If there's one thing that Reiki has helped me realise it's that 'There
Are No Rules'. For example, when we're open to it, life can provide us
with all sorts of wonderful, if surprising, things. Attunements by
video (or distance attunements) are thus certainly possible. However,
we probably need to bear in mind that Reiki isn't a subject to be
taught and learnt like English or History. It's not (just) a set of
hand positions to be followed or a practice to be carried our
religiously. Taking up Reiki, at least in my experience, is about
opening ourselves to a whole new way of thinking and behaving. There
are thus dangers with pursuing it from a video.

In particular, there's no opportunity for feedback and discussion. As
a teaching master I feel my role is to help my students apply reiki in
their lives and to answer their specific and personal questions about
it: you're not going to get that from a video!

Maybe that's where Reiki groups like this come in? Possibly, but is it
a real substitute for a face-to-face, one-to-one Master-Student
relationship such as Usui probably had with his students?
