Subject: 10/30 Community Poverty Simulation - Oct 30th

Gettysburg College's Center for Public Service and South Central Community Action Programming, Inc would like to invite you and your members to The Community Action Poverty Simulation being facilitated at Gettysburg College on October 30 from 7:00-8:30pm.

The Community Action Poverty Simulation is a unique tool to educate everyone, from students to policy makers to local community leaders, about the day to day realities of life with a shortage of money and an abundance of stress.

During a simulation, participants role-play the lives of low-income families, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self sufficiency on Social Security. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the simulation while interacting with various community resources staffed by low-income volunteers.

The simulation enables participants to view poverty from different angles in an experiential setting, while empowering low-income volunteers by allowing them an opportunity to interact with leaders from their community.

There will be childcare provided for all participants during the simulation. If you are planning to bring your children please e-mail me at laphma01@...  to ensure that we have enough space.

The nature of the event does require an RSVP, please visit www.gettysburg.edu/cps to register.

If you have any questions or problems registering please e-mail Mary Laphen at laphma01@....
