Hello Mommies and Daddies!
It's been hot lately, but I hear cool weather is on the horizon.
Despite the heat, Max and I hiked on Thursday afternoon with Chelsea
and Ryder; I think all others who planned to join us were smart not
to come. We had a great hike, but the heat wiped Chelsea and I out -
thank goodness for husbands that don't mind making dinner or at least
ordering out. A new rule is now in place. No hikes when weather is
above 95 degrees out. In recognition of the recent temperatures, I
rose at 5:30 this morning to make it to Los Gatos Creek Trail at dawn
for a long run (I'm training for my 3rd Marathon). Wow - a lot of
people were out. How inspiring to see all sorts of people getting
outside to exercise! We hope you're enjoying the Stroller Hikes
events as a way to exercise as well as socialize and learn a little about the
natural world around you.
Please recall that we're looking forward to RSVPs about intention to come on
hikes, so we can track popularity of times and locations. To RSVP, please use
the poll associated with this group at

Here are the upcoming events:
Monday, September 1st at 9:30 am no hike is scheduled. Enjoy your
Labor Day Holiday!
Wednesday, September 3rd at 10 am we'll hike at Sanborn-Skyline Park
just beyond old town Saratoga, off Sanborn Road. Meet in the first
parking lot past the ranger station where you check in and pay a day
use fee (six dollars?). The hike is suitable for baby
carriers/backpacks only. No dogs allowed. For directions and
information about the park, see Santa Clara County's Description of

Lillian will lead this hike; call Kristen at (408)410-7200 if you're
running late.
Thursday, September 4th at 9 am Jennifer and her little one will be
leading a hike around Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail. Meet
by the kiosk by the bridge in Campbell Park, located at the corner of
Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue. The path is entirely paved, so
any baby transport will work. Jennifer comes with over a decade of
experience leading nature hikes, so come ready to learn a little
about the flora and fauna of the area. For directions and more
information about the trail, see the Los Gatos Creek Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html).
If you're running late, call Jennifer at (408) 470-0463.
Thursday, September 4th at 4:30 pm at Fremont Older in the
Cupertino/Saratoga Hills. We'll hike Seven Springs Loop with a visit
to Hunter's Point. Dogs welcome. For more information about the area
and directions, see Fremont Older Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/FremontOlder/FremontOlder.html).
Meet at the Prospect Road parking lot. Baby carriers or backpacks
suggested, though a large-wheeled baby jogger works OK if you can
manage on hills. Debbie and little Max will lead this mostly shady
hike - call 650-776-1082 if you're running late.
More events on the horizon:
Friday, September 12th come out for the 24th Annual Moonlight Run and
Walk in Palo Alto! Stroller Hikes is not formally involved in this
activity. This is a well attended family-friendly activity sponsored
by Palo Alto Weekly. Several Stroller Hikes parents have attended
with their babies and toddlers in the past. The event takes place at
Palo Alto Baylands and Byxbee Park, along the wider and flatter
trails in the area. Water stops occur along the two courses; one 5K,
and the other a USAT&F certified 10K. Pre-registration is $20
including a bib number and a T-shirt while supplies last (after Sept
7 late registration is $25), and children 12 and under run free
(shirts for them are $10, with adult small being the smallest size).
For more information or to register online, see The Moonlight Walk
and Run Webpage (http://www.paloaltoonline.com/moonlight_run/). Max
and Debbie, Mimi and Lily, and other friends will be there to do the
5K Walk, which is early enough not to mess up bedtime too much!
Sunday, September 21st come join Stroller Hikes and others for the
3rd Annual Family Picnic in support of Blossom Birth Services, a non-
profit in Palo Alto. The event is free and runs from 11 am to 2 pm in
Palo Alto's Mitchell Park (Palo Alto). Festivities include award-
winning Andy Z, a children's musician, plus ice cream for a sundae
bar. Bring a sack lunch and a blanket or chair and come to join in on
the fun. Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for hundreds of
dollars in prizes, including sports gear, baby carriers, children
entertainment and education center certificates, pampering products
for mom, and more! For more information, see Blossom's Flier
(http://blossombirth.org/donate/campaigns_picnic.html) for the Event.
Stroller Hikes is a sponsor of the event.
Enjoy the Labor Day Weekend!
