Hello Mommies and Daddies!
Max and I made it out to the annual Moonlight Walk and Run at Palo
Alto Baylands on Friday. Weather was good, piles of people came out,
and we enjoyed all of the free goodies including flashlight-whistles,
snacks, tote bags, and stickers. Max enjoyed seeing the moon and
stars, all of the dogs, and lots of little kids. He happily told
Dad, "we won" afterwards, as we had met our goal of walking the 5K
without tears, injuries, or any trouble. Speaking of winners, we're
looking forward to seeing the Indianapolis MotoGP Race (happened
today, first time in several decades at that venue) to see how
Americans fare against the leading Italian, Australian, and Spaniard,
and Debbie is starting to think ahead to her 3rd marathon happening
in a little over a month in October... We hope that you're sizing up
some of your goals as well, to emerge as a winner.
Two new events are being added to our weekly events, and they're fast and fun!
Lisa and Samuel will be leading bike rides on Wednesday afternoons, and Melissa
and Maxwell will be leading Friday morning bike rides. We're still ironing out
details, so I'll update strollerhikes.com and everyone in the group as details
arise.
This week's events:
Monday, September 15th at 9:30 am we'll hike from Sunnyvale's
Baylands Park. Amy and little Adelina will lead this hike, which is
entirely paved, so any stroller will work! Meet next to the recycled
water test garden (take a left after entering the park). For more
information or directions, see the Baylands Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/BaylandsPark/BaylandsPark.html).
Parking costs money at the park, but if you'd like free parking, park
at the ball field next door (there's a dirt path leading from the
sidewalk coming from the ball field to the recycled water garden).
Running late? Give Amy a call at 650-207-6556. They'll likely
linger at one of the park's many play areas after the hike for some
swinging, sliding, or playing in the sand.
Wednesday, September 17th at 10 am we'll hike at Hidden Villa in Los
Altos Hills. Enjoy the largely shaded hikes with rolling hills in
this functioning farm that includes a tourable garden and animal
pens. Meet at the farm's parking lot near their visitor center. Bring
a suggested $5 donation for parking. Baby backpacks or carriers work
best for the hike; if you just want to see the farm, a jogging
stroller works fine and you'll be able to do the first part of the
creekside trail. Sorry, dogs not allowed. For directions or more
information, see the Hidden Villa Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/HiddenVilla/HiddenVilla.html).
Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike. Kristen's cell # is
408-410-7200 if you're running late.
Wednesday, September 17th at 3:30 pm, join Lisa and Samuel for a bike
ride! Location to be determined. Lisa and Samuel will lead this ride.
Thursday, September 18th at 9 am Jennifer and her little one will be
leading a hike around Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail. Meet
by the kiosk by the bridge in Campbell Park, located at the corner of
Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue. The path is entirely paved, so
any baby transport will work. Jennifer comes with over a decade of
experience leading nature hikes, so come ready to learn a little
about the flora and fauna of the area. For directions and more
information about the trail, see the Los Gatos Creek Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html).
If you're running late, call Jennifer at (408) 470-0463.
Thursday, September 18th at 4:30 pm we'll hike at Arastradero Park in
Palo Alto/Los Altos Hills. Meet in the main parking lot off of
Arastradero Rd. Baby joggers or backpacks/carriers will work for this
hike; we'll probably hike to the lake. For more information, see Bay
Area Hiker's Description of Arastradero
(http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/arastradero.html). Debbie and
little Max will lead this hike - call 650-776-1082 if you're running
late.
Friday, September 19th at 10 am, we'll bike ride at Steven's Creek
Trail in Mountain View, beginning from the Dana Street entrance
adjacent to the elementary school grounds. Parking in the school lot
is restricted while school is in session, but there is a lot of
street parking in the area. The path is a two-lane paved one, so all
bike transport modes will work. Melissa and Maxwell will lead the
ride to Shoreline Park. They will stop at Easy Street's Creekside
Park on the way back, to give the kids a break to play. The ride
will last about an hour. For directions to Dana Street's trailhead or
information about the trail, see the Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Call Melissa at 650-224-5461 if you're running late.
Sunday, September 21st come join Stroller Hikes and others for the
3rd Annual Family Picnic in support of Blossom Birth Services, a non-
profit in Palo Alto. The event is free and runs from 11 am to 2 pm in
Palo Alto's Mitchell Park (Palo Alto). Festivities include award-
winning Andy Z, a children's musician, plus ice cream for a sundae
bar. Bring a sack lunch and a blanket or chair and come to join in on
the fun. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for hundreds of
dollars in prizes, including sports gear, baby carriers, children
entertainment and education center certificates, pampering products
for mom, and more! For more information, see Blossom's Flier for the
Event (http://blossombirth.org/donate/campaigns_picnic.html).
Stroller Hikes is a sponsor of the event.
Hope to see you on a hike, ride, or at the picnic! Don't forget to use the poll
to indicate your interest in events!
