Your take on the "elders" or "leaders" or "gurus" of SI is so off base that
I have to interject my own opinion. I've read your rants about this subject
now for the past couple of years, and, boy, is it tiring! Over the years,
on this and other forums and on your website, you have blasted the "elders"
and "leaders" of SI for not doing enough; not promoting the work in the
manner that you see fit, not divulging the SI work in a way that is more
readily digested for the intellect, and a basic failing in progressing the
SI work as a body of knowledge.
I must say, these are mighty big accusations for someone who doesn't have an
active practice! How easy it is to sit back on the sidelines and play
armchair quarterback! Get out in the field and do a few thousand sessions
and see if you come up with the same ideas. "But its so hard to start a
practice," you say. Exactly. It is extremely hard to start a practice and
get learning. From my very basic and limited understanding of SI, this work
happens at a pre-verbal/sub-verbal place. It is a place where the ego and
intellect fall away - where all of the wonderful models and ideas about the
body that we come up with disappear, and all that is left is a relationship
between the practitioner, the client, and the bigger energy pattern, that in
the nomenclature of SI is called gravity, but also goes by the names of chi,
prana, ki, love, and light. My understanding of the goal of SI is to first
wake the client up to their relationship with gravity, and then over time,
enhance this experience. As a beginning practitioner, it is very hard to
understand this concept. It takes a lot of experience and meditation on
one's own process to discover our relationship to this energy. So we are
taught this form called the 10-series and a smattering of techniques to work
with and are sent out into the world to get our "real" education. I've been
told that Dr. Rolf mentioned a five year time frame of "sweeping the temple"
- that there was an important time frame that we needed to grow into the
understanding of our relationship to gravity. Unfortunately, no one tells
you that during this time frame you will have to uncover and work through
many things in your own being that are painful and unpleasant. But know
this: everyone who practices this work goes through their version of this.
I believe that you are going through your version of it, just as I'm going
through mine.
With these ideas in mind, think again about your expression of displeasure
of our teachers. Why judge their actions? Be thankful and grateful that
they have brought the work to the place that it is. The more I do the work,
the more I realize they withheld nothing from the "secrets" of Structural
Integration, during the basic training. It just takes doing the work to
figure this out.
You are displeased with the state of the profession? Do something about it!
Stop waiting for someone else to give you something on a silver platter,
chew, and digest it for you. You've been a vocal advocate of a national
organization for the past couple of years. Well, one has started. What are
you doing to help? Are you offering your newly honed web page authoring
skills to IASI? Or will this be another organization for you to criticize
and discredit?
You complain about the lack of written material to support Structural
Integration. Have you thought about what a testament it is to the work that
it is kept alive as an oral tradition? There must be something to this, as
many capable and intelligent folks who have been practicing for decades,
have declined to write about SI.
Reda, I believe that you have a lot to offer the SI community. Try
establishing your practice again. Get a few sessions going every week. Go
get a series from someone and get back on the SI track. If you don't
already have one, establish a tai chi/chi qong or yoga practice. Stick with
the computer gig as well. Your website (apart from the rants about the
teachers, etc.) is promising and has a wonderful goal behind it- integrating
and disseminating information about SI. With some revamping and
collaboration, maybe you could turn it into IASI's website? (just
ideas....)
I appreciate you listening, and hope we can create a constructive
dialogue...
