Hello Mommies and Daddies!
Max and I just got back from a very insightful and amusing weekend
outing to Sulfur Creek Nature Center in Hayward, with Maya and Carter
(two of the original StrollerHikers from 2006). We got to pet a
hamster, chinchilla, duck, lizard, and several snakes - cool! I'll
post that and a link for Fairyland, also recommended by Maya, on the
StrollerHikes Recommendations page, which is full of great stuff
recommended by StrollerHikes parents. To get there, visit
www.strollerhikes.com and click on the Share Ideas button on the top
right of the window - you'll notice that StrollerHikes' layout has
changed for the better! If you have recommendations, please let me
know.
This week's events:
Monday, July 14th at 9:30 am we'll hike at Shoreline Park. The trail is
paved, so it's great for all strollers or kid carriers. Meet at the
lake next to where the sailboats are kept (to the right of the cafe /
bathrooms building). There are plenty of play structures and a beach
for toddlers! Sorry, no dogs allowed. For information about the park
and directions, see Shoreline Park Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Shoreline/Shoreline.html). Amy and
little Adelina will lead this hike.
Wednesday, July 16th at 10 am at Water Dog Lake, meet in the lot off
Hallmark Dr. To get there from Interstate 280 in San Mateo County, exit
CA 92 East (exit 33). Drive east and exit Ralston (exit 9a). Drive east
about 1 mile, and turn right onto Hallmark Drive. Continue a short
distance downhill and take the first left onto Lake Road (a dead end).
Park on the side of the road before the gate. Baby carriers or
backpacks are best. Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike.
Kristen's cell # is 408-410-7200 if you're running late. For more
information, see Bay Area Hiker's description of the Hike
(www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/waterdog.html) or Belmont's Map of the
Area (see www.strollerhikes.com/Events.html). Dogs welcome!
Thursday, July 17th at 4 pm at Fitzgerald Marine Preserve near Moss
Beach. It might feel like quite a distance to travel, but we'll shoot
for low-commute hours to speed up the journey and low tide (predicted
at 4:45 pm), to made it worth your while to stay. This area is well
known for its tide pools and wildlife. The hike is very short, but the
beach visit will be quite worthwhile! Debbie and little Max will lead
this hike. Dogs not allowed. Baby carrier and sturdy sandals or
sneakers for rock hopping (plus a change in the car if you get wet)
recommended. We may take a slow drive back if the weather is dynamite,
and have dinner at the coast. For directions and information about the
area, see Bay Area Hiker's Webpage on Fitzgerald MP
(www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/fitzgerald.html) and San Mateo County's
Webpage on Fitzgerald MP (see www.strollerhikes.com/Events.html).
Friday, July 18th at 9 am we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio. Depending
on the needs of the group, we'll do an almost entirely paved, flat
path, or a hilly dirt path, both going to the farm. Meet at the upper
parking lot where model airplanes are flown (just past the entrance,
turn right, then left into the first parking area uphill from the lower
two). For more information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio
Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded.
Sharisse and little Chase will lead this hike.
Plan ahead - camping! We're still camping August 1st thru 3rd at
Memorial Park near Pescadero. I've heard confirmation from some of
you; please confirm if you plan to join us. See this prior group
messages for more information:

Enjoy the cooler weather!
