Below please see a link and announcement about “Reducing Infant Mortality”,
an upcoming film about how our health care system is failing babies and mothers.
The film will be out July 26th. It will be 10-12 minutes long, and is made for
everyone one who wants to, to send to their representatives and senators. Debby
Takikawa, one of the film’s producers says that “the idea is that if people
send the link to the film and the politicians receive many of them along with
our personal messages about what kind of Health Care Reforms we want to see, we
can help move toward a more humane way of bringing our babies into the world --
creating a model that includes an emphasis on skin to skin contact, bonding and
breast feeding -- a model that supports the family and family connections.”
They are asking for donations"of any amount"even $5.00 to offset production
costs. See more by clicking the link below. Please pass this along…

Dear Barbara,
I just posted the trailer to Reducing Infant Mortality, a FREE film we are
making about how our health care system is failing babies and mothers and what
we can do about it. The film will be out July 26th. It will be 10-12 minutes
long, and is made for everyone one who wants to, to send to their
representatives and senators. Our idea is that if people send the link to the
film and the politicians receive many of them along with our personal messages
about what kind of Health Care Reforms we want to see, we can help move toward a
more humane way of bringing our babies into the world -- creating a model that
includes an emphasis on skin to skin contact, bonding and breast feeding -- a
model that supports the family and family connections.
The film is a carefully crafted proposal for a shift in the way we approach
maternal infant medical care. Included in our proposal is the economic
component, as well as the unnecessary cost of life and health. We go on to
explain how the inclusion of midwives in the model makes sense on every level.
It is all voiced by MDs with substantial degrees and positions, no one on the
fringe, all with impeccable credentials. I believe that it helps our case to
hear the words coming from people who are currently considered by the mainstream
to be the experts on birth. It is, after all, the mainstream that we wish to
influence. I did everything I could to make it totally credible for the fight
that is happening in congress. All statistics have been researched. The March of
Dimes gave us permission to use their graphics.
I will let you know when the film is done.
In the meanwhile, since the film is free, we are fund raising to pay for the
cost of making it. The Santa Barbara Graduate Institute is our fiscal sponsor.
Tax deductible donations can be made by going to the donate button on the
website, http://www.facebook .com/l/;www. reducinginfantmo rtality.com. I have
400 friends on face book. If each person gave $20, we would be nearly half way
to the budget goal. If you each got one other person to do the same, the film
would be pretty much paid for. Please, if you like the film and can help, go to
the website and do what you can. Any amount, even $5.00 is appreciated.
If you are interested in spreading the word, let your friends know about the
film. When it is time to send the film to our senators and representatives, I
envision 1000s of emails, along with your heartfelt letters, to politicians in
every state. We will be making DVDs as well, and I see them piling up on the
desks of the people who are deciding how we are going to be birthing our babies,
demanding their attention!
With much love, and gratitude
Debby
