Hello Mommies and Daddies!
It's been a real scorcher lately, made even more hot-to-handle due
to the stillness of air and failure to cool off every night. We've
discovered the fantastic nature of ice and water play, and moved
bathtime up, to accomodate the heat.
Some of you were curious what came of last week's forum;
StrollerHikes will attempt to go non-profit. I sent our first
government document to the state last week, with a check to reserve
our corporate name. Articles of Incorporation have been drafted, and
I'm working on Bylaws and Tax Exemption Forms, to be submitted as
soon as we get cleared by the state to be incorporated and establish
a board. Woo hoo! A bit of work, but well worth the trouble, it was
decided! If you're interested in helping, I will be soliciting for
board members very soon. If not, delete that special message from
the group when you get it.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, June 23rd at 9:30 am we'll hike at John W Christian
Greenbelt. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed walk / jog along
the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. Dogs
allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-paced walk/run. Meet
at the pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and San Junipero Drive
(the bridge is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). A Mapquest Map of the
Starting Location can be found at
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/. For
more information about the trail, see the John W Christian
Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
Wednesday, June 25th at 10 am we'll hike at Picchetti Open Space
Preserve in Cupertino. Meet at the trailhead entrance on the West
side of the parking lot (also the entrance to the winery). The trail
is dirt on some rolling hills, but it gets narrow in spots, so a
front carrier or backpack are best. Bring a few bucks (I think $5)
and we can linger afterwards for wine tasting and snacks (an early
lunch). For more information or directions, see the Picchetti Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Pichetti/Pichetti.html). Kristen
and little Lillian will lead this hike. Kristen's cell # is 408-410-
7200 if you're running late.
Thursday, June 26th at 2:30 pm (come on time, as they close at 4)
we'll visit Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont. The farm has historic
displays, live animals, and horse-drawn train! Bring some money for
admission (five dollars for adults, 4 dollars for children over the
age of four). This will not be a strenuous hike, but will be suitable
for toddlers or older children. We'll visit all the park has to
offer, following the roads and trails in the park to the three
fields, orchard, gardens, barn and farmyard, and of course the train!
For more information, see The East Bay Parks Website for Ardenwood
(http://www.ebparks.org/parks/ardenwood) or The Ardenwood Map
(http://www.ebparks.org/files/EBRPD_files/brochure/ardenwood_map.pdf).
To get to the farm, take Hwy 84 (Dumbarton Bridge) to Fremont, then
take the Newark/Ardenwood Street exit, turning to drive onto
Ardenwood. Look for the park entrance shortly after at 34600
Ardenwood Street (Google Map for Ardenwood at

1082.
Friday, June 27th at 1:30 pm, we'll hike at Shoreline Park. The trail
is paved, so it's great for all strollers or kid carriers. Meet at
the lake next to where the sailboats are kept (to the right of the
cafe / bathrooms building). There are plenty of play structures and a
beach for toddlers! Sorry, no dogs allowed. For information about the
park and directions, see Shoreline Park Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Shoreline/Shoreline.html).
Sharisse and little Chase will lead this hike.
Still accepting interest for a summer camping trip - please let me
know if you'd like to join us for some car camping. I'm also
updating the hike calendar this week, so please let me know if you'd
like us to hike anywhere special closer to where you live or a place
we haven't ventured for a while/ever. You'll notice Ardenwood above -
somewhere new, recommended by Mimi and little Lilly!
