Hello Mommies, Daddies, and wee ones!
This weekend's weather reminded us of why we love living in
California. We enjoyed runs, bike rides, and plenty of outdoor
time. We hope you were able to enjoy the weather as well. If you
didn't get out to any of our region's parks or natural open spaces
this weekend, you'll be pleased to note that several new Stroller
Hikes events are starting this week!
* Amy B. will be leading hikes at 1:30 pm on Tuesdays. She leads
down the beautiful Crystal Springs trail this week - come out to
check out the new buds on the trees and the emerging wildflowers,
alongside the beautiful blue reservoir.
* Lisa will be leading hikes at 9:30 am on Wednesdays at Rancho San
Antonio in Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. These events will be tricycle
and bike-friendly for those toddlers and young kids that might
otherwise be restless on a hike.
* Becky is thinking of leading a hike at the Stanford Dish at 10:30
am on Fridays. Before she commits, is anyone interested? Please
REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL to let us know (your reply will not go to the
whole group). I'll schedule her event for her as soon as I hear back
from enough folks...
Also watch out for plenty of new events - I'll be adding plenty to
the calendar for events past this week, tomorrow. This will include
some full-moon night hikes, toddler events, treks afar (coast and
East Bay) and more!
This week's events are below. Please be sure to reply to the poll
that will also be sent to you, so you can indicate if you plan on
coming out for any of them, so event leaders know to look out for you.
Monday, January 19th at 10 am we'll meet at John W Christian
Greenbelt. Amy and little Adelina will lead a speed walk / jog along
the lovely wide, paved greenbelt in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. Dogs
allowed but be sure they can manage on a faster-paced walk/run. We'll
take a break around the halfway point for the trip, to play at the
large playground for toddlers, along the greenbelt. Meet at the
pedestrian bridge on Ahwanee Avenue and San Junipero Drive (the
bridge is just NW of San Junipero Dr.). Here is a Mapquest Map of the
Starting Location:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Ahwanee+Ave+and+San+Junipero+Dr+Sunnyvale+CA/. For
more information about the trail, see the John W Christian
Greenbelt Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/GreenbeltSunnyvale/GreenbeltSunnyvale.html).
If you're running late, call Amy at 650-207-6556.
Tuesday, January 20th at 9 am Loren and little Angelo will lead a
mellow stroller jog around Almaden Lake and down Los Alamitos Trail.
Meet at the water dragon by the big playground near the bathrooms and
swimming beach in the main parking lot near the intersection of
Coleman Avenue and Almaden Expressway. No dogs allowed! Jogging
strollers are best, but this is an entirely paved trail, so smaller-
wheeled strollers are also OK. Walkers always welcome! For more
information about the area or directions, see The Los Alamitos Creek
Trail Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/LosAlamitos/LosAlamitos.html). If
you're running late, call Loren at 831-227-6737.
Tuesday, January 20th at 1:30 pm come for a hike at Crystal Springs.
This is an entirely paved trail (well, I doubt it if we'll make it to
the short gravel section connecting to San Andreas Trail near mile 6)
so all strollers work fine. Plenty of benches and port-o-potties
along the way, and a nice picnic area with water near the 3.5 mile
mark (if we make it that far). For information about the hike or
directions, see the Crystal Springs Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/CrystalSprings/CrystalSprings.html
). Meet at the benches just inside the gate at Crystal Springs Rd and
Syline Blvd. Amy and little James and wee Sadie will lead this hike;
if you're running late, call Amy at 408-368-7161.
Wednesday, January 21st at 9:30 am we'll hike at Rancho San Antonio
in Cupertino/Los Altos Hills. We'll do an almost entirely paved, flat
path going to the farm, and possibly go past it. The road is perfect
for trikes or bikes, if toddlers or young children want to ride. Any
baby transport will work. Meet at the upper parking lot where model
airplanes are flown (just past the entrance, turn right, then left
into the first parking area uphill from the lower two). For more
information or directions, see the Rancho San Antonio Page
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/RanchoSanAntonio/ranchoSanAntonio.html).
Sorry, dogs not allowed. This hike is at least half shaded.
Lisa and little Samuel will lead this hike. If you're running late,
call Lisa at 650-892-8678.
Thursday, January 22nd at 10 am come for a hike with Jennifer and her
wee one at Sanborn Park just beyond Saratoga. We'll look for newts,
slugs, and mushrooms! Meet outside the YSI building, marked very
clearly as you enter the park from Sanborn Road (the main park
entrance). Baby carriers or backpacks are best, if children are not
good walkers. After you pass the parking payment area, make your
first right and park in that parking lot. For directions or more
information about the area, see The Sanborn-Skyline Webpage
(http://www.strollerhikes.com/Hikes/SanbornSkyline/SkylineSanborn.html). If
you're running late, call Jennifer at 408-470-0463.
Enjoy the sun and blue skies!
