Maybe I have too much time on my hands.
I understand that in Latin, dura mater means "hard mother".
So, what would be the soft mother, the meninges?

Nahh.."meninges" means "membrane" and consists of the dura (hard), pia (pios) and arachnoid...there is no soft mother..go figure. [Non-text portions of this...

I thought pia mater was 'soft mother' - as in pianoforte (soft / loud), and of course arachnoid is for spider web-like tom m ... Thomas Myers 318 Clarks Cove...

I read somewhere that "pia" meant "pious". The dictionary tells me that it is Latin for "tender". I apologize. My mother/feminine rage may have inadvertently...
