as a result of this information coming out.

Because patients would be withdrawn too rapidly from these drugs
leading to many deaths as a result from the potential withdrawal-
induced psychosis or suicidal and homicidal ideations as well as
fatal physical effects such as seizures and heart attacks.

Yet, just since the FDA hearing, among the family and close friends
of our directors here at ICFDA, we have had two senseless deaths
apparently caused by abrupt withdrawal. These were patients who were
being warned. One was an elderly patient and the other a young man
of 18.

Even with all of the very vocal warnings I have given I did not

Since many of the symptoms of nervous system disorders such as
Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's are very similar to those of the
aftermath of meningitis, we felt that the course of treatment would
likely have a lot of similarities as well. We wanted to consult with
Dr. Jonas Yoder (a Naturopathic Doctor, Master Herbalist, and top-
level manager in both Pure Herbs and Nature's Sunshine) about your
client before we sent you our opinion.

The literature on B.&B.-W (Brain and Balance from Pure Herbs,
http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=PH-2030) says that
it is beneficial for both MS and Parkinson's, and the information
on Ol' Number 11 (http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=PH-
2465) says that it is "used to repair or strengthen any type of
brain, nerve, flesh, or cartilege or muscle injury or weakness."

Pure Herbs also says that Prickly Ash Extract
(http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=PH-0750) has often
been used for paralysis. Pure Herbs also suggests Ashwagandha
Extract (http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=PH-0040)
for Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. Yoder also agreed that any of these
three might prove beneficial. You might try them either in rotation
or in combination and see which produces the best result for the
client.

Since MS includes a degeneration of the mylen sheath and your 5-year-
old has experienced "demylezation" of the nerves in his arm, Dr.
Yoder agreed that Ashwagandha might also be beneficial for helping
the body regenerate the mylen sheath.

You might also consider adding Helichrysum essential oil
(http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=3943-0) to the
regimen for its overall healing properties, massaged into the arm
two or three times daily. It might also be helpful to apply Wild
Oregano essential oil (http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?

days. Since both of these oils have a tendancy to be rather harsh to
tender young skin, they should always be well diluted before using.
Use a concentration of no more than five drops per tablespoon of

The viral condition that caused the problem in the first place may
have severely depleted the child's calcium reserves (which is also
indicated by the apparent nerve damage). Nature's Sunshine has an

might want to consider CA.-W (http://www.theherbdoc.com/detail.asp?

Since 5-year-olds can be fairly easily overwhelmed by aggressive
treatment, you might want to start easy and work your way up to the
child's tolerance level.

Dear HerbDoc,

I have a client who has a recurring cyst, located in her anal cleft.
The only treatment her doctor gives her is to drain it when it
becomes too pus-filled.  It is extremely painful, directly impacting
her quality of life.  Are there any herbs you can recommend that she
can use topically and internally?  I am a medical intuitive, and when
I put my hand over the area, I felt bacteria in that area.  I will be
muscle testing her next visit.  (I am studying for my Doctorate in
Naturopathy with Trinity College.)

becomes law, it could very well mark the death of health care

With military precision the pharmaceutical industry and medical
monopoly [a totally self-regulated monopoly (for whatever little bit
that self-regulation may be worth) that rakes in $6+ billion
annually, I might add. RS] have created and launched two new guided
missiles to blow away competing herbal and alternative health
products and practitioners.

The target is the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of
1994 (DSHEA). The first missile is S-722. On March 26, 2003, Sen.
Richard Durbin (D-IL) introduced S-722. Co-sponsor is Charles
Schumer (D-NY).

On precisely the same date, March 26, 2003, the Journal of the
American Medical Association (JAMA) launched the second missile. It
published a lead editorial entitled "The Need for Regulation of
Dietary Supplements." It insists that:

"If dietary supplements have or promote ... biological activity,
they should be considered to be active drugs." (See JAMA 3/26/03,
Vol. 289, No. 12).

The old AMA/FDA argument, which was rejected by Congress in 1994,
was that every true health claim turned dietary supplements into
drugs. [Thus, the simple true statement, or "health claim",
that "green leafy vegetables are good for you" would immediately
turn all green leafy vegetables into drugs and give the AMA and FDA
the right to control and collect all profit from the sale of all
green leafy vegetables. RS]

The new AMA/FDA strategy is that if herbs have biological activity
they must be regulated by the FDA as active drugs.

Well, duh! Virtually all herbs and other dietary supplements [as
well as most of the rest of the foods we eat - RS] have some
biological activity. And some have far more and some far less than
others do. S-722 and the AMA pretend they are only targeting those
herbs with so much biological activity that they produce "Adverse
Experiences." Durbin misleadingly call his bill "The Dietary
Supplement Safety Act of 2003."

Enclosed with this article is a form letter. Please sign and get

It is no accident that S-722 and the AMA editorial appeared on the
same day. A similar European Directive is making its way through the

RE: CALIFORNIA NATUROPATHIC LICENSING BILL S 907

Last week while attending the Health Food Expo West in Anaheim,
California, Dr. Schope, a member of the American Association of
Naturopathic Physicians, approached the booth of the HealthKeepers
Alliance featuring the "Life Matters" nationally-syndicated radio
program hosted by Greg Meadows. He requested to be interviewed so he
could tell about the "California Health Freedom Bill" he advocated.
He was told that the bill needed to be analyzed before The
HealthKeepers Alliance would permit a radio interview.

The bill is nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing. It does not
advocate health freedom, but rather health restrictions. Rather than
a health freedom, the bill is a monopolistic attempt to outlaw every
naturopathic doctor who is not a graduate of one of three Colleges.
These three Colleges advocate a dangerous, perverted, and
illegitimate form of naturopathy which advocates the controversial
use of synthetic prescription drugs and surgery. People who need
drugs or surgery should go to a highly qualified medical specialist
certified by the AMA, not an under-trained medical-want-to-be.

Citizens should have the right to choose the health practitioner of
their choice. Senate Bill 907 would send those who seek natural
naturopathic counsel from a naturopathic doctor to only practitioners
who are a member of the alumni association of these three Colleges.

Other naturopathic colleges train doctors who are just as qualified
and who do not advocate unnatural drug therapy or play surgeon. There
is more to naturopathic health than doctors seeking licensure just to
collect insurance dollars or promoting spurious techniques that are
not a part of traditional naturopathy. These non-traditional doctors
should be called the un-naturopaths.

Hi all,

Two yrs ago I had two hip repl, last one on 9/27/00. In Dec a MRSA infection was discovered.  I had to be treated with powerful antibiotics. Since that time, any open wound develops an infection or I may have flu like symptoms 2-3 times a yr. Prior to that I was rarely ever ill. It is my understanding that this infection stays with you for life.  What can I take daily to calm this infection down or "get rid of it?  Will garlic do it?  Or what else?

Back To School



Hopefully by now your children (grandchildren, neighbor's children)
are back in school. With the back to school season comes several
challenges to teachers and school nurses.

School nurses begin their yearly lice screenings and teachers must
decide how to address students with various learning difficulties.

Today's topic:  New uses for CoEnzyme-Q10

Horsetail
Equisetrum arvense

A.K.A. Shavegrass, Bottlebrush, Dutch Rushes

Bodily Influences:  Astringent, Carminative, Diuretic, Emmenagogue –
mild, Galactagogue, Hemostatic, Lithotriptic, Nutritive,
Parasiticide, Vulnerary.

Its botanical name is derived from two Latin terms, equus meaning
horse, and seta for bristle.  The name resulted from its peculiar
bristle appearance at the stem joints. Horsetail is strongly
astringent and is therefore used for centuries, as a diuretic aiding
in kidney infections, dropsy, and gravel.  It is also beneficial as a
wash for swelling eyelids.  In Guatemala, American Indians have used
it for cancer.  Decoctions, poultices and infusions were used for
polyps, abdominal and oral cancer.

Horsetail has large amounts of silica.  Children have large amounts
of silica in their body which makes children so supple and limber.
As we age, we allow our bodies to become heavy with calcium and thus,
lose our ability to bend, becoming stiff and immobile.

Horsetail helps facilitate the use of calcium in the body.

It has a high silica content, helps to strengthen fingernails,
increase the flow of urine and helps to hold calcium in the body.

It kills eggs of parasites and dissolves tumors

Horsetail is also good for preventing split-ends (hair).

Horsetail increases the production of urine and shrinks inflamed

Drinking water

Most people are unaware of how important drinking water is to our
bodies.

  Water cleans the filter.  Our kidneys need water to filter out all
the toxins. Kidneys remove wastes like uric acid, urea, and lactic
acid that must be dissolved in water. If not enough water is
present, these substances are not removed effectively, and may cause
damage to the kidneys..  Toxins build up in the body causing all
kinds of problems. Drinking water helps flush out these unwanted
toxins. Water carries nutrients and oxygen to cells through the
blood, and regulates body temperature through perspiration. Water is
essential for breathing, the lungs must be moistened by water to
facilitate oxygen intake and carbon dioxide excretion.
Approximately one pint of liquid is lost each day from exhaling.  If
not enough water is taken in for fluid balance, every body function
could be impaired.  The more you exercise, the more water must be
consumed to keep your body's water level in balance.

Your body is made up mostly of water.  In fact, water makes up 75 to
85 percent of your cells, The reason you thirst for water regularly
and   perhaps even hourly basis is due to three main benefits your
body receives from water.  Water creates internal cohesion for your
body, giving your cells and organs the flexibility to be stretched
and even strained within certain limits without rupturing or
tearing.  Every time you move, reach for something or stand up,
water is helping to protect your organs from being torn in the
process.

A good guideline for the amount of water we need is half your weight
in ounces per day.  If you are 100 pounds you would drink 50 oz. of
water per day.  No, soda does not count as water. I have heard it
takes 32 8 oz. glasses of water to flush out 1 (12 oz container of
soda).

Ideal is 4 ounces every 15 minutes. This way the water goes to the
cellular level.  When you drink more than 4 oz at a time the first
four goes to the cellular level and the rest goes to the bladder.
Adding lemon to your water is cleansing to the body, alkalizing to
help  keep your body's pH normal and gives a great taste.

Essential Oils

the palm of your hand (about the size of the tip of your finger)
then add 2 drops of Bergamot (one for each arm). Mix and put half in
each underarm.

2.  Dandruff:  Vinegar Rinse- 4 drops Lavender, 3 drops thyme
linalool, 2 drops eucalyptus or peppermint, 2 drops rosemary.  Mix
into 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Then combine vinegar
mixture with 1 oz. of distilled water.  Massage one teaspoonful onto
scalp each night before bed.  The smell of the vinegar will
dissipate in a few minute's time.  Also try rinsing the hair with
nettle tea after washing.
3.  Relaxing Bath – Epsom salts, 3 drops bergamot, 2 drops lemon, 1
drop rosemary. add to bath and enjoy.

Essential oils can be used in a diffuser or in massage oil.

         Cinnamon Leaf (cinnamomun Zeylanicum): for stress, tension,
and calming.Cinnamon leaf is anti-bacterial and analgesic.

	 Neroli-(citrus aurantium) –.  Used for, headaches, lack of
concentration, scars, oily skin, stretch marks, tines (ringworm or
other skin fungus). Neroli is anti-bacterial, antidepressent,
antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, carminative
(dispels intestinal gas).

	 Jasmine Absolute – (Jasminum Officinalis) warm, floral,
exotic. Used for: depression, dry skin, exhaustion, labor pains, and
sensitive skin.  Jasmine is an aphrodisiac, anti-depressent, anti-
spasmodic.

Mandarin Red - (Citrus Reticulata) sweet fresh oil. It is mild,
soothing, calming, refreshing, uplifting, and good for children and
the elderly. Diffused,. It - makes for a happy atmosphere. It  calms
restless children, and is  good  for hiccups, gas, and  indigestion.
Its properties are antiseptic, digestive, diuretic, and tonic, and
it blends will with Bergamont, Neroli, Rose, Sandlewood, Ylang
Ylang.

	 Marjoram Sweet – (Origanum Margorana) is good for sprains
and bruises, provides comfort to joints and stiffness, and calming
to the nervous system . It is excellent for hyperactive children.
It relieves painful muscles (especially the lower back), menstrual
conditions, rheumatic aches and pains, swollen joints, especially
those that are cold and stiff.  Marjoram Sweet effects circulation,
dilates arteries and capillaries, improves blood flow, relieves
headaches ( including migraines), insomnia, and soothes digestion.
