Your bet was wrong, I have read them. So have some of the teachers in my sons
school....and the reason why they have been removed from the school.

Hold on there, Yvonne. This is not the first time you've made an
allusion to somehow this group not being fair in general and not being
fair to you specifically. I strongly disagree. A few weeks ago you made
comments which unfairly blamed the group when they did not respond
quickly enough to one of your queries. You had asked a very complicated
and specific question, of which only a few people had knowledge or
experience. After the weekend, a number of people did respond.
Now you suggest that somehow you're having this opinion is not being
tolerated and that because some people disagree with you, this is a
lynching or an attempt to silence you. That is simply not true. I
didn't delete your post for that very reason.
I don't mind opinions, I mind people using this board as an echo
chamber to repeat whatever has been filtering through their emailbox.
It's the same reason I'll delete any chain letters that are posted
here. I want this to be a forum for first-hand opinions and
experiences, not second-hand and third-hand, warmed-over thoughts
written by strangers with agendas.
Again, I'm not debating whether what you're saying is true or not. I
don't know, I have not read this author's work. And, I would be willing
to bet, neither have you. As a writer, I would hate to have someone

This email campaign was started by a Catholic group which is familiar
with the author's writings, and has been critical of his work in the
past, and has made an assumption about the movie. Their outrage, and I
believe it is totally sincere, was then picked up and passed on by
other religious and morality-based groups such as the American Family
Association and Fox News. So, let's not pretend this is some populist
grass-roots campaign started by concerned mothers who wanted to warn
others of a serious threat to their children. It is a calculated
campaign to influence people. That's ok. I'm not critical of the
opinion, just critical of the way the opinion is being so loosely
thrown around by people who don't know the facts first hand. That's
what builds into a lynch mob mentality.
I don't want this group to get bogged down in rants about politics or
religion, which is why I try to avoid both topics and concentrate on
other matters. Sorry, if I don't always succeed.
You don't have to think a certain way to be here, but you do have to
accept the fact that AS is what bonds us, and therefore, in every other
area of Life, we have to be tolerant of each other's opinions and
values. Debating an issue is fine, as long as you come away still
respectful of the other person's right to an opinion.
