Hi Ashley,
If you go to the "self-help" section of your bookstore, there will be many
good books. I have "Conquering Shyness" by Jonathan Cheek. There is also a
work book that goes with it. I also have one by Bernardo Barducci about
helping shy children. I've read quite a few others, and most share a common
strategy, cognitive therapy, which is basically setting short term
behavioral goals. There are also some that focus on relaxation strategies.
As for the speeches, I was ready to drop out of college over that, and I
went to a psychiatrist who gave me a prescription for those events. It
worked! As long as speeches are infrequent and predictable (scheduled), it's
a life-saver, literally.
Good luck!
Lisa

Hi everyone. I joined this forum to help overcome my shyness. I've
been shy for as long as I can remember and it has always been a
problem. I can't give speeches and I have trouble meeting new people
and socializing. It has recently become a very big problem. I'm a
photography student and I feel like my shyness is holding me back from
producing great images. If anyone has advice or knows a good book I
could read, that would be fantastic.
