jim, you are so right about the hormones, luckily i had a early meno. so i'm past that.  finally i am more stable.  even during meno.  or after a woman needs to watch what she eats the rate of heart disease is as high if not higher than a man's.  the symtoms are a bit different as the test should be as well.  a person still needs to eat the right amount of calories and the right foods to counteract the heart disease.   i am going to get a test done with a women doctor that was referred to me because of pressure in the chest twice.  so i can hopefully rule any heart problem out.   betsy_standish@...

The way i stay motivated to lose weight is to think about my wedding
day and how i want to be able to fit in my dress and not be a shame to
say i am on a diet and sticking to it on matter what it takes. Because
i have confindence in myself to know i can do it and then look back at
my success and to be able to say to everyone who knows me "look at me
now i did that on my own", i am proud that i follow through what i
always said i will one day accomplish.

Cleansing is like cleaning out the pipes...a blank slate....new canvas...of sorts.

There is a variety of them...here are two:

1.  8 oz water + 1 oz Grade B Maple Syrup + 1 oz organic (best) lemon juice + 1/8 tsp cayanne pepper --- stir fast and drink...it is delicious...use cold water in summer.  Do this only (ala fast) for a whole day instead of food.  Don't worry...you will enjoy it...

2. What I use is the 6-pack of cleanse juice from Tahitian Noni ... 2 a day (1 in am, 1 in pm)  for 3 days...and I add to it lean protein and green veggies ony...for the 3 days.

If you want to try the latter, let me know.

Hi Ann.... my name is Jimbo and no, you didn't screw up...so relax.

When you start a program like this you must realize that it is a change to what you were doing before.  Change shows up in different ways.

You don't know where you are going unless you first address where you were.

Furthermore, there are a lot of factors that impact this type of change.  First, I would ask you to look at these:

a.  How old are you now and how much did you weigh when you were younger?
b.  How much water (6 glasses is good, 8 is better...and it depends upon your activity and the weather.  Obviously, in warm or hot weather, lots of water keeps you hydrated.  Water is a way for your body to elimiinate toxins which come from lots of sources...air, touching things, drugs from prior years, smoking, etc.  If you don't drink water the toxins will come out in other ways...not so happy ways.

c.  How much fiber do you get?  If you don't know....it is probably about 10-13 gm a day, which is about 1/3 of what you really need.  Fiber helps to keep you regular and helps your digestive system to be effective in eliminating waste.  You should process foods in 24-48 hours...so if you are "stuck" in holding onto things...fiber will get you back into good elimination.  It also keeps toxins from getting INTO your body from being delayed in a slow boat to china through your digestive system.

d.  How much sleep do you get?  You will be amazed how weight is more easily managed if sleep is increased.  Don't eat after 8pm....(tho your snacks are very smart and not detrimental to your weight program...celery and salsa, etc.).  Celery is a negative calorie food...you burn more eating it than you get FROM eating it...lol.  I once heard that if you eat enough celery you will disappear.

e.  If you begin a cleanse before you begin a diet program, you will be more successful.  For cleanse ideas...let me know and I will direct you to some good ones.

f.  Now then, it is very possible that you will GAIN weight before you begin to LOSE weight...but only for a short time.  The reason for it is that you will become a little more dense (lbs/cubic you) first...and then begin to burn off fat.  As you become more muscle and less fat...weight goes up.  Don't worry...it gets better.

g.  Eating more often is better than eating hardly at all.  Five times a day...e.g. three regular meals and snacks in between.  The most important thing is to eat lean protein (chicken breasts, fish like salmon, etc., filet..egg whites, etc., ) and GREENs ...as much as you want.  Keep the dressing on salads to oil/vin, or try a new one Braggs Seseme & Ginger...it is spicy and way cool.

h.  Try to not eat bread for a while....and only grainy breads with whole wheat flour.  Like oatmeal?  High fiber is good here...try Smart Balance Blend - it's really good.  You can't eat Special K cereal all the time...it gives you a nice bit of variety to do "change-up"

All in all....don't worry...if you stay smart and in control of your INTAKE..you will win.  Portions like a deck of cards in size.  And if you like chocolate...a small piece of DARK chocolate is not only good...it is good for you.

Let me know if you want to know more...I am here to help.

Jimbo

As far as you ate the ice cream at 9:30pm, that is late that will
cause you gained because it will sit on your stomach when you are
sleeping which it is not good. It is best thing not to eat after
8pm. You ate the 2 slices of pizza so it will be 720 calories. If
you want to have a little cheat for that week, it should be ok as
long as you dont eat after 8pm. Just keep active with the kids
during the day, if you cant go work out. So, it will not gained or
something like that. Just keep watch what you eat. I hope it helps!!

Did you eat a lot of fruit during the day? I was diappointment
that I only lost 1 pounds in 3 weeks. I learned that Fruits have a
lot of sugars if you eat a lot. It is best thing to eat a lot of
veggies for snacks. You may eat the fruit for breakfast. It sounds
like you are eating after 8pm at night that cause your food sit on
your stomach during you are sleeping which it is not good and it may
gained the weight because of that. It is best thing not to eat after
8pm.
Also, I rescreach online if you want to lose the weight then do
not eat butter, oil, bread, and some fruits may have too much sugar.
If you are doing right to eat then you will be paying off to lose 2
pounds. I hope it helps!

Okay, I did very well my first 6 weeks. Then, summer vacation for the
kids started this week and it was hot and I have not done any exercise
and even though I have tried to watch my eating, I did have 2 slices of
Domino's pizza yesterday and I had light ice cream at 9:30 last night.
I think I have gained back at least a half a pound. (I was down 6
pounds.)
Have I set myself up for failure, or will I be okay, as long as I
realize that when this week is over, Monday I need to get back into the
game? And, if I allow myself a cheat week every 5 or 6 weeks, will it
hurt be in the long run?

Hello Ann
Well actually the food combing diet is what I now live by..
I found this women and she is here at this website http://hsu.com/food_combining_simplified.htm it isnt a diet really it is eatting all the foods you still like n love but eatting them correctly just at the right time of the day..cutting Carbs is what everyone says we should do.. cut carbs because of this or that.. but this women helped me understand that it isnt the food we eat it is how we eat them.
I have cut out  the 3 course meals for example  Meat, potatoe, and veggie meals
and started making my meals a Meat and a salad and a non carb veggie.. Instead of running to the fast food store for lunch ( which i still do) and getting a hamburger and frys I get the frys and a salad this is the meal plan http://hsu.com/hsu_meal_plan.htm I have met this women in person she is  awesome in what she does in helping people.. My friend lost 75 pounds in 51/2 months doing nothing more then eatting foods at the right time of the day. and so far I have lost 30 and do nothing more then stick to her meal plan of eatting the same foods I love just at the right times of the day..
We all fail in diets because we try cutting out the foods we love, pizza,  pasta, potatoes for example..This women says just allowing our bodies to digest the right foods at the right times allows us to loose weight and it is working.... I Have also changed to sugar free everything same taste just no sugar..since starting this My blood pressure dropped , I was per diabetic.. Im not anymore..so this womens onto something on this website.. Check it out!!..

Edna,

You need to give yourself something to look forward to instead of
dwelling on past shortcomings. Nobody is perfect.

But think about this; when you have been on the Special K plan for a
couple of weeks and have been giving it an honest chance to work, you
will begin to see a difference. Not just on the scale either. Your
clothes will get lose, you'll start to look different and pretty soon
other people will start to notice.

Now all of those things are nice, and they can be a good motivator, but
they should not be the only reason for your efforts. My big motivator
and one I am sure most of the other people on the board can relate to
is that you will be healthier. You will physically feel better and
because your body will be better off nutritionally, you will be
healthier. That's a huge thing to have going for you.

Now think about it. You'll feel better, you'll be healthier, you'll
look better and people will respect you for your effort. That's a whole
lot of sunshine to blow up one skirt, don't you think? That's a heck of
a lot of good stuff to look forward to, no?

Be strong,
Bart

Hello,
My name is Shanna and I am a 29 years old who needs to lose the
weight about 34 pounds. I just started about three weeks ago and I
found out that I lost 1 pounds. I lost 2 inches waist and 1 inches
hip. I joined this group back in Jan 3rd of 2007 and I have lost 10
pounds from Jan to March. I stopped work out for some reason and I
gained 5 pounds. At this time, I am very serious to lose the weight
with no excuse. So far, I lost 1 pounds which it is better than
nothing. I would need to work out more days than 3 or 4 times a week.
My base weight was 166 and now my currently weight is 165. My goal is
130. I live in McKinney, tx.

From Wikipedia...
The Kellogg Company introduced this cereal in 1957, and it now comes in
several varieties. Special K cereal formerly was shaped as small pellet-
like morsels. In the early 1980s, this was changed to the more
familiar "flake" that is sold today.

I don't recall seeing it as the pellets. Must be that it didn't hit my
radar until they made it into flakes!

I'm certainly old enough to remember the 60's and 70's ;)

How long has Special K been around? When did it start? Does anyone
have any old logos or packaging examples?

Hi, My name is Angel and I'm 29 years old. I would like to lose about
25lbs before next April. I am recently engaged and I want to be back in
my size 6 by then. I've just allowed myself to stop eating right and
stop exercising regularly. I'm going to start the Special K diet and
hope it works!

Dear Connie:

I lost 20 pounds in 9 weeks. Thirty pounds is great! Whatever your doing, keep doing it and could you please let me have some details. I cut down fats and bread and sweets and switched to diet sodas because I love cokes so much. I also went on a exercise program of walking and have just started running. I cross train at a gym and swim, cardio and stationary bike. I would like to lose enough weight or size to get back to my size 4's. That is my normal size and has been for years. Something happened to me this winter called weight gain fast and now I am working hard to get back to my 4's, maybe not that many pounds but inches, I am about an 8 right now. Please share with me how you lost the weight.

Hi, my name is Lesa. I am 48 year old married mother of two. I also
take care of my parents. I need to lose at least 125 lbs. I get so
depressed about my weight. I really hope this plan is the answer to my
prayers. I really need a lot of support -- I have motivation problems.
