Hello Mommies and Daddies!
We just finished a lovely run along Stevens Creek Trail. Cool, crisp
weather with plenty of people and dogs out and about. My 3rd
marathon is next Sunday, and Max will be there to cheer me on, just
as he does on (shorter) runs, yelling, "faster, mom, faster!"
Running, hiking, biking, and swimming with my wee one has been
inspirational on many levels, not only as a way to motivate my
fitness training, but to instill in him a value for getting outside
and being active. We hope you're finding the same success in your
lives!
Melissa wants to know if any of the following times work better for
biking, as attendance out to Friday morning rides has been sparse.
Tuesday 3:30 pm
Tuesday 4:30 pm
Friday 3:30 pm
Friday 4:30 pm
Please respond to the upcoming poll to indicate interest. If you've
been planning to try biking, but need some advice about gear and
preparation, see www.strollerhikes.com and click on the Bike button
at the top of the window. Also don't forget to let us know if you're
interested in other events this week, in the poll that will be going
out - this helps us plan ahead! Note that Thursday's hike has been
cancelled (so I can pick up my bib number for the marathon).
Here are this week's events:
Monday, October 13th at 9:30 am we'll hike Los Alamitos Creek Trail.
The path is entirely paved, so any strollers or baby transport will
work. We may linger afterwards play in the playground, visit with the
ducks, or have a snack on the nice, green lawn. Meet by the play
ground next to the Bocce Ball Court, near the entrance gate. Dogs are
welcome, and this is a toddler-friendly path that is great for new
tricycle or bicycle riders. For more information or directions, see
the Los Alamitos Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/LosAlamitos/LosAlamitos.html). Be sure
to follow the directions at the website, as there are two entrances
to the park, and we're meeting at the side that allows dogs. If they
are charging for parking and you don't want to pay, park along the
street just outside the park entrance and walk in. Amy and little
Adelina will lead this hike.
Wednesday, October 15th at 10 am we'll hike at Shoreline Park and
Emily Renzel Wetlands in Mountain View/Palo Alto. The trail is paved,
so it's great for all strollers or kid carriers. Meet at the lake
next to where the sailboats are kept (to the right of the cafe /
bathrooms building) in Shoreline Park. There are plenty of play
structures and a beach for toddlers - we'll stop to play after the
hike! Sorry, no dogs allowed. For information about the park and
directions, see Shoreline Park Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Shoreline/Shoreline.html) and
Emily Renzel/Byxbee Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Byxbee/Byxbee.html). Kristen and
Lillian will lead this hike. If you're running late, call Kristen at
408-410-7200.
Wednesday, October 15th at 3:30 pm come out for a bike ride at
Stevens Creek Trail! Lisa and Samuel will lead a ride down the wide,
paved path to Shoreline Park. Meet at Creekside Park off of Easy
Street in Mountain View. For directions or more information about the
trail, see The Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
The ride will last up to one hour, including play time for a
break at Shoreline Park or Creekside Park.
Thursday, October 16th the hike has been cancelled.
Friday, October 17th at 10 am come out for a bike ride at Steven's
Creek Trail in Mountain View, beginning from the Dana Street entrance
adjacent to the elementary school grounds. Parking in the school lot
is restricted while school is in session, but there is a lot of
street parking in the area. The path is a two-lane paved one, so all
bike transport modes will work. Melissa and Maxwell will lead the
ride to Shoreline Park. They will stop at Easy Street's Creekside
Park on the way back, to give the kids a break to play. The ride will
last about 1.5 hours. For directions to Dana Street's trailhead or
information about the trail, see the Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Call Melissa at 650-224-5461 if you're running late.
