I would recommend setting reasonable goals, like instead of cutting
out all soda, take away one can for awhile and then another until its
completely out of your system. Or you could switch to diet soda. It's
an acquired taste but it works. I would say the same with sweets.
There are good low calorie desserts. Like golden spoon non fat frozen
yougurt...17 cal per ounce! Or they have light ice cream bars in
grocery stores, jello with little cool whip etc... Hope this helps!
Welcome Mary! I had a personal trainer and he told me that 60-80% of
weight loss is based on your diet. cardio is 5-10% and strength
training is 10-20%. So don't overdo the gym! Excercise is great but
I think the key is diet and moderate excercise.
Remember not to starve yourself. I worked out the calories for 2 bowls
of cereal and 2 bars it works out to 480. so you need to eat a fairly
good sized meal and add fruits and vegetables. When we don't eat
enough our body holds onto the fat.
You can try fruit water or tea in the mix with your soda. meaning tea
at breakfast, a soda at lunch, and a fruit water at dinner or soda(ot
take it slow).

Hi! I'm Shannon. I'm at 155 and I've been at a plateau for awhile. I've just started going to the gym again and I'm trying to follow the Special K diet as close as I can. I have a class that runs from 4 to 7 after work all day so I will usually do a Slimfast bar during that. My lunch has been a can of soup or a lean cuisine. I don't seem to be losing weight yet though.
I have been at a plateau for a while too...athough I did lose 3 lbs...but that could just have been water weight and now I am at plateau again...it does get frustrating
Since the holidays are fat approaching, I am just wondering what everyone is planning to fix for their Thanksgiving dinner.
Since our anniversary is so close to that date, and sometimes on that date, we have a nice dinner here at the home, and our daughter fixes the turkey, and the pies and all I have to do is the veggies and the potatoes. I have started making the green bean casserole with the cream of mushroom soup and also the French onion rings that around it. Then I make myself just the regular green beans, since I cannot eat onions.
I am having good success with the Special K challenge. I have my cereal along with one those fruit cups that I can get at the grocery store, and also my coffee, with my 2% milk. I have only been on it regularly for about 10 days, and I have lost 3 pounds, which I am happy about. I told my husband that although sometime I may loose just one pound, I do not mind, for that one less pound on me. I also retain fluids, and when that happens, I take my medication (Lasix) for it, and the next day I am down again. I just will not quit.LOL
Cool,
Soda is just the worst. A friend of mine stopped drinking soda, nothing
else but that, and lost 20-pounds in a very short period of time. In
addition to being high in calories, fat and sugars, Coke, Pepsi and
other sodas use carbonic acid which if consumed in excess can cause
problems with body chemistry.
Like anything that is bad for you, you are just going to have to find a
way of cutting back on it or giving it up. I've said it on this board
several times, but I'll risk repeating myself for you: If a person
treated you as badly as all this junk food and drink does you would cut
them out of your life without a second thought. If a person made you
feel as bad about yourself as all that junk food and drink does you'd
kick them out of your life so fast you'd break a heel.
Cool, you need to break a heel.

Leslie,
A lot of people have a lactose intolerance problem. My daughter did as
a baby and we used Lactaid in her bottles. Lactaid is lactose-free milk
which is a big help to folks who have these problems. It comes in
several varieties and even chocolate flavor. It also has a longer shelf
life than regular milk but you still get all the benefits of milk like
calcium and vitamin D.

I know it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway; If you are going
to drink, do be careful.

myself now so I need to lose this weight. My weight now is 180 pounds.
But I need to try to get down to 140.
My name is Leslie I would like to lose about 20 pounds. My problem with
this deit is that I really dont do well with milk products...Are there
any of you that have taken the challenge and had a milk/ gas problem?

Hello! I am 20 yrs old and I have been on every diet there is. I would
like to lose 20 maybe 30 pounds as a long term goal and 10 lbs by
thanksgivng! I am giving the special K diet a go and I know that if I
stick to it I will lose the weight!
Your age, your current weight, and activity level need to be taken into consideration.
Also what you are eating for lunch (a steak, baked potatoe with all the trimmings and a heavily dressed salad, wouldn't be a good idea)..my regular meal might be a salad (dark lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoe), with 3 or 4 oz of lean broiled chicken,or turkey,or hard boiled eggs (one yolk with two whites) or salmon, very little salad dressing (one with no high fructose corn syrup..and no other sweetner). Dressing might be a little olive oil, with vinegar or lemon juice and ground pepper, oregano or basil..
You might want to go to www.mypyramid.gov and look at that site. You might want to increase your exercise. I've found that 3x a week for 1/2 an hour (I'm guessing that's what you do at Curves)..would not make any difference for me at all.
You might want to add daily exercise..walk for 1/2 hour each day, in addition to Curves.
You may want to get out the tape measure and use that as an indication rather than the scale.
Finally look at how you are feeling..has your energy level increased?
Remember you don't want to drop weight quickly..it took a while to get there...:-)
You also might want to look at some muscle building activities...www.fitness.com or www.shape.com should have some suggestions.
Hi Jody, you may be losing water gain or your stuck in um... i
forget...when your stuck in the same weeight and its not ghoing any
where. You should try to change your exercise plan, mabey try a fast
place class or a new exercise tech.
Tnx for the info Bob. We have a long holiday here around 5 days off to work so I can really start the special K Diet. I will keep you posted guys for my progress. Thank you for your inspiring stories. Good luck to us!
