Subject: Federal Funding - FVPSA, VAWA, & VOCA
This message is from the PCADV Policy Contacts List
Hello there! Members of U.S. Congress are on break and back in their
districts right now--but they head back to DC on September 7th. That means
that we have just two more weeks to meet with Members of Congress and their
staff in the district!
Why is this so important?
Senators and Representatives are hearing from so many constituents right now
on a variety of issues. Let's make sure that the voices of survivors are
heard loud and clear so that our U.S. Reps and Senators prioritize (1) the
need to reauthorize the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act
(FVPSA) and (2) the need to increase funding for VAWA, FVPSA and VOCA!!
Below are some documents that should make it easy for you to reach out to
Senators, Representatives, and their staff. We need to make sure that all
Members of Congress know that FVPSA reauthorization and funding for VAWA,
VOCA and FVPSA are a priority for their constituents.
Please try to schedule at least one site visit to your program before they
go back to DC! At the very least, get in touch with their district office
now by phone, letter, or email and tell them about your services and funding
needs.
Have an event coming up (DV Awareness Month, annual fundraiser, etc.)?
Invite them! Have a newsletter? Subscribe them! Have printed brochures or
posters about your DV and/or your program that you give out? Bring the
materials to their district office so they can make the materials available
for their constituents!
Share your feedback!
Knowing the outcomes of your member programs activities helps to bolster our
activities at the state and national coalition levels. Please let us know
who you have seen and what they said!
Of course, if I can help, CALL ME! I'm always glad to!
Thanks!
Regarding FVPSA
House of Representatives
Education and Labor Committee
Healthy Families and Children Subcommittee (HFC)
NOTE: PA Rep. Todd Platts is the Ranking Republican on this
subcommittee so it is ESSENTIAL that those in his district contact
him
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and ask him to make FVPSA reauthorization
and full funding for VAWA, VOCA, and FVPSA a priority!!!!
PA Rep. Altmire is also on this subcommittee and must be contacted
by his constituent DV programs, as well.
Senate
Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee
Children and Families Subcommittee
Regarding Appropriations (in both Houses)
Full Appropriations Committee
Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee
Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee
*But remember, it is important to get our message to ALL Senators and
Representatives.
