hello all,
my hubby and i have decided that we can no longer afford the rent
in the house that we are living in, and in order to catch up we are
going to be living in a trailor on my brothers property. it's kind
of small, but oh well!!! we asked the girls if they wanted to go
camping for a few months!!! hehe!! they were all excited. it will
be interesting. he lives in anza california, which is only about 1/2
hour away from where we live now. we will keep my older girl in
school where she is. we hope to move back into the area that we are
now, but we won't be able to unless i get disability.
our bills have just piled up, and we have to cut out a major
expense, and rent really is the only one that we have. it does get
cold up there. it's at 4500 ft, so we may even get some snow!! that
would be fun. we are going to be able to keep our dogs this way
too. we will have and 8 x 8 shed for them to live in , with a yard
around it. my brother has 18 acres , so we have lots of room. we
went up yesterday to check it out and to show the girls. they loved
it.
it has been a very difficult decision, but what else can we do?
i'd get mad at a.s. for this, but it is making our family closer and
stronger, so how can i get mad at that? don't get me wrong, i don't
really WANT to do this, but we HAVE to!!! we will make the best of
it. especially for the girls!!! i told them that santa was going to
be "practical" this year because he knows that we don't have the
space for things!! hehe!! they were fine with that too!! we will
have a live christmas tree, and plant it after christmas. we can put
it outside with outdoor lights on it!! hehe!!!
i don't know how often i will be on the computer, so please don't
think that i am ignoring you all!!! i love you all!!! that's why i
can tell you all of this!!!!
thanks for listening to me rant!!! we will be moving on dec.1st
so i have a few more weeks with the computer!!! it's just too far
out in the boonies to get a land line for the phone, and satellite
was too expensive!!!! (and that's what we're trying to avoid!! hehe)

Sounds like fun! I hope the evening includes some trick or treating and a trip
through the haunted house. Halloween is on of my favorite holidays...simply for
the fun of it!

This weekend, Spondyville's town handyman, "Pops" DeMaupassant, will
once again climb the rickety ladder to the tower high atop the
Spondyvile Town Hall and re-set the town clock, which marks the end
of Daylight Savings Time for another year.

As always, a small crowd will gather across the street in
Ankylosinger Square to watch "Pops" perform his task at 2AM. The
loyal group of Spondyville residents will yell encouragement and
remind "Pops" to "Fall Back". This vocal "reminder" was deemed
necessary, after the year 2001, when "Pops" mistakenly set the clock
forward in the fall and ahead in the spring, thus confusing everyone
for the entire year.

Tragedy was, fortunately, averted this past Spring, when "Pops" again
set the clock back one hour instead of forward. The crowd yelled up
to him, "Spring Forward", however, "Pops", who had come straight from
an all-day Simon Sez contest over at the Senior Center, thought that
he was being given a command from Simon, and proceeded to jump off
the ladder. Fortunately, a newly purchased awning outside the mayor's
office broke his fall, and he rolled harmlessly off into a large pile
of leaves which were waiting to be mulched.

Hopefully, tomorrow night, "Pops" will once again remember that the
yelling refers to what he is supposed to do with the clock and not
what to do while on the ladder.

As per tradition, "Pops" will perform his task while uttering his now
famous slogan, "An hour saved is a minute earned sixty times."

For the "100 percenters" in the crowd, (Spondyvilleans who are
totally fused), there are prism binoculars available, donated by the
Marie Strumpell Charitable Foundation. Coffee and crullers will be
provided for all by the adjacent Spondy Cafe.

Hi Whit,

I have polycystic ovaries, endometriosis and possibly some other
female issues in addition. I do not know if any of those conditions
are related to female AS but would be quite curious if other spondy
ladies have these issues, too.

I have been in the care of a hormone specialist for the last 3 or 4
years. It was found that my body doesn't produce progesterone, so even
if a pregnancy takes place and implants, I lack the hormones to keep it.

You're not alone.

Hi Kelly,

I don't get around to Spondyville quite so often so I missed your post
until today.

I have a severe TMJ deformity and had been to a local specialist
several times when he was practicing. All those years nobody linked it
to AS. That doc is no longer in my area and I don't know where he
moved to. I can't really blame him as he was very thorough in getting
my background and patient history but that was when we were all told
AS is a man's disease and very rare at that. I had a $2000 mouth guard
made through his clinic, which was every which way from Sunday custom
fitted to my mouth but eventually found better results with the store
bought Doctor's Night Guard. If you've never seen those, they sell 'em
at drug stores and you boil them in a pot on your stove and fit them
to your teeth yourself. Because my lower jaw is much smaller than it
ought to be, the small / child's size fit a little better. It still
didn't work as advertised but that's the best product I've had
experience with.

I have been out of work for 4 months now and I can empathize with your
situation. I have been working with a Voc Rehab counselor and would
recommend that you ask to talk with one in your town. Even though the
doctor VR sent me to went out of his way to not give me any help with
my disease severely interfering with what I can or can't do in order
to earn a livelihood (long story and he's definitely a whack-a-doc),
my VR counselor has been wonderful. They can point you in the
direction of assistance even if their office can't provide the help
you need.

Best of luck to you!

I am interested in talking to anyone who has had a miscarriage or
multiple miscarriages with AS. I just suffered my second miscarriage
on Tuesday, and am devastated to say the least. I have no problems
becoming pregnant, but i have only made it to 7 weeks. I made it to 6
weeks with the most recent one.
During the first pregnancy i was not as healthy as I am now (was in
the middle of a flare). The second pregnancy was healthy, but the HCG
levels failed to stay high, even on progesterone. Has any other woman
here experienced this?
** i do ask that responses are from those who have been directly
affected by miscarriage thanks for your understanding**

Thanks,

keeping him.  i just like the fact that the new one said that he has some
catching up to do.  he said that i seem very informed, and he wasn't afraid to
give me pain pills, which is nice.  not that i use a lot of them, but i do take
them on a daily basis.  anyway, thanks for the response!!

hello all,
i just had to say that i had two very good doctor appointments this
week. the first one was with an e.n.t. she was nice, thorough, and
knew about a.s. when i told her that i was happy that she knew more
about it then just the name , she said, " well, it's not as un-common
as people think." i told her that she would be surprised about how
many people in the medical field didn't know much about it. she was
also understanding about how many women have it.
my next appointment was today, with my new primary doc (so that i
can get my referral to my rheumy that i love), and he was wonderful
too!!! he told me that i don't really need to see my cardio doc
since my heart was really fine. ( no blockages etc.) he said that he
can take care of my tachycardia stuff as well as my high trigliceride
problem. he also said, "i'm going to have to learn more about a.s."
how wonderful is that? he knows about a.s. of course, he just wants

it's nice to know that there are good doctors out there. he also

yesterday.  she told me that we have to do some hearing tests ( i've had hearing
loss for about 15 years or so)  to try to see what's going on.  she then said
depending on how things turn out, i may have to have an mri of my ear.  does
your ear hurt more when you chew?  is it more on one side than the other?  did
the doc check for infection?
i am in a similar situation with disability.  i'm wating for my hearing.  i'm
hoping that it will be by early next year.  it is a pain without extra income.
i am married, so that really makes it easier for me.  not that we haven't had
our share of money issues!!!  i hope that you can figure something out so that
you can finish school!!!!  what a wonderful degree to have!!!
please take care, and i hope that you get some answers soon!!!  get on that
doc about your ear!!!  i hate ear infections! yuck!!!

To: Spondyville@yahoogroups.com

Hi all, I hope the changing weather is treating everyone well. I have
two questions..
1. Do any of you have TMJ? I have been having ear pain, the doctor
said it could be a slight ear infection or since I am a young woman
with a pre-existing condition, the possibility of it being TMJ is a
little more common. He said TMJ may have some arthritis components
with it, so I am just wondering if it is true.
2. Is there any way to get assistance when I cant work before my
disability hearing? My hearing is assumed to be in August- so I have
to stay in college to stay on my parents insurance and would like to
finish my degree in sign language interpretation, but my schedule this
next semester is very tough, and I feel I wont be able to work, but
this leave me money-less. My schedule will be 8 hours of classes 2
days a week, I dont know if I can do that alone, but do that and
working is not seeming like it is going to work. So my solution now is
a student loan- but I am hoping there is some other option- any ideas?
Thanks :)
Kelly

There IS an association between TMJ problems and Spondylitis.
According to the SAA, about 10% of people with Spondylitis experience
jaw problems.

Here is one study:

Let me think about the second question.

Kevin, I am very happy that you have finally gotten your SSI, SS benefits,
Medicare and Medicaid. Although you'll never get wealthy on disability benefits,
at least you have some comfort in knowing that you can have some income, get
medical care when you need it, and meds. That, in itself, is a blessing. You are
so right in encouraging people to be patient and persistent. Once you begin the
journey, never give up. Applying for disability benefits can be an enormous
battle; in my husband's case it went on for more than seven years. As his
advocate, it was an exhausting ordeal for me to keep track of everything...the
medical records, physician appointments, court appearances and so much more. But
in the end, he was finally awarded the benefits.

Hi Spencer. Kevin in Ohio here. Sorry it's been so long.
I hope my posting was not too brash or hateful but when it comes to the
government they can really make you mad, but my in my case it did go
fast compared to many others. I am grateful for what I did get but you
suer have to fight it to get it. My case being SSI you will always get
denied on your initial application and on your appeal so then it goes
to the third step, An ALJ to here your case. In most cases people do
not go that far and just let it drop like they hope you will!
I have been told this is the standard in most all cases for SSI. I on
the other hand felt compelled to finish the fight by myself "no
lawyer" and to my surprise I got it. And the judge found that I in
fact did pay enough into Medicare to get it. after Social Security
said I had no right to it because I hadn't paid enough into it, the
judge found that I had paid enough into it to file a clame for it
clear up until 12-2011 ! . So he ordered it for me as well. So now I
have the Medicare part A and B along with the Medicaid. The people at
social security and at the job and family services place said that
this is almost unheard of for some reason. See I worked for a school
system in Painesville Twp Ohio for 10 years as a custodian, you dont
pay into social security being a school employee but you do pay into
Medicare so I guess this is where they got messed up. But I did get it
and just today I went for an MRI of my lumbar and have been back to my
Rhumy 4 times already and it's all paid for! my prescriptions are
$2.50 and $5.60 but a 30 day supply of 60 Vicodin only cost me $1.05
so I am not complaining at all. I will not be put back on anything
like Enbral until all the stuff comes back from the labs. I was on it
for 2 years. But at $175.00 a shot for that stuff I would gladly pay
the $5.60 for a month supply. Any way I know I am rambeling on here
and my spelling stinks but you get my point. KEEP FIGHTING THE FIGHT
PEOPLE AND DON'T GIVE UP FOR NOTHING OR NO ONE! It's your life and
they don't care about you, as hard as it is to say it is true. your
just another number to them and most people will give up after the
first few tries and that's what they want you to do. Please keep going
as painful as it might be to you. I am only 42 years old and even my
Dad was floored when I told him I won my case. Surprises can happen if
you keep with it! I hope my ranting all over the place can be made
sense of to someone and give some hope to those who might be at the
end of there rope. Just be patent and follow through keep going to
your doctor because if after the 2 years you are found disabled,
Medicare will pay all your back doctor bills!
Brightest Blessings to you all and if anyone has questions about my
case please email me or list it here for others to see.
Kevin.
