Hi Everybody,
I'm new in this group. I'm 46 and I'm having similar problems as Tony or djoray or maybe many of you, so I would be happy to share some of my experiences with you. I think that many people mix up shyness with SAD ( Social Anxiety Disorder) which is a disease. The shyness is a gift as any other feelings (happiness, sadness, love) if it is normal, I mean if it is easy to overcome it, but people with SAD as me just need a good therapy.
For many years I was looking for answers to my questions: what's wrong with me, why I am so different, why I'm so extremely shy, why I'm always alone, how I can change that ? I was getting always the same killing answer: "You just a little bit more shy then others, that's ok".
No, no, no, that's not OK !Finally a few years ago I've find out what's wrong with me at the website:
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/examples.html
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.com/socialanxiety.htmlIt was a huge relieve for me to know what's wrong with me and that it is fully treatable. I started to read more and more materials about the treatment, about that CBT therapy. I found out that that treatment required everyday work, step by step overcoming my fears, my habits, making a lots of notes about my thoughts etc. etc., so I just gave up. It was a big mistake. A few weeks ago I've come back to that treatment. It is not so hard as I had expected before. It is slow process, but I'm already feeling a difference and I believe that it really helps me to overcome or at least to fully control my "shyness". I think that the above information could also help… you. Good luck.
