weight watchers does have some excellent meal plans for sure,  so does jenny craig and other good weight loss programs.  As long as the are including the basic food groups.  if that is not involved then it's not a proper diet.

Those are just excuses Deborah,  its easy to think of something to not exercise, but once you take the first step and go forward you'll realize what you've  been missing as far as your health goes.  Your whole body will thank you for it,  your heart and lungs, and weight.  Over the long haul the extra weight is a strain on your body all around.  and your heart has to work harder to keep the blood flowing.
First step.  throw away all the junk food in the house and don't buy any more.  everyone knows what junk food is.
Next step, start by walking a nice fast walk to get that heart rate up ( especially if you haven't exercised at all , or in awhile)
Then get on to do other aerobics type exercises,  then get to do strength training exercises,  bands, free weights , machines, etc.  Just do what you can to start and work your way up.
There are plenty of people here who can help you with your plan but you yourself have to be ready to do this,  no one can do it for you.
If you are truly fed up with the extra weight and really want to get on board , do so........ STOP MAKING EXCUSES  !
Its like people who want to quit smoking.    you have to really want to do it to make it happen.
Good luck,  don't get discouraged, it takes time, yes it can get frustrating but you have to stay strong and do something.   Falling back into bad habits will just make you gain more weight and We are all sure you don't want that to happen.

I agree with caw-1973. As a lapbander it is important to get the protein in and DO NOT do anything crazy ..ie a fad diet or skipping meals.

Look at caw-1973s weight loss ..eating properly and following the food groups.

My suggestion is that you should get coupons from the Special K site and wait till that product goes on sale and then stock up. AND Make little ziplocs of cereal portions and put back into the box.

I would keep a package of shakes for that emergency when you are away from home or studying for an exam and need to have a perfect meal or grab a ziploc of cereal.

Good luck you will definitely succeed :)
and jump on the board when you need our support :)

For me it has helped reading everyones posts ..but if they had this when I was younger I would never had been overweight :)

Honestly, If I had tried this diet plan (special K) i might not have been banded... I did every repeat EVERY fad diet around and I paid the price for doing it.

PLEASE anyone who is still reading this ... do not ever go the fad diet approach... I ruined my body and had to be lapbanded.   I still have to watch my diet and do have to exercise ...so nothing comes easy..:(

As for finances...I use the coupons and stock up on the Special K Cereal which I find addictive.... love the cereal...my friends and the lapband doctor cannot believe my love of the cereal :)
Best wishes on your total success

As long as you are getting protein in your one full meal, which it sounds like you are, then you are okay to skip the Special K Protein Shakes. If fact I did the entire 2-week program using Cereal for breakfast and lunch and two snack bars per day for my snacks. I did not eat waffles, crackers, protein shakes or any other products.

I lost the advertised 6 pounds in 2 weeks and continued with my own plan after that. I lost my goal of 40 pounds and have successfully kept it off now for 4 months.

You can do it! (even on a college student's budget)

As others have pointed out, if you're getting enough protein, there's no one
essential product you must have.

When considering the cost of your meals or snacks, you'll want to consider the
cost of what you would have instead (because you HAVE to eat something, right?).
At $8/4-pack, that's $2 per shake. If you are thinking of using them as snacks
and you already eat snacks, what do THOSE snacks cost? If they're healthy and
it's less money and you like them, stick with that!

I know that in the past I've spent $2 on chips & a diet soda (because diet soda
cancels out the calories in the chips :)), and the shakes are better for me for
the same cost.

However, you may be able to get fruit or veggies & prepare them at home for
less. If that's currently satisfying you, and you're eaten a protein-rich meal
for one of your meals, no need to change.

Hi! I'm new to the group & will be starting my plan mid-October. For those of you who have already started the plan, I'm wondering about meals. I don't have a lot of free time to cook, plus I'm not the best at it!

Do I have to follow the recipe ideas that are on the site, or can I replace the recipe ideas with foods I like & that are easy to make?

Anyone?
Thanks!

Hi Jen,
welcome to the Special K challenge! to help answer your questions go to the Special K Diet website and they will help you with a daily or two week meal plan to get you started. It's great if you like the Special K products such as the snack bars, cereal, protein shakes and water, it will break down your meal plan for each day and also tell you what you can eat or substitute in your meal plan. It's great I am following it now, and it's working for  me. I love the protein shakes and the snack bars. I am a huge fan of the cinnamon/pecan cereal. The shakes cut my appetite a lot up to  4 hours! I usually enjoy the snack bars mid-morning or when I'm on the go and didn't have time to eat. You just have to try and see what you like. Good Luck!
I also eat lots of  raw veggies and fruit anytime of the day and drink plenty of water! keep your body hydrated!

Try giving yourself a reward every weekend by switching the meals. For example
if you were having the special k meals for breakfast & lunch and the usual meal
at dinner time, take the special k meal for dinner and have the other two meals
normally.
Remember : This is only for weekends. Your stomach now is used to the small
amount of food, so don't worry yourself about the amount of food but how
healthy the food is.
If you felt ok with this (meal switching)for two weeks then you can have it
daily.
It is a step by step process. Till you finish up having 3 normal meals
carefully. If you controlled your self on the first step then and only then you
can step up the other.

Hi my name is Nicola, I'm 42 and I started the Special K diet yesterday. I am
5'7 and 236lbs. I thought because I was large framed I could handle having
weight, well the truth is I can't it's starting to affect my health. I can feel
it, so I now know this no longer a vanity issue but a health issue. I am going
to need encouragement, a buddy and perhaps if I am blessed a work out buddy when
I arrive in Houston in mid October. I have a big problem with midnight snacking
that I am trying to overcome. Come on help I know your out there..any advice is
greatly appreciated.

God Bless

I do know that water is very important for every reason.  your body needs it .  As far as fruits and veggies they are very important for everyone too.  I personally don't do the special k diet  as I cannot eat alot of cereals or those types of carbs or I will gain weight.   I personally have found that a diet that does not restrict most foods is the best.   just eliminating the bad carbs from your diet, eliminate the sugars, anything with hydrogenated anything in it,  or aspartame, or artificial sugars , no white flour products.  stick with whole wheat and whole grains even with the pasta they have some very tasty pasta's out there made of whole grain.  and for rice stick with brown rice.   use healthy oils with omega 3's in it.  or olive oil.    Eat fruits and veggies.  Drink plenty of water.  ( no less than half your weight daily).
As far as exercise goes I'm sure you've been told by many to use weight resistant exercises and something that will give you a cardio workout.  Vary your sports that you do.
Now with winter coming up if you can , ski, snow shoe,  get out and walk often.  you really don't need to jog to lose weight.  Just walk at a fast pace to get your heart rate up so you burn calories.   And to make it more interesting bring a friend with you so they keep you encouraged to exercise.  the benefits are very good.
Also don't get discouraged if the weight doesn't fly off , it really shouldn't . you really should lose it no more than 2 1/2 lbs a week to assure that it stays off.
Also its important to be on a diet you can live on .   or chances are you will gain the weight back if you go back to your old eating habits.
do you have a weight watchers group in your area, or a curves, or a gym to go to ?
Jenny Craig, etc.?
All of the above is important.
Just getting off of sodas, candy, fatty foods alone,  any junk food.  no snacking late at night.   should help you lose.   We all have a habit of trying to cure our cravings especially when winter starts rolling around.  Drink a glass of water when you get that craving and you should get an instant fullness so they craving goes away.  it only takes perseverance and will power .  and like most people its changing bad habits and turning them into good habits that will ensure the best results.
Good luck.   Stay strong.

Hi All -

Today is Day #2 for me and I am looking for some basic advice - here are my questions:

1) Is the Protein Water a freebee or does it count as a snack?

2) Can you eat unlimited fruits and veggies or are these a substitute for one of your two snacks and/or a supplement to meals?

3) I am trying to drink more water, think that helps?

4) Can I still do coffee with cream and a little sugar or does that counter all the other work I'm doing?

I don't mean to sound ridiculous here - to tell you the truth, I have never really dieted so I am oblivious.  Enough was enough though and I haven't been able to loose the weight I gained after having my 2nd daughter 19 months ago.  So, here I am.  I welcome ANY advice you have!!!

Thanks -

Jen

Hi! I'm new to the group & will be starting my plan mid-October. For those of
you who have already started the plan, I'm wondering about meals. I don't have
a lot of free time to cook, plus I'm not the best at it!

Do I have to follow the recipe ideas that are on the site, or can I replace the
recipe ideas with foods I like & that are easy to make?

Anyone?
Thanks!

This inquiry is for whoever has any information on the effectiveness of this
plan without using the protein shakes. I actually started the plan yesterday but
I haven't purchased the protein shakes and I am debating buying them at all. The
main reason I have not purchased the shakes is due to the price. At about $8.00
for a pack of 4, these shakes are quite expensive living on a college budget.
Now, being a nursing student I know the importance of protein so I am eating my
regular meal of choice containing protein; ie steak, edamame (yummy soy beans),
chicken etc.
Would someone please let me know if it would be as effective to get my protein
via choice food and not the shake.

I advise everyone to be taking a multi-vitamin supplement while on this plan (it
makes you feel less fatigued). Being a eco-friendly advocate and also not being
fond of swallowing pills, the multivitamin I take is called Vita Fusion (it's a
gummy supplement for adults). http://nwnaturalproducts.com/vitafusion/
I hope you can find this information useful! (:

I wish everyone the best in weight loss and maintenance!

I am excited to see the results and nervous to be able to stick with the
program. I would appreciate the comments and support given. I am 5'5'' and and
weigh an unfortunate 186 pounds. I am 19 years old and in college pursuing a
career in Nursing. When I was 15/16 years old I had the body I was happy with...
then time changes, breakup and make ups happen and you find yourself a whopping
60lbs unhappier. My ultimate goal would be to get to at least 125. With my bone
structure it is safe and possible... but seems almost impossible.

Besides the Special K Challenge kick-starting my weight loss and a drastic
change to my nutritional habits to continue the loss, I am also a runner. Well,
for the last 8 years it has been more like jogging occassionally until this year
when I starting to really run and train. I know running is not for everyone but
I thought I would post a link to this little video I found on Runner's World.
In case you are not one to click on links I can tell you it is about 5 minutes
long about a guy who lost 65 pounds while training for a marathon. I'm sure if
you go to runnersworld.com you can click through to find it. Plus I'm not sure
if links even work in this forum but I will give it a shot.
