Hello all!
With the wind whipping up a storm outside, it's nice to cozy up indoors where
it's still and quiet. By tomorrow, the world will be littered with plant
debris, and dozens of plants will have successfully had their seeds transplanted
by the wind to start new generations of flowers. Max and I look for "wish
flowers" (dandelions) regularly to blow seeds from, so I suppose the wind is
having a day filled with wishes!
My wish is that you might consider donating to Stroller Hikes so we can expand
our outreach and programming to reach more people and extend the message of
free, public resources; quality outdoor time, exercise, and education; and
healthy choices and routines. Please consider donating today. Stroller Hikes
costs about $15 per month to be hosted online, and has spent several hundreds of
dollars to obtain nonprofit status. We've appealed to several grant sources for
funding, but in these tough times, many of those sources are no longer feasible.
Imagine – just $15, and you can credit yourself with keeping Stroller Hikes
online for a whole month! You can safely and securely donate online by clicking
through one of the orange PayPal Donate buttons at http://www.strollerhikes.com
today – you do not need a PayPal account to donate.
Here are this week's events:
Monday, March 23rd at 10 am join Jennifer and little Kayla for a hike in
Campbell Park and Los Gatos Creek Trail. Meet by the kiosk by the bridge in
Campbell Park, located at the corner of Gilman Avenue and E Campbell Avenue.
The path is entirely paved, so any baby transport will work. For directions and
more information about the trail, see The Los Gatos Creek Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosGatosCreek/LosGatosCreek.html). This is
a Santa Clara County Healthy Trails outing (http://www.parkhere.org). If
you're running late, call Jennifer at 408-470-0463.
Tuesday, March 24th at 9 am Loren and little Angelo will lead a mellow stroller
jog around Almaden Lake and down Los Alamitos Trail. Meet at the water dragon
by the big playground near the bathrooms and swimming beach in the main parking
lot near the intersection of Coleman Avenue and Almaden Expressway. No dogs
allowed! Jogging strollers are best, but this is an entirely paved trail, so
smaller-wheeled strollers are also OK. Walkers always welcome! For more
information about the area or directions, see The Los Alamitos Creek Trail
Webpage(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosAlamitos/LosAlamitos.html). If
you're running late, call Loren at 831-227-6737.
No afternoon hike is scheduled for Tuesday.
Wednesday, March 25th at 9:30 am we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio in
Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. We'll do an almost entirely paved, flat path going to
the farm, and possibly go past it. The road is perfect for trikes or bikes, if
toddlers or young children want to ride. Any baby transport will work. Meet at
the main lower parking lot at the water fountain in front of the bathrooms(just
past the entrance, turn right, then follow the road until it ends). For more
information or directions, see The Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded. Lisa and little
Samuel will lead this hike. If you're running late, call Lisa at 650-892-8678.
Thursday, March 26th at 10 am come for a hike along the paved mineral springs
trail of Alum Rock Park for a little geology lesson and some history about this
old spa region of San Jose. Meet by the YSI building. All types of strollers
will work. For directions or more information about the area, see The Alum Rock
Park Page (http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/AlumRock/AlumRock.html). If
you're running late, call Jennifer at 408-470-0463.
Thursday, March 26th at 4:30 pm let's meet for a Toddler Trek at Uvas Canyon
County Park. Debbie and little Max will lead this tranquil hike through forests
with waterfalls. Toddlers will be encouraged to hike, run, and explore. There
are very nice wooden bridges to play on, and the water in the spring transforms
this valley into a magical place. We'll explore some of these changes, learning
to identify moss, lichens, and ferns, and looking for animals too. The park is
located at 8515 Croy Road in Morgan Hill. Bring a few dollars for parking. For
directions and information, see The Bay Area Hiker Webpage on Uvas
(http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/uvas.html). If you're running late, call
Debbie at 650-776-1082. This is a Santa Clara County Healthy Trails
(http://www.parkhere.org) outing.
Friday, March 27th at 10:30 am join Becky and her wee one for a brisk hike at
the Stanford Dish in Stanford/Palo Alto. Meet just inside the gate at the
Stanford Avenue/Junipero Serra Intersection. All baby transport works. For
more information about the trail or directions, see The Stanford Dish Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/StanfordDish/StanfordDish.html). If you're
running late, call Becky at 408-693-1842.
Please consider donating to keep Stroller Hikes going!
Thank you-
-Debbie and little Max
