FREE ANTENATAL OSTEOPATHY DURING SEPT 09
To coincide with Tommy’s Charity’s ‘Let’s Talk Baby’ month, The Osteopathic Practice in Broomhill is offering a free initial antenatal consultation and treatment throughout September*. This consultation will seek to identify and treat some of the common problems associated with pregnancy, including back ache and pain in the pelvic, rib and chest regions.
Claire Pryce from Tommy’s says "During Tommy’s Let’s Talk Baby Month (formerly known as Pregnancy Health Month) we hope to empower pregnant women by bringing the realities of pregnancy into the open, and making impartial, expert pregnancy health information available to all. We are pleased The Osteopathic Practice in Sheffield is supporting Tommy’s throughout Let’s Talk Baby Month. Being pregnant is one of the biggest changes the body goes through, bringing with it a wealth of new and sometimes unexpected experiences".
Osteopathy can help to provide relief from numerous pregnancy related aches and pains, as well as more specific conditions such as
Pelvic Girdle pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. It can also prove effective in offering relief from pregnancy related issues such as heartburn, breathing difficulties, swollen ankles and varicose veins.Even for those enjoying a comfortable, straightforward pregnancy, an osteopathic treatment can assist preparation for labour by helping to ensure that the pelvis is working as effectively as possible.
The size of the pelvis increases by up to 30% during labour, but its expansion may be restricted if there are strains or tension in this area. By using very gentle techniques, the osteopath will be able to help release these strains, giving the best chance of an easy and uncomplicated labour.*Whilst appointments are free, The Osteopathic Practice is asking all mums-to-be to make a minimum donation of £10 at the time of their treatment; every penny of which will be passed on to Tommy’s charity.
