Hello Mommies and Daddies!
We're off for the 2nd Annual Stroller Hikes camping trip this weekend,
near the beach, at Memorial County Park. Woo hoo! The car is packed
and we're ready to play in the swimming hole and sand, swing in a
hammock, and tromp around in the woods. If you want to join us this
weekend for hikes or beach time, give me a call at (650) 776-1082.
We'll be planning two big events each day. We also have space for a
few families to join us for Saturday night camping; please call me if
you're interested. Saturday, we'll hike in Memorial Park and possibly
connect up to Samuel Taylor Park, beginning at 10 am or so. We'll also
plan a trip to Fitzgerald Marine Reserve to look at the tidepools and
play in the sand, around 3 pm. Sunday, we'll do another hike at
Memorial Park and Samuel Taylor Park at 10-ish, and possible visit San
Gregario Beach after breaking down camp, around 3. Other time will be
spent lazing around camp, playing at the swimming hole, and socializing
with other families.
Here are next week's events:
Monday, August 4th at 11:30 am - new time! we'll hike Crissy Field and
Fort Point areas in San Francisco. Meet just outside the front door to
The Warming Hut near the West Bluff Picnic Area at the West end of
Mason Street at 11:30 am. All types of strollers and baby transport
will work, and dogs are welcome. Bring a jacket and hat in case the fog
rolls in! Food can be purchased at The Warming Hut for those needing
lunch. We may play on the beach if the weather is good. For directions
or details about the hike, see Crissy Field and Fort Point Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/CrissyField/CrissyField.html). No
shade on this hike, but it's not likely that it will be clear; San
Francisco is often cloudy. Amy will lead this hike with little Adelina.
Call Amy if you're running late, at (650) 207-6556.
Wednesday, August 6th at 10 am meet at Duveneck Windmill Area in Los
Altos Hills. This is the "backdoor" to Rancho San Antonio, which opens
up to the park on its hilly side, with some lovely grassland and views
of Black Mountain. The trails are wide enough for a large-wheeled
stroller, but the hiking will be steep, so a backpack or child carrier
are suggested. To get there, take the El Monte/Moody Road exit off of
280, and drive West. At the stop sign at the intersection with the fire
station by Foothill College, turn left onto Moody. A little over 1/2 of
a mile later, turn left onto Rhus Ridge. The parking lot is on the
right in about 0.2 miles. You'll notice that this park entrance is near
Hidden Villa, with Hidden Villa's land coming adjacent to Rancho San
Antonio. For more information or a map, see Bay Area Hiker's
Description (http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/ranchoduveneck.html)
and Rancho San Antonio's Map
(http://www.openspace.org/preserves/maps/pr_rancho_san_antonio.pdf).
Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike. If you're running late,
call Kristen at 408-410-7200.
Thursday, August 7th at 4:30 pm Melissa and little Maxwell will lead a
hike at Rancho San Antonio. Depending on the needs of the group, we'll
do an almost entirely paved, flat path, or a hilly dirt path; any baby
transport will work. Meet at the upper parking lot where model
airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right, then left into
the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For more information
or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded. If
you're running late, call Melissa at 650-224-5461.
Enjoy the weekend!
