Hello Mommies and Daddies!
There's a nip in the air - we hope you're staying warm. It's
certainly wintertime - Max and I had a wonderful afternoon hike at
Alviso's Marina and Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, staying until after
sunset. Some of you may recall Alviso's late afternoon winds,
indicative of summer days there, when the water temperature is so far
below the land's temperature that the winds really kick up! This
time of year, the ground and water temperatures differ far less, so
the wind is very mild. We enjoyed tromping around the lovely
renovated piers at Alviso's marina, stopping to listen for frogs,
look for footsteps in the marshy mud, and marvel at the train rushing
by regularly. This last hike was even better with the spectacle of
the sun setting and painting the hills and sky rosy hues. Our
Thursday afternoon hikes will now be postoned until February, when
the sun sets much later; some of you may recall hiking with us a week
or two later last year, but if you'd been with us that late, you'll
recall the crazy hustle to make it outside of Rancho San Antonio
before they locked the gates!
Loren and little Angelo are leading their first jog (with walkers
welcome!) this Tuesday, in SW San Jose at Almaden Lake. It's an
earlier-morning event, but perhaps the time works well for you!
Loren wants to offer her events each week, if this week goes well.
Please reply to the poll if you plan to come to any of this week's
events.
Monday, November 10th at 9:30 am we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio in
Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. Depending on the needs of the group, we'll
do an almost entirely paved, flat path, or a hilly dirt path, both
going to the farm, and possibly going past it. Meet at the upper
parking lot where model airplanes are flown (just past the entrance,
turn right, then left into the first parking area uphill from the
lower two). For more information or directions, see the Rancho San
Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded.
Amy and little Adelina will lead this hike. Call Amy at 650-207-6556
if you're running late.
Tuesday, November 11th at 8:30 am Loren and little Angelo will lead a
mellow stroller jog around Almaden Lake and down Los Alamitos Trail.
Meet at the water dragon by the big playground near the bathrooms and
swimming beach in the main parking lot near the intersection of
Coleman Avenue and Almaden Expressway. Note that this is a different
parking lot for the lake than we usually use to begin hikes. No dogs
allowed! Jogging strollers are best, but this is an entirely paved
trail, so smaller-wheeled strollers are also OK. Walkers always
welcome! For more information about the area or directions, see The
Los Alamitos Creek Trail Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosAlamitos/LosAlamitos.html). If
you're running late, call Loren at 831-227-6737.
Wednesday, November 12th at 10 am Kristen and little Lillian will
lead a hike at Stanford Dish, beginning from the bridge just beyond
the parking area at Piers Lane and Alpine Road. Any baby transport
works, but small wheeled strollers may have to be lifted over the two
small cattle guards (a distance of about 3 feet each). Sorry, no dogs
allowed. For information on this area or directions, see The Stanford
Dish Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StanfordDish/StanfordDish.html).
If you're running late, call Kristen at 408-410-7200.
Thursday, November 13th at 9 am Jennifer and her little one will be
leading a hike around Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail. Meet
by the kiosk by the bridge in Campbell Park, located at the corner of
Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue. The path is entirely paved, so
any baby transport will work. Jennifer comes with over a decade of
experience leading nature hikes, so come ready to learn a little
about the flora and fauna of the area. For directions and more
information about the trail, see the Los Gatos Creek Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html).
If you're running late, call Jennifer at (408) 470-0463.
Stay toasty warm!
