Hello Mommies and Daddies!
With all of the smoke in the air, I've been having some wild
recollections of my forest fire fighter days (summers 1992 - 1994).
Max is really intrigued by fire, so we've been talking all about
smoke, fuels, extinguishing fires, and fire science. It's amazing
how quickly he puts together those concepts. If it weren't for the
smoke, we'd head out to Big Sur or Napa to see more of what's
happening there - sure, we shy from the smoke exposure a fair amount,
but it's absolutely fascinating to see how fire impacts the
environment.
As you can see if you visit the events list at StrollerHikes at
http://www.strollerhikes.com/Events.html we're exploring some new
trails! You'll see some tried and true trails as well as some new
ones. Very exciting! We hope you can come out to try some of these
new locations with us. We had a great visit to Ardenwood Farms in
Fremont (just at the end of the Dumbarton Bridge) last week - I hope
to get some new hikes/locations up next week, and you may begin to
notice some other programmed differences to the website. This week
we cover the full North to South range for StrollerHikes - wow! We
hope to add more in the East this summer, as well; let me know where
you're favorite East Bay spots are - Chabot and Sunol are in the
works.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, June 30th at 11:30 am, we'll hike Crissy Field and Fort Point
areas in San Francisco. Meet just outside the front door to The
Warming Hut near the West Bluff Picnic Area at the West end of Mason
Street at 1:30 pm. All types of strollers and baby transport will
work, and dogs are welcome. Bring a jacket and hat in case the fog
rolls in! A spare outfit is also wise, if we play on the beach and
get wet/sandy. Food can be purchased at The Warming Hut for those
needing lunch. For directions or details about the hike, see Crissy
Field and Fort Point Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/CrissyField/CrissyField.html). No
shade on this hike, but it's not likely that it will be clear; San
Francisco is often cloudy or foggy. Amy will lead this hike with
little Adelina. Her phone number is 650-207-6556 if you're running
late.
Wednesday, July 2nd at 10 am at Fremont Older. We'll hike Seven
Springs Loop with a visit to Hunter's Point. Dogs welcome. For more
information about the area and directions, see Fremont Older Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/FremontOlder/FremontOlder.html).
Meet at the Prospect Road parking lot. Baby carriers suggested,
though a large-wheeled baby jogger works OK. Kristen and little
Lillian will lead this hike; call Kristen at (408)410-7200 if you're
running late.
Thursday, July 3rd at 4:30 pm at Uvas Canyon County Park. Debbie and
little Max will lead this tranquil hike through forests with
waterfalls. Dogs allowed on leash. Bring a sack dinner and linger
after we're done, perhaps to check out the nearby Swedish community
of Sveadal. We'll check this out as an option for camping, too (for
our annual camping trip later). For directions and information, see
The Bay Area Hiker Webpage on Uvas
(http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/uvas.html). If you're running
late or would like to carpool, call Debbie at 650-776-1082.
Friday, July 4th at 9 am at Villa Montalvo. Debbie and little Max
will lead this hike, which will be short and easy. No dogs allowed.
Some of the hike is paved, and some is dirt, so a jogger or baby
carrier/backpack are recommended. Much of the hike is shaded. Park in
Lot #2 and meet in front of the Villa. For information about the
area, see Bay Area Hiker's Webpage for Villa Montalvo
(http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/montalvo.html) or Santa Clara
County Information on the Park
(http://www.sccgov.org/SCC/docs/Parks%20and%20Recreation,%20Department%20of%20(D\
EP)/attachments/41975montalvo.pdf). Debbie and little Max will
lead this hike; call 650-776-1082 if you're running late.
Enjoy the summer!
