Hello Mommies and Daddies!
The rain seems to have refreshed everything around us. We just got
back from a rather damp dirt bike camping trip in the Sierras, with
much discussion with Max about rain, fish, dirt, puddles, and
plants. It was great, filthy fun, but we're glad to be back amongst
water heaters and water-tight roofs.
Remember that with the new season, dressing in layers becomes
important, as does reading the weather. Hikes will be cancelled if
heavy rain is likely, and bike rides will likely be cancelled if
there is any rain at all (wind at speeds makes any damp bodies quite
cold). E-mail(s) will be sent if hikes are cancelled, but remember
that you can always call leaders personally, if you want to check in
about an event.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, October 6th at 9:30 am we'll meet at John W Christian
Greenbelt. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed walk / jog along
the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. Dogs
allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-paced walk/run. We'll
take a break around the halfway point for the trip, to play at the
large playground for toddlers, along the greenbelt. Meet at the
pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and San Junipero Drive (the
bridge is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). Here is a Mapquest Map of the
Starting Location
(http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/).
For more information about the trail, see the John W
Christian Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
If you're running late, call Amy at 650-207-6556.
Wednesday, October 8th at 10 am at Picchetti Open Space Preserve in
Cupertino. Meet at the trailhead entrance on the West side of the
parking lot (also the entrance to the winery). The trail is dirt on
some rolling hills, but it gets narrow in spots, so a front carrier
or backpack are best, but a jogger will work for most of the trail.
Bring a few bucks (I think $5) and we can linger afterwards for wine
tasting and snacks. For more information or directions, see the
Picchetti Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Pichetti/Pichetti.html). Kristen
and Lillian will lead this hike. If you're running late, call Kristen
at 408-410-7200.
Wednesday, October 8th at 3:30 pm come out for a bike ride at Stevens
Creek Trail! Lisa and Samuel will lead a ride down the wide, paved
path to Shoreline Park. Meet at Creekside Park off of Easy Street in
Mountain View. For directions or more information about the trail,
see The Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
The ride will last up to one hour, including play time for a
break at Shoreline Park or Creekside Park.
Thursday, October 9th at 4:30 pm we'll hike at Ulistac Natural Area
and Guadalupe Levee in Santa Clara. The trail is suitable for a large-
wheeled stroller or jogger, or a backpack or carrier (small-wheeled
strollers will not work well). Dogs allowed! Meet in the parking lot
of James Lick Park off of James Lick Road, which is across from the
natural area. We may linger afterwards to play in the huge
playground, or take a break at one of the playgrounds along the way.
For more information or directions, see Ulistac and Guadalupe Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Ulistac/Ulistac.html). Debbie and
little Max will lead this hike. If you're running late, call Debbie
at 650-776-1082.
Friday, October 10th at 10 am come out for a bike ride at Steven's
Creek Trail in Mountain View, beginning from the Dana Street entrance
adjacent to the elementary school grounds. Parking in the school lot
is restricted while school is in session, but there is a lot of
street parking in the area. The path is a two-lane paved one, so all
bike transport modes will work. Melissa and Maxwell will lead the
ride to Shoreline Park. They will stop at Easy Street's Creekside
Park on the way back, to give the kids a break to play. The ride will
last about 1.5 hours. For directions to Dana Street's trailhead or
information about the trail, see the Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Call Melissa at 650-224-5461 if you're running late.
