It sounds similar to what the surgeons said will happen with Arabella. re: casts etc. They have said we need to wait and see until after the surgery how she will respond i.e. pain and healing. Arabella's surgery is 17th Nov. We are worried about the pain, but hopefully with the right medication she won't be in too much.
Hope you don't mind me asking you some more questions???
We have been told Arabella's surgery will take approx 4 hrs as she is getting both hips done. How long was Jakes surgery?
What did the Doctor's said about recovery and healing? Did Jake get pins put in?
Thank you again we really appreciate your time and thoughts!
Take Care of yourselves and your darling little boy!
Kind Regards
Megan (Australia)

Hi Megan
Your timing is perfect. Jake just got home from the hospital Yesterday (sun). Last Tues (the 20th) Jake underwent a right proximal femur varus osteotomy and adductor release.
He is a fair amount of pain, but it is being managed reasonably well. The doctor did not use a spica cast. AT the time the hospital used a wedge, which did not work, as he twisted himself so that the right leg was not adducted. At home for the last year and a bit, we have been using a rhino brace at night. Jake has not been able to tolerate the brace for more than a couple of hours. The hospital has taken that brace and made a couple of modifications, to it, and we are using that for him.
The pro to this is that he was already familiar with it, the con is that it has to be removed everytime we have to do a diaper change. That being said, i think with the diapering it gives him an opportunity to move his
limbs (we do it) to put him in and out of the brace, maybe allowing for some muscle movement.
We were to stay in the hospital for only a couple of days, but he needed oxygen until Sat, and he really didn't eat or drink until Sun.
You may want to look up Maple leaf brace, that was the brace the doctor prefered to use, but was not available at the hospital we were at. Good luck to you, i will keep everyone up to date.
