Hello Mommies and Daddies!
Erica e-mailed me this week to ask about camping advice and it
reminded me - we should all get out for the second annual
StrollerHikes camping trip! (Woo hoo!) The questions are, when and
where? As I warned Erica in my reply to her, sites fill up fast, so
these decisions are best made well in advance. I propose something
between Pt. Reyes and Big Basin and Anthony Chabot, sheltered and
with good hiking. Any other parameters needed? As we did last year,
a weekend will probably work best, with options for people to stay 1
or 2 nights. We can help you find gear if you need some, and we've
got lots of advice to share
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Camping/Camping.html). Please reply to
this e-mail if you're interested in camping with us and indicate your
preferences for time and location.
Susannah and little Indiana are no longer able to lead hikes on every
other Friday; would anyone else be interested? Time, day, and
location can be entirely up to you - your job would be to show up to
the hike and lead others. Please let me know if you're interested!
Thanks! (I'll lead Susannah's hikes until the end of the month, but
may alter times to work with Daycare/Max's schedule more.)
This week's events:
Monday, June 9th at 9:30 am let's hike at Stevens Creek Trail. The
hike will begin from Creekside Park in Mountain View. Diana and
little Taeva Rose will lead the hike. For more information, see
Stevens Creek Trail Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StevensCreekTrail/StevensCreekTrail.html).
Feel welcome to linger at the park before and after the hike
for some play and socialization!
Wednesday, June 11th at 11:30 am we'll hike at Hidden Villa. Enjoy
the largely shaded hikes with rolling hills in this functioning farm
that includes a tourable garden and animal pens. Meet at the farm's
parking lot near their visitor center. Bring a suggested $5 donation
for parking. Baby backpacks or carriers work best for the hike; if
you just want to see the farm, a jogging stroller works fine. Sorry,
dogs not allowed. For directions or more information, see Hidden
Villa Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/HiddenVilla/HiddenVilla.html).
Kristen and little Lillian will lead this hike. Kristen's cell # is
408-410-7200 if you're running late. Note - Hidden Villa may close
soon due to summer camps! Join Kristen and hike there while you can!
Thursday, June 12th at 4 pm we'll hike at John W Christian Greenbelt
and Calabazas Creek. Meet at trailhead on Hiddenlake Drive, near its
intersection with Greenlake Drive(this is a new starting location
just a block from Pestano Family Daycare). To get there, use
directions from mapquest
(http://www.mapquest.com/maps/%5B200-233%5D+Hiddenlake+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA+94089/),
or drive down Lakebird from
Lawrence Expressway (exit is only on expressway driving away from the
bay) about a block before the street ends; Turn left on Hiddenlake
until the obvious trail crossing. The entire path is paved, so all
types of baby transport will work. Dogs are allowed! There are parks
and play structures along the path. Debbie and little Max will lead
this hike. For more information or directions, see the Greenbelt Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
Debbie's cell # is 650-776-1082 if you're running late.
Friday, June 13th at 1:30 pm, Sharisse and little Chase will lead a
hike at Stanford Dish, beginning from the bridge just beyond the
parking area at Piers Lane and Alpine Road. Any baby transport works,
but small wheeled strollers may have to be lifted over the two small
cattle guards (a distance of about 3 feet each). Sorry, no dogs
allowed. For information on this area or directions, see The Stanford
Dish Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StanfordDish/StanfordDish.html).
Plan ahead:
We're having an informal forum on Tuesday, June 17th at 10 am, to
discuss the future of StrollerHikes (possibly becoming non-profit,
new features to the group/website). Please reply to this e-mail if
you're interested in attending, and I'll send you more information.
If you can't attend, but have some ideas/opinions, also feel free to
e-mail me.
Enjoy the weather!
-Debbie (and little Max)
