Hello Mommies and Daddies!
Max's costume is just one stripe away from being done (he's a zebra
this year) and we've started to get out our bats, ghosts, cobwebs,
and pumpkin, for the end-of-the-month festivities. It's been a treat
to do urban walks, hikes, and runs lately - if you join Amy Monday
along the greenbelt in Sunnyvale, you'll see (and hear) why, when
your wee one gets excited about the house decor visible this time of
year. Even more rural hikes and bike rides are a treat, with
nature's palette becoming more pronounced with yellows, oranges,
reds, and browns.
Melissa is moving the start time of her Friday bike rides to 4:30 pm,
due to the positive response about this time slot. She has a
conflict with the more popular Tuesday afternoon slot, but may move
rides to this time later in the year - I'll keep you posted. If
you're planning on riding with Melissa, please give her a quick phone
call to confirm - her number is posted along with her events below
and at strollerhikes.com.
Monday, October 20th at 9:30 am we'll meet at John W Christian
Greenbelt. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed walk / jog along
the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. Dogs
allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-paced walk/run. We'll
take a break around the halfway point for the trip, to play at the
large playground for toddlers, along the greenbelt. Meet at the
pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and San Junipero Drive (the
bridge is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). Here is a Mapquest Map of the
Starting Location
(http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/).
For more information about the trail, see the John W
Christian Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
Wednesday, October 22nd at 10 am at Crystal Springs. This is an
entirely paved trail (well, I doubt it if we'll make it to the short
gravel section connecting to San Andreas Trail near mile 6) so all
strollers work fine. Plenty of benches and port-o-potties along the
way, and a nice picnic area with water near the 3.5 mile mark (if we
make it that far). For information about the hike or directions, see
Crystal Springs Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/CrystalSprings/CrystalSprings.html
). Meet at the benches just inside the gate at Crystal Springs Rd and
Syline Blvd. Amy and little James and wee Sadie will lead this hike;
if you're running late, call Amy at 408-368-7161.
Wednesday, October 22nd at 3:30 pm come out for a bike ride at
Stevens Creek Trail! Lisa and Samuel will lead a ride down the wide,
paved path to Shoreline Park. Meet at Creekside Park off of Easy
Street in Mountain View. For directions or more information about the
trail, see The Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
The ride will last up to one hour, including play time for a
break at Shoreline Park or Creekside Park.
Thursday, October 23rd at 4:30 pm we'll hike at Sanborn County Park
along the Lake Ranch Trail. This is a 3.5 mile trail out and back to
a lake. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Meet at the small roadside parking
spot off of Black (Mountain) Road 4 miles up to Skyline from its
junction with Hwy 17 (I recommend taking Hwy 17 to get there - should
be faster than doing Skyline unless you live in the hills). This hike
is a very serene, mild one, suitable for all kinds of strollers.
Debbie will lead this hike with little Max; call 650-776-1082 if
you're running late. For more information about the trail and area,
see the Sanborn-Skyline Park Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/SanbornSkyline/SkylineSanborn.html
).
Friday, October 24th at 4:30 pm -- new time! come out for a bike ride
at Steven's Creek Trail in Mountain View, beginning from the Dana
Street entrance adjacent to the elementary school grounds. Parking in
the school lot is restricted while school is in session, but there is
a lot of street parking in the area. The path is a two-lane paved
one, so all bike transport modes will work. Melissa and Maxwell will
lead the ride to Shoreline Park. They will stop at Easy Street's
Creekside Park on the way back, to give the kids a break to play. The
ride will last about 1.5 hours. For directions to Dana Street's
trailhead or information about the trail, see the Stevens Creek Trail
Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Call Melissa at 650-224-5461 to let her know if you're
coming, and if you're running late.
