Hello Mommies and Daddies!
It's been wonderful weather for hiking - not too cold, not too hot!
We hope you've been getting out to enjoy nature as well as all of the
outdoor festivals that are happening this time of year. Enjoy the
trails while you can without too many crowds; this month schools let
out and with this, summer programs begin to close down some areas (like
Hidden Villa) and increase congestion in others. (But hoorah for youth
programs promoting nature and exercise!) Hiking earlier or later in
the day, or trying less known trails/parks are the best ways to avoid
the crowds.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, June 2nd at 1:30 pm, we'll meet at Alviso Marina and Don
Edwards Wildlife Refuge in Alviso. Come enjoy the range of birds, the
Bay breezes, and see the train! Meet at the Marina Parking lot. Bring a
carrier or a jogging stroller. Sorry, no dogs allowed. For directions
or more information about the area, see The Alviso / Don Edwards Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/Alviso/Alviso.html). Amy and little
Adelina will lead this hike.
Wednesday, June 4th at 11:30 am we'll hike at Arastradero. Meet in the main
parking lot off of Arastradero Rd. Baby carriers or backpacks are best. Kristen
and little Lillian will lead this hike. Kristen's cell # is 408-410-7200 if
you're running late. For more information, see Bay Area Hiker's Description of
Arastradero (http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/arastradero.html).
Thursday, June 5th at 4 pm, we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio. Depending
on the needs of the group, we'll do an almost entirely paved, flat
path, or a hilly dirt path. Meet at the upper parking lot where model
airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right, then left into
the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For more information
or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. If your toddler wants to ride a bike or
trike, we'll take the flat, paved trail. This hike is at least half
shaded. Debbie and little Max will lead this hike. If you're running
late, Debbie's cell # is 650-776-1082.
Friday, June 6th at 10:30 am Susannah and little Indiana will lead a
hike at Ryder Park to walk the lovely, paved Bay Trail. Beautiful views
of the bay, sailboats, windsurfers, and airplanes using the airport.
Also enjoy the nice picnic, dog play, and playground facilities. Hike
will commence from the playground adjacent to the entry parking area of
Ryder Park. Dogs welcome! For directions, see The Ryder/Seal
Point/Harborview/Coyote Point Parks Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RyderNSeal/RyderNSeal.html).
Susannah's cell # is 650-464-8659 if you're running late.
Plan ahead:
Do you have opinions about StrollerHikes and its future, potentially as
a non-profit business? Tuesday, June 17th at 10 am in Sunnyvale there
will be a forum about the future of StrollerHikes. Please reply to this e-mail
for further details if you are interested in attending, or to share your
ideas/opinions. Children welcome, but this will not be a hike. Snacks provided!

P.S. In case you're in the market for a baby carrier and didn't want to
spend a bundle, Anjali let me know she'd like to sell her Deuter
Kangakids Baby Carrier. I believe this is the same brand you can check
out at REI, which works for babies up to 33 pounds. It compresses to a
conventional backpack shape, which is neat. If you're interested,
contact Anjali at anjali_shah_desai@... - $60 or best offer. You can see
more info at http://www.childcarriers.com (search for Deuter Kangakid) including
specifications and some reviews. I usually would not advertise for products,
but I'm all for resale and reuse, and this might help some of you who've been
meaning to try a carrier for more rural hikes or summer events.
