Sharon Puszko, Ph. D., C.M.T., Owner, Director, Dean of Continuing Ed., Instructor, Therapist

Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute

Offices in Indiana, Florida, & California

The workshop will introduce the participant to the physiology and psychology of a long life and their effects on one's health. But it is not presented as a dry college type lecture; rather it is a practical and hands-on collaboration between instructor and participants. Come join us! nter

The Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute's Level One Certification will be held February, 24th, 25th and  26th, 2006.The program will be presented by Sharon Puszko, Ph.D., C.M.T., who travels and lectures nationally to present this unique information designed to help people feel more comfortable about working with an aging population with techniques that improve quality of life and help to bring back lost abilities to those in need of skilled touch. This workshop is mostly designed to educate therapists to the needs of this special population, but is intended to educate anyone who wants to be comfortable hands-on with an elder in need. The weekend will finish with a hands-on clinic of volunteers (ages 55 and over) for participants to apply a variety of techniques in a very practical manner to become comfortable with this information and promptly put it to use.

 Level 1- Geriatric Massage Workshop

This 2 1/2 day weekend workshop is the basis for our training program in Geriatric Massage. It offers 17 CEU contact hours for Massage Therapists and qualifies for the Level 1 Certificate in Geriatric Massage. By helping participants to gain insight into meaningful work with the
elderly, the therapist who likes to work with seniors is put on the path to a massage career that is emotionally satisfying and financially promising without being physically draining.

THE WORKSHOP DEALS WITH THESE TOPICS:

1. Physiological, psychological & sociological aspects of aging. A brief introduction into the riddle of "aging".
2. Client assessment, cautions & contraindications. Psychological aspects of contact with the elderly, attention to detail in the assessment of the older client.
3. Modification of standard massage techniques and development of special methods to suit each client's special needs. Participants are encouraged to think independently in their first hands-on phase of the presentation.
4. Practical hands-on work with older people. It is impossible to understand the need for different approaches when working with the elderly unless it has been practiced on the real thing. Therefore, the last day of the workshop is spent working hands-on with elderly volunteers.
5. How to establish a Geriatric Massage practice - Assists in starting your geriatric massage practice.

The geriatric massage workshop is of special interest to the mature massage therapist and the advanced student, as well as nurses, nurse assistants, chiropractors, home health aids, physical therapists, occupational therapists and all other health care personnel that have been
or are presently working with the elderly.
We help participants lose their apprehension towards the elderly, the most underserved of any age group, so they can confidently solicit clients. Immediately following the workshop, one can begin to include the elderly among clientele. This greatly enhances earning potential. It is a fallacy to believe that work with the elderly has to be pro bono. The majority of the elderly are quite well off, willing and able to pay for services directed towards health improvement.

The DAYBREAK Geriatric Massage Workshop differs from most other massage workshops because it is not teaching only a particular technique, but how to combine what the participant knows already with a number of new hands-on and conceptual approaches, and then to apply them to the specific needs of the elderly client.
The fee for the course is $300.00 payable by check or cash to Therapeutic Touch Services,       12018 Scribe Dr., Austin, TX 78759 by 2/1/06. Light refreshments will be provided, with adequate breaks for mealtimes. Any inquiries may be forwarded to me at sullivan@..., or 512-589-5278.

Dear Fellow Massage Therapists,

I have been a RMT since 1991, and I am always trying to improve the comfort of my clients.  As you know, lying on the stomach can sometimes be uncomfortable, and to allieviate this problem, I have just recently invented and patented a new product.

This light-weight oval shaped pillow encircles the chest/breast, thereby taking the pressure off that area, and the client feels much more comfortable and relaxed.  It is called:  My Bosom Buddee (TM).

This is brand new, and I plan to open a website in the near future.  You are the first Massage Therapists I have contacted.  I want to get it started, and I am hoping you will want to be the first to have one.  I promise you- - -you will not be sorry!  Some of my male clients are even using it.

I am attaching a picture of My Bosom Buddee.  It is made of polyester & cotton; it is non-allergenic and washable; and it will adjust to size small, medium or large.  At present, I have pastel colors in pink, blue, ivory, green, yellow and tan.  The price, at this time, is $15 + $5 for postage and handling.

If you are interested in my new product and think it will help your clients (as it does mine), please feel free to email me if you have any questions.  If you would like to purchase one, please send your payment to:

Hello South Texas RMTs

All my family is originally from "the valley".  I would love to teach my CEU classes in the Harlingen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi or S. Padre area.

I am going to be teaching at El Paso Community College.  Does anyone know if there is a community college teaching massage therapy in the areas mentioned above that might want to host some CEU classes?

I'm a certified Myopractic Deep Muscle Therapy instructor (six courses covering protocols for various regions of the body).  All my courses are Category A, good towards National Certification and meet your Texas CEU requirements.

Any leads in this direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

This is a Professional Discussion Group, not a bulletin/message board, service locator, or marketing vehicle. You can view our discussions without membership, but you must join the group to participate - to post messages, files, or links. If you apply for membership, your request must include your full name and license number, or your specific reason for interest as a massage industry member. THIS IS NOT A SITE FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC OR THOSE LOOKING FOR SERVICES. Your membership information is exclusive to the Moderator unless you choose to disclose it through posting to the group. Lurkers are welcome, which is why you can view the discussions without membership, but you will not receive member emails, digests, or notifications of activity.

This list is a safe forum for licensed professionals (therapists and instructors) and enrolled massage students to discuss issues surrounding massage - especially the BUSINESS AND POLITICS of massage - our main focus! We are focused on the professional, ethical, and successful practice of massage therapy, regardless of the techniques or modalities you use. We are also very interested in and involved with educational quality for both basic training and continuing education. You could say that this site is more about Massage THERAPISTS than about Massage THERAPY.

Many of our discussions in this forum will be about the Laws and Administrative Rules for massage and how to make them work for the profession...how they can protect and enhance our professional lives while also protecting the public. Participating here is one way to be heard and build concensus.

We welcome discussion of professional practice issues, including technique questions, but this site will not discuss erotic/sexual massage and does not tolerate spam, overt sales, MLM's, trolls, or flamers (folks trying to annoy, shock, or insult others). Please communicate in a friendly manner on relevant subjects.

Thank You.

Interested in a Medical Massage Training?  If you have a heart for arresting and reversing the progression of some devastating diseases and conditions, this therapy is for you.

WHAT IS PFRIMMER DEEP MUSCLE THERAPY®?

Over the past 50 years, Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy® has served as a most comprehensive form of corrective bodywork.  Pfrimmer is unique in its ability to perform cellular detoxification, cellular regeneration and comprehensive intricate tissue release.

Pfrimmer’s total body approach to the study of corrective muscle therapy provides a basic and solid foundation upon which to build customized treatment plans for clientele covering the broadest range of conditions.  (See the April 1998 issue of Massage Magazine)  In our observation over the years it has been noted that the results of MFR, NMT, PRT, and chiropractic have been greatly enhanced by incorporating these excellent techniques into the total body Pfrimmer format. Comprehension, versatility, confidence and creativity for the student are enhanced when they understand the holistic, total body approach to the corrective bodywork concept (Also, see the book “Healing Your Child” by Dr. Barry Gillespie.)

The Pfrimmer program has been offered successfully as a post graduate course for doctors, PT’s, chiropractors, and eligible massage therapists for many years. It is definitely the serious student of massage who is drawn to the Pfrimmer work. So it is our hope that providing the Pfrimmer education program in more schools around the country and around the world will enhance both the individual professional and the health of the public receiving the benefit of this unique treatment.  It has been our goal to make the education more readily accessible to the students and clients in their own locale.

Pfrimmer Therapy, which was developed by Thérèse C. Pfrimmer, a physiotherapist who reversed her own paralysis in the 1940’s, is well known in the Northeastern United States and Canada, but is new to Texas.

LEVEL 1 is an advanced intensive which will provide the foundation for understanding and correcting muscle/soft tissue aberrations through palpation, conceptual theory, and specific, detailed, corrective cross fiber strokes for the whole body. The course covers theory, technique, practice, pathology, history, professionalism, contraindications, small business practices and ethics. (See individual class descriptions below)  Lecture, audiovisual aids, student notebook, charts and critical thinking discussions are utilized. Close individual guidance accompanies the 80-hour hands-on workshop. The certification program provides a full scope of learning to perform basic and advanced Pfrimmer corrective work.

Prerequisite: Must be a Registered Massage Therapist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, R.N., M.D., or other medical professional.

Completion of the course qualifies graduates for NCTMB continuing education credits.  Austin Community College (ACC) will provide CE credit certificates following each 20-hour segment that satisfies TX Department of State Health Services CE requirements.

What Doctors say about Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy:

Eugene B. Spitz, M.D., world renowned neurosurgeon, inventor of the shunt for hydrocephalics - "Over the years we have referred a large number of children with organic neuromuscular problems for the Pfrimmer technique of deep muscle therapy and have found it to be of significant value frequently as an adjunct to the sensorimotor stimulation program."

John Unruh, PHD; Clinical Director, Center for Neurological Rehabilitation "We have developed into one of the largest centers for outpatient treatment of brain injury in the world with offices in nine countries. We maintain an extremely sophisticated diagnostic and research facility which keeps us on top of various new methods, programs and techniques which can be of some possible benefit to our patients. Our research has shown the Pfrimmer method of deep muscle therapy to be of significant value to a number of our patients, and we have been increasingly inclined to refer patients to Pfrimmer therapists throughout the world."

Carl Weisse, DC; Instructor, PA College of Straight Chiropractic and Community College of Philadelphia - "Doctors who are familiar with the value of massage view Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapists as 'specialists' in the field of muscle therapy."

Patricia Yeoman, M.D., Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh "I have seen many patients benefited by Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy® while I was serving as staff physician at the Deep Muscle Therapy Center in suburban Philadelphia. I have also received help personally for my own condition of inflammatory and painful soft tissue. There is great value to the medical community to include this work in the treatment plan for many serious conditions."

Barry Gillespie, DMD, MSD, TMJ Specialist - "Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy® is an invaluable adjuct to my work with TMJ patients. Basically the jaw, head and neck are coordinated through the myofascial tissues. Soft tissue balance and release has to be complete for maximum TMJ benefit."

Seldon Nelson, Pharm D.; D.O.; Instuctor, Michigan State University, College of Osteopathic Medicine - "There is a definite area of medical neglect today involving soft tissue therapy. Muscle therapists generally do much to fill this present need. I have been particularly impressed with the Pfrimmer therapists I have observed."

We Need To Build 50 Free Websites To Showcase Our Web Design Skills!
Massage Classifieds has been helping LMTs to grow their practices since 2002. Our newest service is to provide therapists with custom web design services at affordable prices. In order to demonstrate how good of job we can do we will build free websites for the first 50 LMTs that respond to this ad - either by phone or email. The process is simple; all you need to do is call our custom design center and supply them with the text and images you want on your website. They will also help you pick an available domain name such as www.kathyhillmassage.com and register it with you. Within 72 hours your own website will be up and running for FREE! Get your free website now!

Why it is important to own your own website?
While advertising in our online directory is an important way to find new clients – and it works great – in the long run you should also own your very own domain. Do not let someone else register your domain for you or have ownership of your website as overtime this will become a valuable part of your massage practice. Many people will build you a website but at the end of the day they control it and own it, especially if it is a part of their website (i.e. in our case www.massageclassifieds.com/yourname.com). When you have Massage Classifieds design your own website you will own the domain name (i.e. www.yourname.com), it will be registered to you, and you will have complete control over how it looks and any changes made.

What are the benefits of owning my own website?
Massage therapist oftentimes want to list a website on their cards or other advertising material to further provide details about their practice. A website will allow you to provide potential clients with needed information 24 hours a day. Clients can learn about your hours, services, facilities, and even see photographs and read past client testimonials. It is also easy to update your website – in fact we do it for free even for our starter websites.

Massage therapist also need to build a presence on the Internet so that if people search for a particular term (i.e. Dallas massage on Google) your practice gets listed in the search results. This equates to free advertising but it does not happen overnight. If you have not started your website then the search engines have not even indexed your site. Since this can take several months to a year you need to get your website up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime a listing in our directory will drive traffic to your site!

Hi

I'm starting another group of folks on my discounted structural integration project.  I have room for a few more to participate.

This Myopractic Structural Integration ten-session series is based on the work developed by Ida P. Rolf.  It has been further refined and enhanced by my instructor, Robert Pettaway.

This is part of a teaching certification process for me, so I currently offer the ten-session series on a sliding scale of between $35 and $45 per session.

If you are interested in having this work done or know of someone who might benefit from the structural integration series contact me:

Islam, Kurds, Human rights, Respect, Money, Donations, Angelina Jolie,
Pavarotti, Giorgio Armani, Donors, Peace, History, Campaigns and about you if
you care about these words.

Hi there,

I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.

This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can
see here:
http://www.freespaces.com/unhcr4

Where you can read the rest of this message as web page.

For more info about UNHCR and life of refugees you can read my free ebooks. I
invite you as fellow humans and members of the world community to support my
campaign by reading my article on my site and see the human-buttons. The
campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:

The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html

I thought this product looked interesting and wanted to help JoAnn spread the word.  For years I've been using a small travel pillow under each shoulder, which sometimes necessitates a pillow under the hips.  I checked with JoAnn and, depending on breast/chest size, the pillow is long enough to put the ends under the ASIS, so you might not need an extra hip pillow.  I believe she said stretched out the pillow is 24" long.  I'm going to go ahead and order one, so I'll let you know!

For those that don't get attachments through the group, I'm going to upload the photo to the Central Texas Massage Group only.  If you are not a member of that group and wish to have a photo, write to me off-group and I will forward it to you.

Dear Fellow Massage Therapists,

I have been a RMT since 1991, and I am always trying to improve the comfort of my clients.  As you know, laying on the stomach can sometimes be uncomfortable, and to allieviate this problem, I have just recently invented and patented a new product.

My new item takes the pressure off the chest area, and the client feels much more comfortable and relaxed.  It is called:  My Bosom Buddee (TM).

This is brand new, and I plan to open a website and sell on eBay in the near future.  You are the first Massage Therapists I have contacted.  I want to get it started, and you will be the first to have it.  I promise you- - - -you will not be sorry!  Some of my male clients are even using it.

I am attaching a picture of My Bosom Buddee.  It is made of polyester & cotton; it is washable; it will fit into a regular size pillowcase; and it will adjust to size small, medium or large.  At present, I have pastel colors in pink, blue, ivory, green, yellow and tan.  The price is $20 + $5 for postage & handling.

If you are interested in my new product and think it will help your clients (as it does mine), please feel free to email me if you have any questions.  If you would like to purchase one, please send your payment to:

Hi all,

Yesterday's Myopractic workshop at Austin Healing was very successful.  It was my first time conducting a workshop at that location.  Austin Healing is a very peaceful, nurturing place to learn and have fun in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hope you can join us next time:

Sunday - August 7, 2005
10 am to 5 pm
Myopractic Whiplash workshop
Austin Healing
610 Cardinal Lane

Cost: $120 (includes workbook)

To register contact:

Bob Leal, RMT, MTI
Certified Myopractic Instructor
512-565*8473

This workshop focuses on the muscles of the neck and face.  In a whiplash injury the muscles in the neck and head can knot, sprain, and tear. Releasing all the muscles in these areas, especially the small, fragile muscles, promotes circulation and allows the client to regain pain-free  movement.

The techniques learned in this workshop can also be used to treat TMJ and migraine headaches.

WHAT IS PFRIMMER DEEP MUSCLE THERAPY® (PDMT)?

Pfrimmer Therapy was developed by Thérèse C. Pfrimmer, a physiotherapist who reversed her own paralysis in the 1940’s.  Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy (PDMT) is a highly refined system of corrective treatment designed to aid in the restoration of damaged muscles and soft tissue in the entire body. Using a specific series of cross-tissue movements applied to muscles, a fully trained PDM Therapist concentrates on all layers of muscle that have become depleted of their normal blood and lymphatic flow.  It has been proven valuable in prevention as well as correction of many serious conditions. To name a few: ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Lupus, TMJ Syndrome, Strokes, Scoliosis, Multiple Sclerosis and Fibromyalgia.

More information may be obtained through the Pfrimmer Institute web site: www.piforcmt.com or the International Association of Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapists: www.pfrimmer.com

Pfrimmer Therapists will be needed for a National Institute of Health (NIH) Research Project in Texas!    Completion of the course qualifies graduates for NCTMB continuing education credits.  Class size is limited and classes must be taken in sequence.  Traveling from the other end of the State?  Let us know...we may be able to help you find accommodations with local Pfrimmer Therapists.  There are currently 28 Pfrimmer Therapists in Texas, and we need more!

Level 1 is an advanced intensive course comprised of four 20-hour weekend segments, which will provide the foundation for understanding and correcting muscle/soft tissue aberrations through palpation, conceptual theory, and specific, detailed, corrective cross fiber strokes for the whole body. The course covers theory, technique, practice, pathology, history, professionalism, contraindications, small business practices and ethics (See individual class descriptions below).  Lecture, audiovisual aids, student notebook, charts and critical thinking discussions are utilized. Close individual guidance accompanies the 80-hour hands-on workshop. The certification program provides a full scope of learning to perform basic and advanced Pfrimmer corrective work.   Prerequisite:  You must be a Registered Massage Therapist, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, R.N., M.D., or other medical professional.
