Betty,

Just be careful what you use for toilet paper. When my dad was very young, he
used poison ivy leaves. Spent three days laying across his bed on his
stomach!!

Yup, North Snohomish county. The power is back on and my street out
front it the worst one I encountered on my drive today. I commute to
Everett.
70º in New York City? Something just doesn't seem right about that!

I don't know what the deal is, but it is 60 degrees here in NYC this

Hi Nan,

I am still feeling very sore. My doctor does not think that I have broken
the coccyx but that the damage is soft tissue. However, I am not so sure. If
anything there could be a very small hairline fracture. It has not been
x-rayed and will probably not be x-rayed for at least another week.

I am responding when I get into the hydrotherapy pool and do some of my
exercises in the water. I have been taking it easy and modifying the
exercises. Even freestyle swimming seems to hurt, though I managed a few
laps yesterday.

Today my coccyx really hurts me quite a lot. It could be the weather that is
not helping. I am not strong when it comes to trying to handle the pain. On
the other hand, my feet are feeling a lot better ;-)

So, Robert , thanks so much for sending the snow eastward!!! So nice
of you to think of us here in the midwest! Ha! I'm east of St. Louis
and they're warning us on the news tonight that Thursday is going to
blast us here. Can't hardly wait! Actually, I'm just thankful that our
daughter had her baby last week while weather wasn't a problem,
they're home safe and sound and won't have to get out in the ice and
snow. My son is an over-the-road truck driver and he just got in from
CO...so glad he's going to Cincinnati tomorrow and not back west. It's
been in the 60's and 70's here for the last week, so we can't
complain. Thanks for all the input from this discussion board...it's
very helpful...hope you're feeling better, Maggie:)

Guys,

in 1984 when I was in your country, I was hoping for a white Christmas. We got a
sprinkling of very light snow. I was in Fairborn Ohio at the time.

When we were due to leave Townsville at Christmas time, an earthquake hit
Newcastle. It caused a few anxious moments because my husband's family live in
the region. They were all safe and we saw the devastation.

This year December has started being very hot. This is not good news for my
body. I hate muggy, humid weather. It brings out the aches and pains all over
the place. What is worse, I am still in pain from my fall.

Hi Gigi,

Well I am feeling the effects of the weather as well, except that it is the
opposite experience. I hate the humidity because it upsets my body. My feet
are continuing to get better since I have had my new orthotics. I have found
a pair of shoes (Portland brand) and I think that they are a men's size.
They are wide enough for my feet. I am wearing them with my orthotics, and I
am thinking of taking them along to the podiatrist. They might save me the
cost of buying the Brooke's brand shoes which will be over $200 and I cannot
afford the cost at the present time.

I have been working on getting my steps per day up to a decent level. Last
week I managed to get over 10,000 steps twice. The second time, I hit 11000
steps plus I did time in the pool ( I estimate the pool time is worth 2500
steps) which means I made it to 13600 for the day. The next day I did not go
very far at all ;-). Then on Saturday I had my accident. Yesterday, I did
the equivalent of about 10,000 steps, which included my pool time. What I am
noticing is that there is pain shooting down the back of my left thigh when
I am walking. I am doing a circuit around our swimming pool, much to the
amusement of my animals. They just sit and watch when I am walking. I did a
circuit this morning that has lasted for 17 minutes.

If the weather is not too unpleasant then I will try and do some more
walking around the pool, and then try testing the water again ;-)

Maggie

The weather in Texas has been strange also. Reminds me of 1980. It was
so hot in November. Guess that is the prediction for 2006 also. This
morning we received a surprise. The weatherman kept saying that it was
going to be cold but I didn't know it would be this cold. Especially
after it was almost 80 yesterday. The rain keeps coming. Maybe we will
have some sleet; we rarely get snow anymore. So much for global
warming. This cold weather sure does play a factor in feeling well.
Every joint hurts today. Maggie, I do hope you are feeling much
better. I have been thinking about you alot. Stacy, how is our little
man Jake doing? I hope all is well with him. Have a great day
everybody.

the weather gods dropped sleet as big as kidney beans--just enough to cover the
freeways completely in ice--shortly followed by 5-6 inches of snow. I had the
"pleasure" of spending 4 hours on I-90, attempting to drive the 10 miles from my
office to my home. Well, to make a long story short, I did not get to my own
home until Tuesday around noon. You see, I live on live about 25 minutes east of
Seattle, on what is known in these parts as the Samammish plateau.) My community
is called Issaquah; the town itself is nestled at the feet of Cougar, Squawk and
Tiger---a triangle of low mountains that introduce visitors to the west entrance
of the Cascade Range here in Washington.

It's been a very bizarre two days in the land of Oz, but the beauty of the heavy
snow on the evergreens has been a beautiful blessing and a bountiful feast for
the eyes. It's cold! The temperature on my patio registered 18 degrees F. last
night--an unusual occurrence around here. It's warmed up a bit since then...26
right now. Woohoo!

The whole world (well, at least my little piece of it--is covered in ICE...not
very much fun to try to walk on without falling. I have so much hardware in my
body these days, the prospect of losing my footing is a bit more dangerous than
in years past. I look like a little old lady on ice...pussyfooting along at a
snail's pace, grasping onto anything within reach in an attempt to feel a bit
more secure. Grrrrr....

Thankfully, my car is all-wheel drive, which is safer than my feet. Hmmm.....I
wonder if I can trade myself in on a newer model!! lol

Robert,

I've been watching the weather in your area, because it's coming our way. We
were at 60-65 all week, and by Friday night we're suppose to be down in the 30's
and then 20 on Saturday with snow. I have to say, I hope we don't get all of
what Seattle has gotten. I'm just not ready for it!!

I hope you warm up soon. Being cold is such a bummer.

I live north of Seattle and have had it with snow already. By monday
noon I had 12 inches. Then the power went out. And the temperature
dropped. The power came back on after 24 hours but it has remained cold.
It got to 12º overnight and today has warmed up to 28º. The power went
out again this afternoon and just came back on. I have been housebound
now for 4 days, my street (an atertial) still hasn't been plowed and
since we never get snow, I haven't bought chains for the car yet. I have
only had the car for 2 years. My boss has been pretty patient with my
absence so far.....
I hope to share the snow with everyone so I am trying to send it

No snow here in Va. yet! ;o( One night about a week ago.. it was very
rainy and cold... We saw just a few flakes mixed in... We usually don't get
"real" snow until January ..... Though we have had it earlier before. I
remember a
number of White CHristmas yrs.
It's been unusually warm here... mid 60's during the day... but the cold is
supposed to be back by friday evening!

My friend lives in Seattle and is enjoying the snow. We grew up in WI and now I
live in Chicago. We had 65 and thunderstorms today, but the cold is on it's way
along with snow. Just makes our lives harder when we have mobility problems.
But pretty to see it falling and making everything look clean and bright.

Its getting down right nasty here in Denver, Co too. It is dumping 5 inches of
snow, and because of the uniqueness of my accessibility situation, I'm stuck
here tomorrow. I can't get down the alley, and Access-A-Ride won't come up.

I am a little late checking my messages. I have been using the Enbrel
Sureclick for about 3 months. As others have indicated, it stings, but
it's over in 15 seconds. I have Aetna as my HMO, and I actually get a
call from them when it's time for the next delivery. They ship it in
an iced styrofoam box, and it's easy. At first I got some redness and
a bit of swelling around the site, but that has pretty much gone away.
I am getting pretty good results - much easier to get up in the
morning, reduction in some of the more disperse pain.

Good luck.

Nan,

congratulations on the birth of your grandson

The muscle spasms have reduced which means I am not so sore, but I really do
need to have an x-ray to make sure that I have not fractured my coccyx!! I am
hoping that it is only peripheral damage. However, I have a huge bruise on my
butt that proves the blood is pooling from another location.

I went to the hydrotherapy pool this morning. I did not do most of my normal
exercises because I concentrated on the low back area. I feel better because I
went to the pool, but it is marginal.

Anyway I guess it could have been worse, and I am thankful that I have not lost
my sense of humour over this accident.
