the life of their 3 year old Daughter, Ariella.

Ages of surviving 3 boys is 7, 10, 12 and they can use everything.

hey guys- i know we all feel like "what can we do for israel"..its so
hard being here while our destiny is unfolding over there..and we
feel so helpless..however, there IS something we can do.

karnit goldwasser, the wife of ehud goldwasser (one of the captives)
has personally requested that there be a BIG rally here in ny. there
will be a massive one in kikar rabin on thursday, and the hope is to
have just as many ppl show up at this one. we need to tell the world
that our soldiers, our brothers and sons, must be released. they
MUST come home now.

i know its a tough time to come and show up..many of you are in
school, etc and its on pretty short notice- but i really think if you
can devote an hour or so of your time for this really important cause-
its something we can be doing on this side of the ocean, in our
nations time of serious need...

please, at least if you cant make it-help to spread the word...

Lakewood Woman Abducted, Sexually Assaulted

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- A young woman was abducted, sexually assaulted and
then released by her captor after leaving a health club in this
heavily Orthodox Jewish community, authorities said Monday as they
investigated whether the assault was linked to similar crimes in New
York.

Police described the attacker as being a white male in either his mid-
20s or mid-30s with a slim build and short. He was further described
as having short brown hair, possibly shaved, and a short goatee.

The woman was abducted shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday from the health
club parking lot and returned to the same location around 5 a.m.
Monday, authorities said. The woman, described as about 20 years old,
was taken to a hospital after police were contacted.

Authorities said the woman was injured while trying to fight off her
abductor, but the nature of her injuries was not immediately known.
She was still being interviewed by police Monday afternoon.


"Our town had a terrible crime visited on us last night," said Mayor
Meir Lichtenstein. "All of us in Lakewood are gathering around the
victim and the family."

Police Capt. Robert Lawson said authorities were working with New
York City police to determine whether this case was related to
several recent attempted abductions of younger girls in Borough Park,
a largely Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn. Authorities said
they could not say whether this incident was a bias crime, but are
investigating that possibility. Police were seeking a male suspect.

Lakewood, a community of about 65,000 people near the New Jersey
shore, is composed of nearly 50 percent Orthodox Jews, some of whom
study at the Beth Medrash Govoha rabbinical college.

The mayor said he had asked police to step up patrols in the area.

The crime has many in the Jewish community worried.

"We're like a family. In this case, the girl would be like a sister,
and everybody is worried that this could happen to them," said Yaakov
Klugman, a student at the rabbinical college.

Rosh Chodesh Nissan (this year: March 30) officially ushers in the
Spring season when we may recite Birchat Ha'Ilanot, the blessing upon
seeing fruit trees in bloom.

This special blessing is recited only once a year. In it we praise G-
d's ongoing renewal of creation. The blessing is as follows:

Boruch Ata Ad-o-nay, E-l-hainu, Melech Ha'olam,
sh'lo hasair b'olamo kloom,
ubara bo briyot tovot v'eilanot tovot,
leihanot bahem benai adam.

"Blessed be You, G-d, our G-d,
King of the Universe,
that His world is not lacking anything,
and He created in it
good creations and good trees
for the pleasure of mankind."

(Readings for before and after the blessing are found in some prayer
books.)

It is desirable to seek the opportunity to recite Birchat Ha'Ilanot
as soon as possible in the month of Nissan (unless Rosh Chodesh
Nissan falls on Shabbat). It is said only upon seeing a tree in bloom
for the first time. The growth of leaves alone is not sufficient to
allow one to say the blessing; there must be flowers (or buds,
according to some authorities).

One who saw fruit trees in bloom during Nissan, but forgot or
neglected to recite the blessing, may then recite it only until the
time that the fruit of the tree has (begun to have) grown.

Ideally, Birchat Ha'Ilanot should be made outside of the city limits,
and only on at least two trees, and the more the better (as in an
orchard). There are those who hold that these trees should be of at
least two different species. Also, it is desirable that it be recited
with a minyan of 10 males if possible, so that it can be followed by
Kaddish.

According to Kabbalah, this blessing has special significance. When
Jews make this blessing they are able to redeem souls who have been
re-incarnated in the vegetal realm, making it possible for them to
continue or complete their tikun (soul rectification). It should
therefore, be said with intense concentration and kavanah
(intention).

Also, it is desirable to follow the blessing with a donation of three
coins to tzedakah (charity), corresponding to the three soul levels
of nefesh-ruach-neshama.

"See (said Yitzchok of Yaacov), the fragrance of my son is like the
fragrance of a field that
G-d has blessed." (Gen. 27:27) It is interpreted that this verse
applies to anyone who recites Birchat Ha'Ilanot with the proper
intention.

Yeshivat Hesder Yerucham is considerd by many to be the premier
Hesder Yeshiva of All Hesder Programs in Israel. It is the Yeshiva
our son Eliyahu was zoche to attend in Israel, and it is with his
fellow students from Hesder Yerucham that he served in Tzhahal's
elite –Plugat Shimshon/Gaza Brigade. Hesder students combine yeshiva
studies with military service. Many Hesder students go on to serve as
officers and members of Israel's most Elite military units.

In 1993 a group of young men from the finest religious Zionist
communities in Israel moved to Yerucham and founded Yeshivat Hesder
Yerucham. Their expressed goals were not only to study Torah on the
highest level and serve in the Israeli army, but also to settle the
Negev and to make Yerucham a model of a fully-integrated, successful
town according the highest values of religious Zionism.

Since its founding, the Yeshiva has become well-known throughout
Israel for its excellence in learning, and the warm relations both
among students and between students and rabbis.  Unique to the Hesder
Yeshiva in Yerucham, however, is its commitment to the town and the
social action projects required of its students for the betterment of
the local population.
SEVERAL OF THESE PROGAMS INCLUDE:
1 .Chavrutot – Where Hesder students act as learning partners/tutors
for local elementary school students.
2. Enrichment program –  a. Provision of numerous extra after-school
religious subject enrichment classes for local school students.  B.
Presentation of classes in local synagogues both on Shabbat and

3. Netivot – Yeshiva student's work/ meet with students from local
secular schools.
4. Bar Mitzvah Program – Targets 13 year old new immigrants, with the
aim of helping them build a Jewish identity.

During a BBQ a guest stumbled and took a little fall - she assured
everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) and just
tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up
and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up,
Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. At 3:00
am a
call was received from Ingrid's husband telling that his wife had been
taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm, Ingrid passed away.) She had
suffered a stroke at the BBQ - had they known how to identify the
signs
of a stroke perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.

It only takes a minute to read this-

the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately,
the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer
brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a
stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three
simple
questions:

1. *Ask the individual to SMILE.

2. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

3. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. . .
It
is sunny out today) If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks,
call
9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could
identify
facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems, researchers urged
the
general public to learn the three questions. They presented their
conclusions at the American Stroke Association's annual meeting last
February. Widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis
and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10
people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
