Hello Mommies and Daddies!
Fall is almost here - just a couple more days of summer! We hope
you've been enjoying the weather; the cooler weather and shorter days
have been making bedtime much easier for us. We've also been enjoying
the subtle changes of the season - colors of leaves, fluffy clouds in
the morning, and the maturing of apples in the trees.
As you may recall, bike rides began last week. I posted some pictures
Melissa took from Friday's ride. She said the weather was great and
that she and Maxwell enjoyed seeing construction vehicles aplenty,
listening for the echoes of their bells in the tunnels, and slurping
water from the drinking fountains near Shoreline Park. Bike rides
continue this week, along Stevens Creek Trail to Shoreline Park,
Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. More information is printed
below.
Please remember to respond to the poll about this week's events so
event leaders can anticipate who might come and we can get a sense of
interest in each event, for future planning purposes. Melissa is
considering moving the Friday bike rides a little earlier in the day
(9:30 am), if that appears to be of interest, so I added a question
about that in the poll.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, September 22nd at 9:30 am we'll meet at John W Christian
Greenbelt. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed walk / jog along
the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. Dogs
allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-paced walk/run. We'll
take a break around the halfway point for the trip, to play at the
large playground for toddlers, along the greenbelt. Meet at the
pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and San Junipero Drive (the bridge
is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). Here is a Mapquest Map of the Starting
Location
(http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/).
For more information about the trail, see the John W Christian
Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
If you're running late, call Amy at 650-207-6556.
Wednesday, September 24th at 10 am we'll hike at Windy Hill in Portola
Valley. Meet in the lot on Alpine Rd, about 1 mile Southwest beyond the
junction with Portola Rd. Baby carriers or backpacks are best. Kristen
and little Lillian will lead this hike; Kristen's cell # is 408-410-
7200. For more information or directions, see the Windy Hill Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/WindyHill/WindyHill.html).
Wednesday, September 24th at 3:30 pm come out for a bike ride at
Stevens Creek Trail! Lisa and Samuel will lead a ride down the wide,
paved path to Shoreline Park. Meet at Creekside Park off of Easy Street
in Mountain View. For directions or more information about the trail,
see The Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
The ride will last up to one hour, including play time for a
break at Shoreline Park or Creekside Park. If you're running late,
call Lisa at 650-892-8678.
Thursday, September 25th at 9 am Jennifer and her little one will be
leading a hike around Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail. Meet by
the kiosk by the bridge in Campbell Park, located at the corner of
Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue. The path is entirely paved, so any
baby transport will work. Jennifer comes with over a decade of
experience leading nature hikes, so come ready to learn a little about
the flora and fauna of the area. For directions and more information
about the trail, see the Los Gatos Creek Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html).
If you're running late, call Jennifer at (408) 470-0463.
Thursday, September 25th at 4:30 pm at Picchetti Open Space Preserve in
Cupertino. Meet at the trailhead entrance on the West side of the
parking lot (also the entrance to the winery). The trail is dirt on
some rolling hills, but it gets narrow in spots, so a front carrier or
backpack are best, but a jogger will work for most of the trail. Bring
a few bucks (I think $5) and we can linger afterwards for wine tasting
and snacks, if the hike doesn't go too late, or buy a bottle to bring
home for dinner. For more information or directions, see the Picchetti
Page (http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Pichetti/Pichetti.html).
Debbie and little Max will lead this hike - call Debbie at 650-776-1082
if you're running late.
Friday, September 26th at 10 am, we'll bike ride at Steven's Creek
Trail in Mountain View, beginning from the Dana Street entrance
adjacent to the elementary school grounds. Parking in the school lot is
restricted while school is in session, but there is a lot of street
parking in the area. The path is a two-lane paved one, so all bike
transport modes will work. Melissa and Maxwell will lead the ride to
Shoreline Park. They will stop at Easy Street's Creekside Park on the
way back, to give the kids a break to play. The ride will last about an
hour. For directions to Dana Street's trailhead or information about
the trail, see the Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Call Melissa at 650-224-5461 if you're running late.
Saturday, September 27th come find some deals at Mid-Peninsula Parents
of Multiples' annual garage sale. If you are a parent of multiples, are
planning for future children, or have more than one child, come to the
sale at Twin Pines Center in Belmont. The Center is located at 1225
Ralston Avenue in Belmont, and the sale will run from 9:30 am to noon,
open to the general public (open a half hour earlier for MPPM Members).
They'll have clothing, shoes, strollers, high chairs, toys, books,
videos, safety equipment, and more. They'll have a fenced play area for
the kids, and baked goods and coffee, as well. Cash is the preferred
mode of purchase.
Until October 31st on Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am until 5 pm at Tilden
Regional Park in Berkeley drop by the display of several of Jennifer
Snedeker's Nature-Inspired Quilts. Jennifer is a long-time artist and
environmental educator who leads one of our weekly hikes. You can visit
with Jennifer on October 4th from 2 to 4 pm, when a reception will be
held for the display. Tilden Regional Park is located at the North end
of Central Park Drive in Berkeley. Call 510-525-2233 for more
information about Tilden and the show, or visit East Bay Regional Park
Districts page about Tilden (http://www.ebparks.org/parks/vc/tna).
Enjoy the change in the seasons this week.
