Hi Sherry, my nameis Wendy. I am c-6 since november of 02. I can totally relate to the burning sensation. Mine starts @ my level of injury all the way down to my toes.Even under my arms and my legs. They burn and ache to the point I sweat profusely from it and my body gets real stiff from fighting the pain. I take pain meds and they still burn very badly.
My one doctor put me on elavil?that helps sometimes but when my body gets used to the drug I stop taking them for a little and then start taking them again so they help. it is actually is an anti-depressant, I am not deppressed but it helps with the burning alot.I would suggest it to your dr.
I too was in a car accident in 02, flipped my truck, was ejected, crushed my spinal cord.c-567.Got surgery, they put pins in my neck to stabolize it. But immoble, got my arms back right away, just waiting for the rest.
My guess is extensive nerve damage...I also feel nerves tingle all throughout my body all the time.and sometimes I twitch alot when tryinng to get some shuteye.keeps me up alot at night.I am sorry about your pain but glad I am not alone. ya try to describe this to a dr. and they think your nuts.lol I do notice rom helps, so maybe try to excersize. the only pain killer that really helped is morphine. but I don't wanna be wacked out all the time. I try to enjoy whats left of my life. if you find anything that helps let me know.asap good luck and welcome to the group----- Original Message -----
From: SherrySent: Wednesday, March 31, 2004 5:16 PMSubject: [Spinalcordinjury] anyone able to help with info on burning sensations?Hello everyone, I have been scanning the posts in hopes of finding
out information about burning sensations in different areas of the
body. I saw that mentioned in a previous post and thought I would
inquire. I have not posted before because even though I have an
injury to my spinal cord I did not feel I was really in the right
place. Most information to be found deals with those that are
paralized and I'm not and neither is a friend that I talk to on one
of the other groups. However, this burning thing has brought my
attention up.
I was in a bad car accident back in 2001 in which at the time I was
only diagnosed with closed head injury and torn rotor cuffs in both
shoulders. I have always been ambulatory even though my balance is
very poor. Last fall an mri was done of my neck at the request of the
pain clinic. I have terrible headaches all the time and nothing has
helped. That mri showed that I have an injury to my spinal cord in
c5,6,7....the cord is now an oval shape (squashed) and disks are
bulging (great news after 2 and a half years). I don't fully
understand what this effects or if there are any treatments to help
me and at this point I'm not getting a lot of answers from the docs
either. The burning sensations I get are in two areas.....one is my
brain...sometimes it feels like it is on fire and nothing will put it
out, the other is my left arm above the elbow where I had come in
contact with the tire of the truck that hit me.
The friend I met on a different group had a disk blow out and
required surgery. She is now walking with a cane.....I can not tell
you the level the injury was right at this moment. Anyway, she gets
these terrible burning sensations in her legs. She also has had no
help understanding this from her docs or therapists.
Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this for us?
Any help would be appreciated.
Sherry
