[the following is posted at the request of Jim Pascucci]

I am thinking of creating a new type of meeting where people can share in a more
"realtime" format. The impetus for this came from my meeting with a number of SI
practitioners whose practices are not doing that well.

The new meeting is based on using NetMeeting, a free Microsoft product. The
first several
meetings will be about practice building. I am asking Cosper Scafidi, a Rolfer
and MBA in
Marketing to present to us a presentation he gave at the last Rolf Institute
Annual meeting
on this subject.

I realized that I had mentioned this to the Rolf Forum and that it may be of
interest to a
wider SI community. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested or if
you have
questions at jpascu@...

[moderator's note: Netmeeting is currently only available on Windows systems]

Hi Structural Integrators

For a few weeks, the buzz has been that the IASI Symposium in
Seattle, October 14 - 16 has been full up and thus closed to any more
folks who wanted to attend. After some negotiation with the Hyatt,
we have been able to obtain more space, so:

Registration is open again. Come.

Nearly 400 SI practitioners, mostly from Rolf, Heller, and Guild, but
some from each of about 10 smaller schools as well, plan to attend
this gathering, as well as vendors and about 20 breakout workshops.
We will hear from Deane Juhan, as well as the original voices of
Rosemary Feitis, Louis Schultz, and Jim Oschman. We will also be
celebrating Peter Melchior's life and widespread influence.

This meeting will also set the tone for the next phase of research,
communication among schools and faculty on curriculum, our future
path with legislation and competency assurance, exams and evaluative
processes, and just generally making the best use of the resurgent
interest in SI, and this opportunity to band and bond together.

Come be part of it, make your voice heard.

Thanks, Tom Myers

And Amy, thanks for this link below. It led down some great alleyways.

Dear SI practitioners

for European practitioners, consult www.rolfing.org

this is just the Rolfers, and if Hellers or Guilders have a website
for their own Euro directory, please put it on this forum.

There are only a couple of KMI practitioners in Europe, all in UK, so
when I am referring in Europe, I use the European Rolfing Association
list at this site.

Since the Guild et al have fewer practitioners in Germany, your best
bet is rolf.org for finding practitioners in Europe.
If you need help knowing where people are, the European Rolfing
Association can help.

Christoph, an excellent practitioner living in Munich but also
practicing out towards Rosenheim, can be reached at +49-8025-99-37-37

I have contacted the governor's office and also I just spoke with the
local United Way. The lady said she believes that there is a place
and need for us if we would like to bring a little "healing touch" to
the hurricane refugees that have arrived here in Denver. Some are
being housed at Lowry and others have been put up at various hotels
so she said we could send people to different sites. Some of the
other volunteers out there could also probably use a little TLC from
us.

Someone else will be getting back to me in terms of details and I
will let you know as soon as I hear something. In the meantime, she
said it would be helpful to know how many volunteers we are talking
about so if there are anymore of you out there that are interested in
helping, please contact me [see email below]. If you personally know
any massage therapist or Guild members that you think might be
interested in helping, please let me know.

As I suspected and understandably, she said that at this time no-one
is allowed to just show up out there. Again - I will keep you posted
as soon as I hear anything back from them.

The best nutrition I know of for healing the tissues is large amounts
of dark green leafy veg juices - kale, collards, parsley, chard,
spinach, pasley, dandelion and beet greens - up to two quarts a day
even. Also handfuls of seaweed - kelp and wakame a number of times a
day - I healed a severly sprained thumb and wrist that way and also a
numbed nerve in two fingers. It also has helped me remove some of
these tissue indentation areas on my own legs.

Dr Schulze's deep tissue oil http://www.herbdoc.com is very
effective in reducing the pain and immediate trauma but not to
totally heal the tissue. I read a famous doctor said it takes seven
times the amount of nutrition to repair and heal as it does to
maintain.

Comfrey root powder poultices - powder avail in health food stores
and from Frontier Natl Food products in Iowa helps right on the
injury as it has healing properties for tissues even down to the
bones.

Dr Christopher's in Utah also has herbal capsules for bone flesh and
cartilage but I found the best and fastest healing is the veg juices,
salads, and so forth. If juicing - can also add sprouts for added
enzyme healing - but it is the dark leafy greens supplemented with
loads and loads of kelp and wakame that really seems to do the trick
for me and others I know. This is what I have used for myself and
them for 10 years.

Garrell,

I had a client years ago who suffered a gastroc tear and ended up with a 1.5
inch dent in his calf muscle. He was virtually crippled by the injury and
had been unable to play squash for two years due to the injury. I followed a
technique that Joseph Heller taught me and that was to push tissue into the
hole, as if you are trying to fill it up. You push from opposite sides of
the hole at the same time toward the center. Come from all directions around
the border of the hole. Literally within minutes, the hole began to
disappear and he regained full function of his leg within a single session.
I was sceptical that this amazing result would last for very long, but it
did and both my client and I were shocked that it did. It appeared that the
tissue knitted itself back together in a very, very short time. Try it and
let us know if this works for this client's particular problem.

Garrell,

Interestingly enough, someone I know had, what sounds like, a similar
"dent" in the tissue of her leg and had had it worked on in a number of
different ways with little result. She eventually had some success when
seeing a TCM practitioner who applied cupping
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cupping) to the area.

Anyway, for what it's worth.

Sincerely,

Geoff

Hi all,

Someone very close to me suffered crush injury about 2 years ago. She's
a SI practitioner and has been through the series since the injury. The
injury is on her leg, about six inches above the ankle. There is a dent
in the calf(more specific about muscle and location). What happen was a
car knocked her off her bike at low speed. Her leg was trapped between
the frame of the bike and the car. The dent in her leg looks to be from
where the bike frame was pressing on it. She lives in Boulder CO.

She's still in negotiation with the drivers insurance, and she needs a
professional medical opinion about the current state of the leg, and
implications of the injury for the future. Any suggestions on health
care providers that might know about such an injury?

What are the chances that the tissue will heal and go back to its
original shape? It's very sensitive to the touch. Are there any
therapies out there that might address such a trauma? I keep thinking
that SI should help, and it does, but the trauma is deep and seems
fixed in the body.

She reports yoga type stretching helps.

Thanks,
garrell

Yup, going deeper into psoas, hamstrings, inside of head and
adductors has done a lot more of the trick. Lots of intersonnected
deep releases up and down the whole body. Tnx, Lou

Hi,

I would like some ideas - help. I have been working with a woman who
has been extremely tight all the way down to the bones for years - from
many years of running and also childhood emotional tightness. I have
been making very good progress and she is more erect, looser, and
flexible than she has been in years - one part of the structure
loosening is helping others release - and I can push right thru the
thighs ro the quads from the hamstrings - so it is all getting a lot
better. She has also improves her diet and we have done a large amount
of old emotional releases from the structure and organs, too.

Now the problem.

When she lies flat on her back, the back lies flat on the table - but
when she sits up she gets bulging erector muscles all the way up
starting from the base of the spine - and there is a notch of the
vertebrae between them. If she stands up - same bulges and
indentation. When she bends over from the waist about 45 deg give or
take, the bulges and notch go away.

She also has the left leg tighter than the right up thru the thigh.
Even tho I have done the thighs rather deeply, and also pushed a LOT on
the abs to open them and lift the rib cage - when she bends over you
could see the lower back being tight and being held by what feels like
the legs.

when she has the rear legs longer than the front of the body - she gets
a nice sturdy-light uplift but also a pain in the left lower back just
above the buttocks and even a pull down in the left side of the face.
She has a notch in the vertebrae-disk area just at the base of the neck
where the upper back and rib cage curve over and the neck pulls back.

Having her stretch with her arm up and go all the way down and around
in all the areas incl the pelvis in front and side and groin, the
painful sensations go away. They used to be there for hours or days
before a lot of our treatment.

I can tell that if I put myself into her position and then have to arch
the back to compensate for imbalanced extra long hamstrings (as opposed
to still too short front of the body) that I get pains and tightness
just where she does.

I know I have more psoas, illiacus and leg musculature to lengthen -
especially the hamstrings deeper still - as I can get only an inch or
inch and a half down into between them wigh my elbow even - and then I
can use my fingers to get more and to spread those leayers so far
across.

So - what am I missing please or what should I emphasize more to 1.)
fix the pelvic tilt and 2.) to raidse the rib cage further up in front
and diminish the notch between say - C7 - T1 where she has a vertebral
hump sticking out.

Thanks,
Lou

Dave Kennedy - address above, is nearby
and there used to be an oldtime rolfer there named James Bardot, but
I don't know if he is still practicing - might be worth a look in the
book.

If this person has been diagnosed by a competent genetic counseling M.D. with
this condition then I would be very careful with any kind of deep tissue
structural integration.
Check a Merck manual or the following link http://www.ednf.org/whatiseds.html
. You could cause internal bleeding and serious joint distentions. All the
nutrition in the world will not help this condition much. Probably, if this
person has this diagnosis then they have gone down the nutrition and exercise
paths a ways and should know about problems therof.....Structural Integration is
still valid and movement and energy work can be invaluable but be careful with
stretchable, friable and bleeding connective tissues.......
Good work in asking....now we all get to learn a bit.

Hi Dennis,

This is a nutrition problem. I have known a few people with easily
bruising and did research with some very knowledgeable people for
years on myself and with others. At the very least she needs a lot
of cal-mag and trace minerals and a large amount of chlorophyll in
fresh veg form plus - bioflavenoids are good for building up
capilarry (sp?) walls. (Sooo many people are deficient in adequate
C-complex.) One of the best whole food ways to get a lot of
C-complex and Bioflavenoids is from Rose Hips cut and sifted - can
get at big healthfood stores - organic better. She can also get a
lot of capsules but it is not as effective. I will talk with you and
email with you a lot more info if you want - just emnail me back.

Sharon,

Do you know of an E.N.T. or a doctor of audiology you could suggest for her?
Also it sounds like she may be suffering from what Barrett Dorko calls an
"abnormal neurodynamic". Mr. Dorko is a P.T., poet and prolific writer with
a very interesting web site at his name .com.

Sincerely,

Chancellor Mobley
