zinc, but no more than that (although you may not need that much... depends on how great your problem is). The zinc lozenges are a good way of getting your zinc since it is better absorbed. Be sure to take it when you have eaten something, as zinc on an empty stomach can cause stomach upset.
Now... finally... the news you've been waiting for! We are having a hairstick Christmas time give away! Please click on the below link and follow the instructions there to participate! Winners will be chosen on Monday!
We hope this will be a wonderful time of reflection for you on the true meaning of Christmas, and a beautiful time of sharing and caring with those around you!

Just wanted to let you know that we have revamped our hairstick pages. We have some new options for you! I hope that this will make your hairstick shopping experience even better!
Just wanted to let you know that we have started placing ads on our discussion boards for a fee of just $1.00 a day (2 week minimum). With an average of 5000 page view a day, it's a great way to let others know about your products! If you are interested in placing an ad, just email me for more information!
Our first ad was placed by Ida of Chagrin Valley Soap and Craft! Her products are incredible! We've even added an interview with Ida for your view pleasure! Be sure to stop by and read it! http://longhairloom.com/chagrinvalley.html After reading the article, be sure to visit any of our discussion board pages to see Ida's ad. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/235232 There is a special discount noted there, so be sure to place your order by Sunday and tell her you saw it on the Loom! Her ad will expire this Sunday, so don't miss out!
Just wanted to let you know that we have been working on renewing the website. Unfortunately, the new company we are working with has been very slow with the transfer. This means that if they do not complete it by the end of Saturday, that the website will be down until they do. This may only be for just a day or so. I tried to go ahead and renew it with the company we currently work with, but because the other company already started the process, I no longer have that option. So... please note that if you need to visit the home page, and you can't bring up http://www.longhairloom.com you can then try: http://www.lhl.9foxes.com All of the pages will work from this webaddress temporarily. All email sent to Fox@... may also be rejected until this transfer goes through. If you need to reach me, you may write to: thelonghairloom@.... Hopefully, everything will continue to run properly, but if not... at least you know what is going on! Thanks for your patience!
Skeeter thought it would be fun to have another contest so she is donating some prizes for this!
1st Place will have their choice of: A- A blue velvet scrunchie with a 1/4 oz sample of body souffle or B- a 4 oz Glad container of souffle'. 2nd place will get the remaining prize.
Here's how the contest works! I have some new sticks I will be adding to the Loom. The sticks are made of exotic hardwoods, Corian and Aquapearl. All of the sticks are not straight! This allows the sticks to hold better in the hair, and besides that they are just too cool! I have made up a couple of pair and will show one here. This is a small pair made up of Walnut wood and Jasper beads. The contest is to find a cute name for the style of sticks. Longlocks currently sales sticks like this and calls them Spiral Sticks, so I don't think we can really use that. Even if we decide not to use the names given in the contest, the best 2 names, as will be decided by the public, will be considered the winners!
The rules: email me at Fox@... with the name you think this style of stick should be called. We are not talking names like "Jasper's Dream" I mean a name for the style of the stick, like "Spiral sticks". The deadline will be next midnight on Thursday. I will then put up a votelet and we can vote on the names given. This way no one will know who gave what name and the voting will be based on name alone, not because of who picked it! You can go see a picture of the sticks here: http://tinyurl.com/69sae
It has been a great start to a New Year! The latest news... no more ads on the discussion boards!!! http://www.network54.com/Forum/235232 The pop up ads were really annoying to many visitors and caused some problems. You will be happy to know the pop ups are gone! We hope to offer inexpensive ad space (only one banner ad for any 2 week time period) on the Loom discussion board pages. If you are interested, please email me at Fox@... I would be happy to share more with you.

It has been a H-O-T summer so far this year, and I hope you've taken care of your hair under these intense temperatures! A few quick and easy tips to remember is:
1- Cover up! If you are going to be out in the sun for extended amounts of time, cover that head of yours. You can use a scarf, hat, cap, or pull out the umbrella! Create your own shade!
2- Just can't make yourself cover up? Well, there are styling products out there with SPF in them to help protect hair from the sun's damaging rays. Spritz some in or slather some on before heading out!
3- If you are going to be swimming, wet your hair first, then apply your favorite conditioner. If you want some extra protection, try topping that off with just a bit of oil or Shea Butter. Shea Butter has a small amount of natural SPF protection, and Monoi Oil, also has versions with SPF in them! After swimming, be sure to immediately rinse out your hair to free it of chlorine or salt water. Wash and condition as usually.
4- If your ends are drying out, try wetting your length before wrapping your hair up into a bun or twist. The wrapping type of updo, helps to lock in that moisture, keeping your hair hydrated longer!
5- Drink more water! Most of us need more water than we take in. Soda, tea, and other sweetened or caffienated drinks don't count! Be sure to drink your 8- 8oz glasses of water each day! And while you're at it, if you use a SPF lotion on your skin every day, you might want to supplement your diet with some extra Vitamin D. You need the sun in order to help produce Vitamin D in your body, so if you're blocking those sun's ray, chances are you can become deficient in Vitamin D, as some studies are now showing. You need Vitamin D in order to help your body absorb Calcium!

Are you thankful for all the things you have? November puts us in a mindset of thinking of all the things we have to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, so I want to wish each of you a very wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I am so thankful for all of you who contribute to the support of the Loom, through your posts, emails, and even for those who just sit back quietly and read!
So many of us have the "grass is always greener" syndrome when it comes to our own hair. If we have curls, we admire the fall of straight hair! If we have straight hair we long for curls! While there are certainly ways to create a different look, constant use of certain products like heated styling tools, perms, and straighteners can cause long term damage. What is important for each of us, is that we learn to love our own hair, just the way it is. Try to think of the positive aspects of your own hair, and learn to really appreciate it! It doesn't mean that you'll stop admiring hair of another type, but that you will also appreciate what you do have!
Be sure to read our two new articles: "CWC: A hair care method." This is a great article for those new to CWC, and still a great read for those of us who use it regularly!
You will also find a brand new interview at the top of the library list. An "Interview with henna expert, Maureen Jones of Everyday Mehndi." Maureen Jones is an extremely intelligent lady that you will love learning from. This information packed interview tells you all you need to know if you've ever entertained the idea of using henna on your hair. What is henna? Can I use henna on color treated hair? Is Black Henna safe? These questions and more are answered in our wonderful interview with Maureen. Maureen also is offering a discount for those who order henna from her site after reading the article. The Long Hair Loom special discount code is also found in this library article.
We have some new hair styles listed in the Styling Station. Be sure to check out our new styles which include "The Basic Cinnamon Bun," Hoshi's Star Trek Enterprise style, The Chinese Bun, and some cute party styles like, "Cat Ears and Spider Legs." If you missed seeing the Draped Braid and French Twirl, be sure to take a peek!
Our hearts and prayers go out to some of the ladies on our board.
To Skeeter, who was so sick with a virus that she ended up having to go to the hospital. We hope you continue to get stronger each day. We miss you when you are away!
To Grace, who's home burned to the ground in the terribly devastating California fires. We are so thankful that above all else, you and your family were spared. Let us know if we can be of any help to you!
To Balleryna: My prayers are with you through your medical treatment and continued care. I hope you will be encouraged daily, simply by knowing that so many care.
Best wishes to Anne and Gold Lady who started new hair accessory businesses! Congratulations ladies! Their links will soon be added to the library links section.
Thanks again to each of you, for making the Loom such a special place. I thank the Lord for giving me the opportunity to get to know you. For you I am truly thankful! If I can be of any help to you, please let me know!

Hello again! I just wanted to let you know that our newest interview is in the Library. I was able to interview Jennifer Bahney of Longhairlovers! Jennifer has inspired me for years. It was a real treat to be able to get her thoughts on the growing out process, long hair in the mainstream, growing out tips, and tips for women who are caring for their hair while pregnant. Jennifer is expecting her first baby! Congratulations Jennifer!
Jennifer was also kind enough to mention our site on her opening page! Thanks Jennifer!
Jen W., posted instructions to a gorgeous rope bun on the Styling Station. Even if you don't like to wear your hair up, you HAVE to see her hair in this gorgeous style!
Greetings! I hope this summer is going well for you!
Remember to protect your hair if you're going to be out in the hot summer sun for extended periods of time! Sun exposure can lead to dry ends and color loss. Hats, scarves, umbrellas and sunscreen, are all good and helpful ways to protect your hair from the sun.
If you're going to be spending time on the beach, apply a good amount of your favorite conditioner first, then braid or wrap into a bun. The heat from the sun will help the conditioner to penetrate better, giving you a "deep conditioning treatment" while you get to enjoy the ocean waves! Pre-conditioning your hair will also help to protect it should you get in a pool.
We have a couple of new articles in the library thanks to Loom contributor, Equestrian! Everyone on the Loom thanks you for your hard work, EQ!
Be sure to look for her articles, How Do I Oil My Hair? And Trimming & Dusting, How Often & How Much? Be sure to visit the Library to see these great articles. They are at the top of the article list! http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/246853
New articles and interviews are coming soon! Be sure to look for my interview with Jennifer Bahney of Longhairlovers! Jennifer has inspired me so much since I started my quest for longer lengths. She has some interesting information to share with us, so... stay tuned!
We also have another contest coming up.... the winners will be receiving some of Lisa Janey's satin scrunchies. An interview with LJ is also in the works! We hope to launch the contest and her interview at the same time. The contest will be open to posters on the Loom.
If you are a lurker, please feel free to join in the fun of our discussions. We'd love to get to know you better!
If you are a poster on the Loom and have not yet had your picture added to our Photograph Album, be sure to email me your photograph and I would be more than happy to add it! We've added some newly framed manes, so be sure to take a peek! The link can be found at the bottom left of our home page! http://www.geocities.com/thelonghairloom/
It has been too long since my last update to you. It has been a busy summer, and I have gotten a bit behind in my article work. I am so thankful for your patience and continued support of The Long Hair Loom! We hope you find us to be a support to you in your growing out and styling goals.
We have had a lot of new folks joining the board. There are so many common questions that are asked, many being what does this mean or that mean. The article, Abbreviations, Terms and Definitionswill be a big help in giving them the basics of what is going on. You might even want to refresh your own memory! If there is anything you'd like to see added, please let me know. You can find the article here: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=246853&messageid=1059295428
August 1st is our next Measure In day. We hope you will join us for measuring in with your length and growth progress! I've created a simple measuring article to show those new to the measuring process the way we measure on the Loom. It's certainly not the only way to measure, but one we find to be easy, reliable, and used on many hair boards. To read, How To Measure Your Hair please visit the library! The direct link is: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=246853&messageid=1059560998
Other articles are in the works, and new styles are soon to be added to the Styling Station! Please stay tuned!
Greetings! Since my last letter we've added some new hair styles into the Styling Station that you might enjoy. The rope braid and some variations of it, including the "Rose Bun" which was brought to our attention by Wishing4. Thanks Wishing4! We've also added the Butterfly clip braid, and The Mrs. El Knot, aka The Hairstick Knot. Mrs. El inspired this hair style. Thanks Mrs. El! Other additions are the restoration of Neil's Pro updo pictures, and Goldenhair's links to some of her lovely hairstyles!
In the Library you'll find a new article called, "Long Hair Do's and Don'ts." If you know someone that is trying to grow out their hair, this would be a great link to email to them!
On the Spinning Wheel Swap Spot you'll find a Mason Pearson Mixed Pocket brush and other hair goodies available from Nitsa, as well as some scrunchies made by Thinkfirst. Come take a peek! http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/242466
The Photograph Album has had some lovely new additions! You can find a link on the home page at the bottom left corner, or in the Library under links. I've also added my personal gallery called, "Forever Fox." The link is on the Home Page beneath the Picture Album link, and is currently on page one of our main hair care board in the posts.
We've had great growth each month on the Loom, and I want to thank everyone who participates. We know there are a lot of lurkers out there, and we hope you will come and introduce yourself, and take part in the conversation! We want to hear from you. Invite your friends and share the joy of long hair!
Well, our contest is officially over and we have a tie! After discussing our options we have decided to split the prize between Lucy and Valerie! Congratulations to you both! I am sure you will treasure your Skeeter Scrunchie and Bun Cover just as I treasure mine.

natural products
I certainly enjoyed this contest! Special thanks to Skeeter for donating our prize! We hope to have more contests in the coming months!
We have a new votelet poll. Be sure to get your vote in! Our last votelet poll concluded that you all want to know more about biotin! You will find the article, "Biotin, A Study" in the library.
We also have a new links listing. Besides our hair related links, there is now a section for non-hair related links. If you'd like to trade links with us, please let me know. Links will be posted at my discretion.
The Styling Station now has three new step by step instruction hair styles listed. Neil has also been kind enough to post some pictures of beautiful styles that show great imagination and talent from the designer. He has also reposted a style he did himself, which is very lovely. Be sure to come and take a look!
Since many of you thought about complimenting someone's hair, but just didn't do it, I've decided that I'm going to try to get up a "compliment card" on the website that you can print out. It will be a business card for the Loom that reads, "I think your hair is lovely! Long may you grow! There will also be additional information about the Loom and all the informational fun we offer. This way, if you're too shy to speak, you can just hand out a card! I hope to get this up soon. I'll keep you posted!
In closing, I'd like to share with you the words of one of our Loom-mates, Olympia. We were discussing how each person is important to the Loom, and in my words, were threads... woven together to create something beautiful. Olympia's reply was so beautiful I thought I would share it with you. She said, " The past and present are composed of the tiny little details of one's day and weave the fabric of your life. I tend to see this "fabric" as a tapestry: Here there are a few black threads of sadness, but there are the golden threads of joy! Of course, there are lots of other colors of threads woven into the fabric as well, and while I'm not particularly fond of some of the individual colors, the tapestry as a whole is really quite spectacular...and how those black threads cause the golden ones to stand out and really glisten!
If you try to pull out some of the threads that you don't like, the entire tapestry could unravel and fall apart. Better to leave them there and continue weaving, knowing that they, too, in their own small way, help support the whole...the whole that makes your own tapestry beautiful and perfectly unique, perfectly your own."
Each one of you makes the Loom the beautiful place it is! I'm so glad you've chosen to add your thread to the tapestry.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that our new home page has been launched! Thanks for being so patient with me. It's all been a learning experience, one I'm glad for... just wish I could learn more quickly so you didn't have to wait on me so much! Please take a moment to take a peek. Suggestions are always welcome.
I'd like to add a special thanks to Karen Marie Shelton of Hairboutique.com for her front page posting of our home page link. We've had nearly 2000 hits this month on the home page, and over 60% have come from the link off of Hairboutique! Karen, you've been great and I thank you!
I'd like to start a picture gallery for those who visit our site. If you'd like to have your picture posted, please email it to me using the email link on the homepage (thelonghairloom@...) . Please do not hit reply in order to send pictures. I need them all to come to one account. Keep in mind that larger sized pictures are better for resizing than smaller sized pictures.
We have a contest coming up on the Loom. I'll be posting the rules and prize very soon! Be looking for that on our Main Hair Care discussion board!
Hello! I hope this month has gotten off to a great start for you! Things have been busy on the Loom. I suppose that is a good thing!
I'd like to welcome those who are new to the mailing list! I'm glad you've joined! If you enjoy this update list, please share the address with your friends. They are most welcome to join too!
In the Library you will find two new articles to read. The Discussion Board Rules are at the top of the list. Please take a moment to read these. While everything is functioning well on the boards, we want to keep it that way. "The Rules" will ensure that everyone is treated with respect and fairness. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=246853&messageid=1052294068
Have you ever wanted a special keepsake, something to pass on to your kids, something that will last? Read our interview with "Ric the Combmaker" and you might find exactly what you are looking for! Ric makes gorgeous wooden combs that will last your lifetime and then some! Custom work is welcome.
I continue to work on our homepage and hope to have something new and improved up by the end of the month. I'm always hoping for sooner, but I'm so new to all of this that it's all been a learning experience!
Thank you for being a part of the Long Hair Loom. Just like a loom weaves together different colors of thread to create a beautiful tapestry, together we can create a beautiful community of people with knowledge about long hair needs! Without you, it wouldn't be the same! Please feel free to join in the discussion. We want to hear from you!
I wanted to let you know we have two new articles in our Loom Library. At the top of the page you'll find an interview with Karlie Eldred of Dressy Tresses. Here's a sneak peek!
"I believe in giving customers choices because fads come and go. I also lean toward the high end, fancy accessories that are more unusual. Anyone can buy a plastic clip in their local store, but finding an Austrian crystal barrette in the shape of a butterfly is going to be a hard to find item. Most of my items were made as limited edition designs which is another reason you're not going to see them mass marketed anywhere. There are some companies in China that are copying some of the designs, but they are cheaply made and they don't have the same quality of sparkle and durability."
To hear more from Karlie about her own long hair as well as her work as a jewelry designer, use the link below to go directly to that article.
Stephanie is just 16 years old, but that doesn't stop her from creating elaborate replicas of Star Wars hair styles. In our interview with her she said, “I do not like to have the same style all the time. I love to do different and fun things with it, and I am always looking for ideas. Whenever I see an interesting style, I like to see if I can do it too. Sometimes it is not even a hairstyle...just shapes I see around me give me lots of ideas.“
If you enjoy The Long Hair Loom, be sure to invite your friends to come and join us. We are just beginning to grow. Last month we had 27,392 hits. On the first day of May we've already had 1,823 hits! Each month our hits grow larger. Don't miss out on the fun! New things are on the way!
I thank you for your support of the Loom. Long may we grow!
