While working with Dr. Rolf and Rosemary on illustrations and Photo's for
"the book", she said, as bait, that she would rather train artists than Doctors.
The 3 doc's in the class took the bait and asked her to explain. She
proceeded with a dialogue about how artists are trained to see while doctors
are
trained to deduce, like detectives, and that, to do this work one needed to
get to the starting place,(as in, how do I get to Pittsburgh). She said that
Doctors had much to unlearn before they could get to the point where they
could change the way they were trained to think, in order to avail themselves
of
the way of thinking/being that would lead to an understanding of how to see
as a Rolfer. Not that a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology aren't
necessary as a way of visualising what lies beneath the skin. She talked about
how the map aint the territory and how "modern" medicine is still
reductionist at best. I never heard her make explicit reference to the
possibility that
the ten series included her understanding of relativity and the so called
quantum reality, but because there was a lot of conversation at Esalen about
how understanding the quantum reality changes one's view of everything, it
seemed to be a given. Over the years, as I have read what I could about modern
physics, I know that, at that time, I had little understanding of the vastness
of all that is included in the quantum field. From the point of view of an
artist who can make virtually anything appear in 2 D, I have become aware of
how we are all living within a field of infinite possibility. This is the
artists paradox. If at any given moment, anything is possible, then, when "the
client" enters the room they are a representation of this field. Given that,
where do I start when attempting to intervene into their individuation of the
human condition. I'm grateful to Dr. Rolf for creating the ten series as a
place to start.
