I think that some of you might be interested in this - 12lb baby born to
nondiabetic mother. It's one of Virginia Howes's clients (waves to
Virginia!). Virginia had a brief story about it on her website before, but
given the level of interest in the case, I asked Virginia if I could
interview her about it and discuss some of the issues. I think it now makes
a very interesting and detailed study of what was, as Virginia said, an
'unusual normal birth' , and of how a midwife can work to keep sight of the
normality in unusual cases. We've put it on a blog (
www.kentmidwiferypr
from other midwives, so watch this space.

The issues discussed include previous large babies, possible polyhydramnios,
PPH, postnatal transfer, hypoglycaemia of the newborn, midwifery
supervision, relationships with other health professionals and more. Phew!
Please feel free to forward this to any other midwifery/ homebirth forums
where it might be relevant.
Best wishes,
Angela Horn
