In Canada the government has a great website with Canada's Food Guide. I just
checked the US Dept of Agriculture and there is a website called mypyramid.gov
with excellent info on healthy eating. Recently, I learned that we don't "diet"
anymore - it is called healthy eating and it works. It means totally changing
your life style but I feel so much better. I think addiction to junk food is a
tough habit to break, like smoking. They are both really bad for us but it
becomes a true addiction. Junk food tastes good right now but change how you eat
and gradually you'll notice a difference. Substitue a few plain almonds or
walnuts or a dried apricot when you get that craving. Low fat cheese is good and
raw veggies. And tell that little demon in your brain "no, no, no" we do not
want that junk food:) Gail--- In SpecialKgroup@yahoogroups.com, "kirstiehague"

I have some friends that are eating what they want but they stop at
6p.m....they have lost weight. I guess mostly water...I think but it works for
them. I think I am going to try it. They told me they wake up hungry and they
feel good.

I'm 37 with 2 children and have been stuggling to lose my baby weight now for over 5 years!  I am originally from Colorado but moved here in 1996;  I have had success with Special K as I've now lost 6 ponds in 3 weeks!  I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but, I haven't exactly been 100% with the Special K diet.  Well, I do eat the protein bar OR a shake in the morning, then I have 1 cup plain special k cereal to snack on for my snack, for lunch I have veggies with ranch (a whole bunch of veggies) and I have a regular dinner which is what's probably where I'm not losing as quickly as I want.

I started at 230 and am now down to 224; my goal is 165 but this time I need to think smaller numbers at a time.  So instead of saying I need to lose 65 pounds, I need to say that my goal is to lost between 9 and 11 lbs a month.  That makes it sound much more attainable.

So, good luck to you and keep your chin up!

Holly

Yes. As advertised I lost the 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I was very stricked with
cereal for breakfast, cereal bar for snack, dry cereal for lunch and another
cereal bar for an afternoon snack. They also have the waffles and protein
drinks but I prefered the cereal products.

It made me realize that I didn't need as many calories during the day that I was
used to. Now my day consists of fruits, veggies, granola, and salads in
moderation. I am enjoying a healthy lifestyle and it shows. Between Feb and
May I lost my goal of 35 pounds and since May I have successfully kept the
weight off.

I am still eating the same types of dinners I have always eaten only with
extreme caution. If I need more I will add on some fresh fruit to the end of
the meal to get complete satisfaction.

Go For It!!

Cyndee, although members can tell you what THEY are eating, calorie-wise, every
day, that has no bearing on what YOU should be eating. Everyone's body &
metabolism are different. What might be right for one person may be too few
calories for you and send your body into "starvation" mode, and actually cause
you to gain weight. Other people might require MORE calories per day than you
do, and that wouldn't be helpful either.

This sounds simplistic, but it's really the most accurate advice. Think about
how many calories you were eating when you were gaining weight. Now - eat
fewer, and/or exercise more.

Your best bet is to focus on eating a HEALTHY dinner, rather than the exact
calorie content (which can be hard to figure). Get rid of dinner foods that
contain useless calories, i.e., calories that don't contribute much in the way
of nutritional value. Fried chicken --> baked/broiled chicken. Salad w/ranch
dressing --> salad w/light viniagrette. Instead of vegetables with cheese or
other sauce, try herbs, or a sprinkling of parmesan cheese instead.

Members can help give you advice on healthy dinner ideas, but no one here can
tell you how many calories are just right for you.

hello, oh yes i love the junk food sorry to say. i am just starting my second
week and i know i can do this. i think you have to have something to inspire
you. i have had plenty of reasons and events and still failed to lose the
weight. This sounds silly but the other day i was hanging up my undies and i
thought how big they looked hanging on the rack and all of a sudden i started
laughing and thinking----cute undies, yes sexy little cute undies is something i
really want to fit into. nothing else has worked so this is worth going for.

The first thing I do when out for dinner is check out the menu for salads. I've
enjoyed some very delicious meals by having a salad. Ask for the dressing to be
on the side if possible - then you can add as little as you want. If it comes
with garlic bread, etc. ask the restaurant to hold the bread. Avoid anything
with batter, baked potatoes, french fries, dessert. If a meal comes with fries
or salad, choose the salad. Your tastes will change and french fries won't even
taste good after awhile. Restaurants serve way too much food so if they have a
senior's menu look at that - the portions are smaller. Hope this helps. Gail ---

so much easier to follow. For excercise I bought a ball and skipping rope, also I
turn on music and dance silly to the music. It does not cost me anything to dance

work out but it feels good after I have done it.I hope this will help you to get

I am familiar with the protein water but I did not use them during the two week
challenge. One serving of cereal for breakfast, a snack bar around 9-10am,
usually dry cereal for lunch (its not as bad as you think) and another snack bar
around 3pm.

As for dinner, I ate things we have always eaten only in moderation and I
absolutely didn't eat anything past 8pm.

When eating out be a little more selective then perhaps you have been in the
past. Salads are great but avoid bacon, a huge pile of cheese and certainly
don't smother it in ranch or blue cheese. Get a light dressing and use it
sparingly. Grill chicken is usually a good bet but if it is a sandwich ask them
to skip the mayo. look for alternative side items like side salad, fresh fruit,
or steamed veggies.

Don't swear off burgers and fries though. You will drive yourself crazy if you
say I am never eating anything fattening again. It is okay to reward yourself
once a week or every other week with a burger just don't clean the plate.
Moderation is the key to success.

Congratulations on another successful week. Keep up the good work and shed
those pounds. After two weeks of Spelcial K for breakfast, snack and lunch you
deserve a reward. Replace the Special K snacks with FRESH fruits and/or
veggies. Select easy to prepare and eat items like grapes, carrots, cucumbers,
blueberries or sliced apples. I say sliced apples because sometimes sitting at
my desk it is distracting to eat an apple from the core, not to mention a little
messy. Oranges may sound great, but when you are at work or busy with the kids
you will bypass the hassle of peeling the orange for the quick doughnut or
Little Debbie. If you must have an orange, peel it during some downtime and
ziplock it until you need it.

Try this for a couple of weeks and if you feel yourself craving the sweet,
greasy and salty stuff move back to the Special K. Because it is a "plan" it
will get you back on track.

Sunday we do our fresh produce shopping and Sunday night is prep time. Cutting
up cucumbers, cantalope, cleaning strawberries and plucking grapes off the vine.
All this work is well worth it when preparing my daily meals.
