Hello Mommies and Daddies!
With the school year starting up again, a lot of us have new freedoms
and obligations. As a teacher, this last week has been very busy!
With the new changes, Stroller Hikes' schedule changes as well;
Thursday 4 pm hikes will move to 4:30 to accomodate some working parents and
Biking Events will begin in
September, once school is well underway – more information to come.
If you're interested in starting up a new event, please let me know!
Along with these changes, we are reistituting RSVPs through this
yahoo group, so please RSVP if you're moderately certain that you are coming to
an event. We understand that no plans with a child are certain, but RSVPs will
help us track the popularity of certain event times and locations, as well as
help leaders know how many folks to expect. RSVPs will be through the Poll
Feature of the Yahoo Group; find the poll at

The 24th Annual Moonlight Run and Walk is coming up on Friday,
September 12th! This is a well attended family-friendly activity
sponsored by Palo Alto Weekly. Several parents have attended with
their babies and toddlers in the past. The event takes place at Palo
Alto Baylands and Byxbee Park, along the wider and flatter trails in
the area. Water stops occur along the two courses; one 5K, and the
other a USAT&F certified 10K. Pre-registration is $20 including a
bib number and a T-shirt while supplies last (after Sept 7 late
registration is $25), and children 12 and under run free (shirts for
them are $10, with adult small being the smallest size). For more
information or to register online, see
http://www.paloaltoonline.com/moonlight_run/ - Max and I, as well as
Mimi and Lily will be there to do the 5K Walk, which is early enough
not to mess up bedtime too much!
Also save Sunday, September 21st for the 3rd Annual Family Picnic in support of
Blossom Birth Services, a non-profit in Palo Alto. The event is free and runs
from 11 am to 2 pm in Palo Alto's Mitchell Park. Festivities include
award-winning Andy Z, a children's musician, plus ice cream for a sundae bar.
Bring a sack lunch and a blanket or chair and come to join in on the fun.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for hundreds of dollars in prizes,
including sports gear, baby carriers, children entertainment and education
center certificates, pampering products for mom, and more! For more
information, see Blossom's Flier for the Event
(http://blossombirth.org/donate/campaigns_picnic.html).
Another big event coming up, particularly if you are a parent of
multiple kids, is Mid-Peninsula Parents of Multiples' annual garage
sale. It is taking place on Saturday, September 27th at the Twin
Pines Center in Belmont. The Center is located at 1225 Ralston
Avenue in Belmont, and the sale will run from 9:30 am to noon, open
to the general public. They'll have clothing, shoes, strollers, high
chairs, toys, books, videos, safety equipment, and more. They'll
have a fenced play area for the kids, and baked goods and coffee, as
well. Cash is the preferred mode of purchase.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, August 25th at 9:30 am we'll meet at John W Christian
Greenbelt in Sunnyvale. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed
walk / jog along the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and
Santa Clara. Dogs allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-
paced walk/run. Meet at the pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and
San Junipero Drive (the bridge is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). Here
is a Mapquest Map of the Starting Location
(http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/).
For more information about the trail, see the John W
Christian Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
If you're running late, give Amy a call at 650-207-6556.
Wednesday, August 27th at 10 am at Fremont Older in
Saratoga/Cupertino. We'll hike Seven Springs Loop with a visit to
Hunter's Point. Dogs welcome. For more information about the area and
directions, see Fremont Older Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/FremontOlder/FremontOlder.html).
Meet at the Prospect Road parking lot. Baby carriers or backpacks
suggested, though a large-wheeled baby jogger works OK if you can
manage on hills. Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike; call
Kristen at (408)410-7200 if you're running late.
Thursday, August 28th at 9 am Jennifer and her little one will be
leading a hike around Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail
(Campbell/San Jose). Meet by the kiosk by the bridge in Campbell
Park, located at the corner of Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue.
The path is entirely paved, so any baby transport will work. Jennifer
comes with over a decade of experience leading nature hikes, so come
ready to learn a little about the flora and fauna of the area. For
directions and more information about the trail, see the Los Gatos
Creek Page.(
http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html).
If you're running late, call Jennifer at (408) 470-0463.
Thursday, August 28th at 4:30 pm we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio.
Depending on the needs of the group, we'll do an almost entirely
paved, flat path, or a hilly dirt path, both going to the farm, and
possibly going past it. Meet at the upper parking lot where model
airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right, then left
into the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For more
information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded.
Debbie and little Max will lead this hike. All baby transport modes
work fine. If you're running late, call Debbie at 650-776-1082.
Hope to see you outside soon!
