Tell
the Senate "Real ID must go!"
The state Senate returned to work this week, and the next step to stop
Real ID in Pennsylvania is upon us. Real ID is a real nightmare
that will greatly increase government surveillance of American
citizens, increase our vulnerability to identity theft, and cost us
hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars by turning our state driver's
license into the United States' first national identification card.
In June, the state House unanimously approved House Bill 2537, a
bill that would stop the commonwealth from seeking certification in
Real ID. That bill now awaits action in the Senate.
Call your senator today and ask him or her to stop Real ID in
Pennsylvania and support House Bill 2537. You can find your
senator and his or her contact information at the Senate's website.

Q
& A GUIDE TO ELECTION DAY
During this election season, the ACLU of PA is focused on
helping people exercise one of our most cherished rights - the right to
vote.
Unfortunately, certain communities face barriers to
exercising this right, such as language access, access by those with
disabilities, and misinformation about the ability of ex-felons to
vote.
To help combat these problems, the ACLU has produced a
voter empowerment card with comprehensive information about voting in
Pennsylvania. Cards are currently available in English. Versions in
several other languages, including Spanish, are coming soon!
If you'd like a copy (or several) of these cards, email us
at vote@.... A web version of the card can be viewed here.

COUNTERING
THE MYTHS
Many people, especially ex-felons themselves, incorrectly
believe former offenders do not have the right to vote in Pennsylvania.
Under state law, felons who have been released from prison, or who will
be freed by the time of the election, are eligible to vote. Only those
felons who are incarcerated are not allowed to vote. Get the Facts

THE
ACLU OF PA CAN HELP
The ACLU believes that all registration and permitting
laws, as applied to charitable, religious, political and
get-out-the-vote groups, violate the First Amendment. In
addition, background checks, photos and waiting periods are
unconstitutional. The law is clear: canvassing is permitted
between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. If you run into a
problem, contact us. Get the Facts
