Being prepared and knowing what to say when the opportunity arises is
very important. Ask the person you want to talk to questions about
themselves, people love to talk about themselves. Also, remember to
phrase everything pleasantly, no one likes a curmudgeon. Practice
saying everything in a pleasant, positive manner. Try to never
say "no", "don't" , "stop" or other negative words. Also keep all
negative comments unsaid, I had a major problem with this myself so I
know whereof I speak. Keep initial interactions short and concise,
and don't try to rush connections. Connections take time to develop,
it won't happen instantaneously.
